Today's Tids Issue 3,407
Opening Stuff:
The
best part of golf games for me lately are discoveries in
nature. For instance yesterday, I looked around as I stood in a quiet, leafy
woods only to see a chubby little woodchuck with puffy jowls and snug little
ears staring at me. He just stared at me and I back. He was but 6 feet away,
and I thought I saw a smile, as in I’m glad I’m not a human doing whatever you
are doing.” He looked pretty young to me, maybe not tainted by humans yet. The
best part was that it didn’t appear to be annoyed that I was in his front yard.
Unlike condo owners in Florida. I love golf, as long as there are scenes of
running streams, hillsides of lush maples, daisies and day lilies and Black-eyes
Susans blowing in the wind; ocean vistas or the sound of waves crashing…and the
occasional furry little friend. To remain sane on the course you have to be an
environmentalist.
The
smartest guy or gal on Wall Street may be at the mercy of
computer whims in the new stock market world. That doesn’t mean that the
smartest guy or gal on Clueless Lane can’t make tons of dough during a good
Helter-Skelter day.
While
the market is undergoing the dips and doodles of a
high flying kite contest, manic dives and soaring scrambles, I’m not getting the
feel of out and out panic. Just a computer gone mad. There seems to be a sense of
“This too will pass” out there. So I’m just going to write the Tids and talk to
a Woodchuck.
The
Question:
Ok, we know that Donald Trump is worth $2.9-$10
Billion. That puts him significantly ahead of all Repub and Dem candidates, although
a few are worth pretty good bucks. Name the rest in order after Trump.

The
Tids Book Idea Exchange, Department:
The Tids Librarian had a great first respose to te
call for book ideas. Unfortunately for woman, it was all men. So ladies, if you
want to know what others like, get out of your Kindle and start sending in
Books! – The first book in was Red notice by Bill Browder – “Fascinating true
story about finance, hedge funds, oligarchs and Putin.” – Next in was “Boys in
the Boat” by Daniel James Brown, which I hear mentioned in passing by a number
of people. It’s about nine Americans and there epic quest for gold in the 1936
Berlin Olympics. –The third man had lots
of ideas: One Million Steps by Bing West – An informed look at a Marine Platoon
at War; The Ghost Fleet by Peter Singer and August Cole– Fiction about the next
World War; This contributor also recommends any Spy Novel by Daniel Silva.
Elizabeth
Warren may not be running, but she will be moving a lot
of bodies around in the Dem party. She has quietly assumed a dominant position on
the big left side of DemocratVille.
Most
of the new stuff Operating Software “Bigs” like Microsoft
and Apple create means little to me. A lot of it is geared to music, games and
social media. All I want to do is type the Tids, and find stuff to write about.
One
of the things that’s beginning to annoy me is that after
showering and cleaning up the old bod, I feel so relaxed that that I nestled
into a soft chair with a bag of Cheese dust snacks. Within minutes I find myself
gritty and slightly orange. I’ve got a decision to make – give up Cheeto’s…or showers.
Hmmmm.
There
is an undercurrent of talk that is steaming quickly in to Bernoulli
land – Obama and WH operatives forced out Jay Leno as his rating surged atop
some pretty good Obama critical jokes. “I wanted to start off tonight with an
Obama joke, but I didn’t want to get audited by the IRS.” Or on the new IRS
commish – “He’s called acting commissioner because he has to act like the
scandal doesn’t include the White House.” Or, “The White House has a nw slogan
for Benghazi: Hope and Change the subject.”
US
Is not the only country with an uncontrolled immigration
problem. The violent presence of ISIS and other terror groups has people in Northern
Africa and Central Asia running for safe havens and Europe is the primary
target.
More
and more restaurants from the local diner to the most
expensive price fixe joint are declaring the ”Best Burger in Town”.
Watch
out. 0-man Is coming back from vacation and in addition to
ISIS, he has avowed to focus on alternative energy. This means he’s going to
drum up taxpayer dollars for subsidies to support energy sources that are
economically unviable. I wonder if he has talked to his Coal Czar friend,
Goerge Soros.
By
the way. Soros now is a major owner of Peabody Energy
and Arch coal. But US environmentalists need not worry becaue he is still for alternative
clean energy sources for the USA (Depending on which of those companies he
owns). Nope, he will be selling coal to China! Yeah, that makes sense.
Actually, they say that 4,000 Chinese each day die from bad air. So benevolent
George is just helping with population control. The Libs have big hearts.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 11.
Nancy Joachim
had spent the day disguising all possible entry points to her safe haven island
so they would not be visible for the mainland or even passing boats. She also
created a forbidding shore line that would be uninviting to the hoards of
kayakers swarming on the lake on any given day. She was resting, sipping on a
cold beer, which she always enjoyed any time, but especially now as tension was
gripping her body and mind. Relaxation, she thought. Relaxation keeps her mind
sharp. Her cell phone rang, sounding like an air raid siren bursting into her quiet
revery,
She was
immediately alert, spilling some beer as she moved quickly to stop the ringing.
“Hello?”
“It’s me,
Nancy. Beth. Are you Ok?” There was a pause as Nancy’s friend from the coffee shop
seemed unsure of what to say next. Then she blurted in a breathless stream, “I
mean, two guys were here yesterday and they threatened my kids, and I had to
tell them where you lived. I’m sorry Nan, I hope I didn’t ruin anything. Are
you alright?” she repeated.
Nancy held
the phone and looked at it as if it was going answer for her. This mess I
created is becoming very serious, she thought. “Did they hurt you, Beth?” But
she didn’t wait for an answer. “Had you ever seen these guys before?” Nancy was
sure she hadn’t because she thought they looked like anything but locals of
even close to being local.”
“No. All
I can say is that they looked mean, and intent. And then that guy came in…”
“What
guy?”
“Some
old guy from Newport. He is actually turning out to be pretty nice. He seems
worried about you. Hes been there before, but I never told him, nobody about
you. Until yesterday.” Nancy looked off and saw the image of the old guy
getting battered in the parking lot. She felt a funny pang in her chest. “He’s
really seems to want to help. Help with what? What are you into Nancy? Did
anything happen? What’s going on?” Beth was asking all of the questions that
she has been pouring over for the last several days.
The
Answer:
After Donald we have Carley at $59 Mil and the Jeb
at $19-22 Mil. Number 4 is the Hill, the broke girl who somehow in public
service has amassed $15.5 to $55M. Then we have John Kasich at $9-$22 mil, Ben Carson
$8-$19.6, Huck $7-$23, Cruz $1.7-$4.5,
Rand Paul $683K to $2M, Socialist Bernie sanders $110K-$550, Marco $57K
to $829 and Scott Walker at a max of $243 with lots of credit card debt.
You
may find gap in the Tids Stream this week. We’ll
see. In the meantime, smile at a wayward soul and buoy their spirits whenever
you can. Or, a woodchuck.
