Today's Tids Issue 3,534
Opening Stuff:
Around
here, Pot Hole seasons just seem to run together.
The
Pope implies that Donald Trump can’t be a
Christian. Or is it that Donald Trump
infers that the Pope says he isn’t a Christian? Either way, I think that‘s a
little over the top to call people non-Christian for trying to work out a way
to control chaos and punish basic theft. No, that’s a lot over the top. But
then, it is a little over the top to hear DT say that if the Pope is mean to him
he will sic ISIS on the Vatican. Has the world ever been crazier?
This
is a good time of the year when cool rumors start leaking
out of Spring Training camps. It helps offset the irritation from the other big
game going on.
President
Obama is easily the most partisan president I have
seen in my life time. His refusal too attend Scalia’s funeral is just the latest thoughtless incident that proves his “my
way or the highway” inclinations. Or is that “My America or no America.”
Quote
of the Day, Department:
Fed Master: “Economy will work through market
turmoil.” If you believe in the wisdom of The Fed, it is a good quote. If you think
the Fed hasn’t a clue, not so much.
The
Question:
Everybody basically likes to be safe. So, which 10
cities considered most dangerous in the USA would be off your retirement or job
hunt list? Bonus: The great Bee-Gee’s
song “To love somebody” was originally written for another great singer who died
before he could sing it. Who was he? Double
Bonus: What President authorized “Operation Wetback” that would result in returning
an estimated 1.3 to 2.3 million Illegal entry Mexicans back to Mexico.

A
good reader wrote remind us that though not well
known, Mark Twain had a brother named Choo-Choo. I think you can put the rest
of it together, but will probably wish your didn’t.
College
Hockey doesn’t get a lot of ink, but tonight and tomorrow
night in Providence there is great two game series on tap with last years NCAA
champ Providence College facing off against #1 in Hockey East Notre Dame. Let’s
hope the students decide to “sit-in” in the arena for diversity sake..
As
bad as American Idol was on Wednesday.
Last night’s duets featuring past AI contestants like Daughtry and Lelley Pickler
contributed to an entertaining evening that was pretty outstanding. It was an
amazing two hours of good singing. Of course for me, it ended on a downer when
one of my faves, fiddle playing, energetic Amelia Eisenhauer got the ax. In
fact they may have done themselves a disservice by eliminating several good
country singers like the powerful Shelbie Z.
If
US Planes attack one of the Chinese islands it would be an
Ait Attack.
Sometimes
my typos pay off with the result being bad humor.
The
latest fall-out from Hillary’s “Systemic Racism” pandering
to NAACP speech comes in the form of a lawsuit requesting that the noble Ivy
League school change its name from “Brown” to “White”.
FaceBook
pretty much dominates the world as the leading
Social network except in behemoth countries India, which has QZone, and Russia,
where V Kontakte spreads across the vast country. In Iran it is Facenama and in
Japan it is Twitter. Greenland and majorit part of Central of Africa have none.
Is this systemic world racism? Once again the Tids leads the way in bringing
you information you will never use.
The
Pope is a pretty good guy. Unfortunately he says some stuff
that is just counter to basic information. One such unfortunate observation of
his was in his denunciation of Free market economies. It is pretty well
accepted by people with brains that capitalist, free market societies have raised
more people out of poverty than any system that has ever gone before, and especially
more than the many failed socialist, government dominated economies like Argentina
of which he is most familiar. Granted it is easy to pick off often overpaid
executives, but the consistent results of their efforts have been better for societies
overall.
I
love it when the Gold market is in decline.
A
bulletin just popped up saying the Coast Guard is
looking for a missing swimmer off Narragansett. Swimmer? The water is about 32
degrees. Common sense loses again.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 47 continues…
As Nancy bent
to get into the car, her eye caught the movement of a man folding a newspaper quickly
and standing abruptly. She thought he looked at her a little too long. “Sit
here a minute,” she said to Jared who had already started to put the shift into
drive. He paused and backed it up into neutral.
“What
now?”
“It may
be nothing.” She moved over and kissed him hard on the lips.
His arms
went around her, and he broke the kiss. “Wow,” he shouted through a broad
smile. “Don’t you think it is a little too public hear?” His fingers massaged
her back.
“Don’t
get your hopes up, I’m using you!” She peered over his shoulder and noticed the
man in the long black over coat standing, half looking at their car, while signaling
another car to pull over near him.
“I hate
being used” He feigned sulking. He reached to hold her hand as she backed off
and down to her seat again.
“You’re
not bad for an inanimate object and I kind of liked it,” she said now with a
more huskier voice. But this is not a good time at all. “Start driving slowly.”
She bent down to put her valuable envelope of papers under the front seat. Now
she was nervous. She had thought that she was in the clear and could become the
hunter.
Reading
Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Some observers would like to have seen Race as a
prequel to Selma, but it misses the mark a bit on the controversy side. Other
people, who just like good competitive sports will see it a pretty good tale about
the world’s fastest human, and genuine American super hero, winning gold medal after
gold medal, and figuratively giving Aryan supremist Hitler the finger. It is
probably worth seeing.
--Risen is also getting lots of attention, and
will probably be liked by people with faith, and may even move people without the
soul of life. It is an interesting idea where a Roman soldier played
excellently by Joseph Fiennes is ordered by Roman leaders to investigate the
disappearance of Jesus’s body after the Resurrection and to be sure to prove it
was just stolen by believers,. But, along the way this non-believer learns something
a bit more powerful and sees and absorbs the bright light. I think it will be good.
--Of course, the Witch will draw the big
audiences, but they may not like this eerie tale of colonial America. A family
moves to a piece of land beside an ominous forest and really bad things begin to
happen. This is actually a rather well
made and well acted horror film, and the fear it exudes is gripping.
The
Answer:
Birmingham Alabama is considered 10th most
dangerous. On the way to #1 we find at nine Milwaukee, then Rockford Ill, Baltimore, Little Rock,
Cleveland (Repub Convention site), St. Louis, Memphis, Oakland and #1 ---
Detroit City. Bonus: Otis Redding
was to love somebody at the dock of the bay, but never got there. The BeeGees
got the rights to the song and the rest is history. Double Bonus: Dwight D. Eisenhower was deeply concerned that illegal
entrants were forcing down US worker wages and contributing to governmental corruption,
so he developed a program to round up and force or deport Mexicans back home.
Love
and romance are much more than a dinner on Valentine’s day. The
feeling of love should be with us, and cherished each day. So let’s keep our
hearts pumping with this tune that could easily have been one of the best in
the V-Day countdown series. https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-006&ei=utf-8&fr=ytff1-tyc&p=you%20tube%20to%20love%20somebody&type=
