Today's Tids Issue 3,535
Opening Stuff:
Happy
Birthday George Washington. You’ve always been one of my
favorites, and I love your house.
The
way I see it, most people spend most of their day
looking after their own lives and contributing to the lives of others, family
and friends. Homeless people look for shelter and food and little kindness
along the way. The poor strive to gain income; the super rich wrestle with the distribution
and maintenance of their funds; these at the opposite ends of the economic
spectrum also like everybody else, love and worry about the growth and comfort
of their family and look for the companionship, comfort of friends. The overwhelming
majority of all people at all levels do not spend endless hours involved listening
to the cacophony of the egos seeking political fortune. There is just too much
important stuff to do, like loving and listening and understanding; striving and
working; existing.
It
smells like Spring to me. What a mild winter this has
been. Of course, I’m a little bummed as I will have to put away my plaid
flannel shirts a little earlier than usual. Life is tough.
I
see where the Vatican has issued a no-nonsense
message saying emphatically that the Pope in no way wants to interfere or favor one candidate over another in the US
political system. That’s the way it should be. Except, I hear from a good church-goer
that a priest speaking briefly Friday in his morning mass sermon on the
Trump/Francis affair, ended his words about kindness and giving with a stiff
rebuke and accusation of Republicans. Let’s hope the DNC isn’t buying off the
pulpit.
Dog
horror movie: “Night of the living vacuum cleaner” –
Thanks to McPhearson.
It
seems to me that the concept of Super-delegates
as employed by the DNC essentially takes away the nomination process from the
people. Fat cats are alive and well in the Democrat party too.
The
Question:
Who was the Sistine Chapel named after? What is
painted on the side walls of the chapel and which four artists painted it? What
scenes did Michelangelo paint on the ceiling? Bonus: On Friday I finished this mess with the old Bee-Gee’s song,
“To Love Somebody”. There is another well known song with a tile that
rearranges those same words. Who sang it?

Crime
in America, department:
People are routinely imprisoned for counterfeiting,
issuing false documents, or heavily fined for serious misinformation practices
like lying in advertising. Yet the Photoshop crazed politicians and their
amoral henchmen/women in the trenches routinely broadcast false information and
doctored negative pictures of opponents. And, it is likely that one of these
alleged felons will be elected President of the USA. And…that‘s just what they
do to get into office.
Not
only was SCJ Scalia a good and incredibly intelligent guy,
his absence could have a profound, negative influence on America. If you
remember back, it was the appointment of judges like Scalia that were so dearly
necessary to offset a runaway, biased court of the 70’s. God help us.
There
is kindness and feeling and then there is giving stuff
away to those who have buried their talents. The greatest act of kindness is to
give a person self esteem. To establish a free flowing society and necessary
economic system that would allow everybody to grow and succeed. The greatest
gift is providing a universe rich in resources and people with minds who can
discover and implement for all. A globe that functions under ten basic laws of
pure common sense. Where people succeed or fail on their own merit. Where those
who fail learn from their failings.
Yesterday
I heard John Kerry announce a big step in the Syrian
truce discussions using no less that 12 adjectives to hedge his news.
I’m
giving a little talk on Libya this week and one
interesting thing I have found is that among the 140 tribes that comprise
almost all of the population, the concept of citizenship and being a Libyan has
never existed and still doesn’t. They see living honorably and economically within
their own units as much preferred over a big central government. I think there
is a good idea here somewhere. Rand Paul for President.
Isn’t
interesting how countries are known most by the tyrants
who gain power than by the goodness of the people who are the country.
Every
time I listen to Grieg’s Piano Concerto I see clearly the fiords
of Norway, the cold waters running though rocks in streams down mountainsides to
the sea. I see sailing ships with waves bursting over the bow and spray stinging
he faces of sailors. I see meadows and wildlife; radiant endless sun of the
north. And I don’t have to pay for an airfare and hotel to get it all.
Did
you know that before 6,000BC that the vast Sahara
region was lush greenery with roaring streams, expansive lakes with animals of
every type running and bluebirds singing. And then something happened – Climate
change! Must have been all of those pottery and spear tip factories in Carthage.
To
say that many in the media are aghast at the prospects of
Trump being president, is an understatement. (See above News item). The NY
Daily news wrote after SC: “Confederacy of Dunces –The piggish voters of South
Carolina gobbled up the slop that DT served up…handing bloodthirsty
billionaire…” Huff Post was even more aggrieved after NH: NH Goes Racist,
Sexist, Xenophobic.” Salon: Frankenstein created by a pathetic GOP (defined
once more sophomorically as ‘angry old white people who don’t understand the
new world they are rejecting.” The blind hatred for Repubs by the US media is
one reason they don’t see or even want to look at the sins of the Hill.
The
National review had it right saying, “…both Trump and
Sanders have risen from the wreckage of a broken culture.” A culture, by the
way, often shaped by the media.
The
Parking Lot. Chapter 47 continues…
For the
first time in a while during this caper Nancy was nervous. The end game was I sight
and she had he most prized possessions in her mars clutched to her chest.
“Drive slowly and I’ll keep an eye on the car that seems to want to follow us.”
Jared
heard something new in her voice, a rare insecurity that was more like that
night when he ran to her as she was about to be clobbered in the parking lot.
“Stay cool,” the emerging white night in shiny armor said. “Everything is under
control.”
Nancy’s
fear eased, knowing it was mainly there because of the value of what she held.
And maybe, just maybe, it’s because ole’s Jared is everything she thinks he is.
She sat back and chastised herself for not being more aggressive with those
Howland boys. She had been told over the years that bad things happen when
Hicks giving a helping hand to the Howlands.
Jared had
made a couple of trunks bringing the twosome west of Providence to Promenade
Street. We are in good shape here, “Jared said turning his head slightly
towards her. She caught his eyes, and he hers. It was one of those moments when
two become one.
She
watched the other car move silently behind, matching each of their turns. But,
she wasn’t worried at all.
The
Answer:
The Sistine Chapel was named after Pope Sixtus who
started the decorating project, but did not commission Michelangelo – that was
Pope Julius II. The scenes on the walls are the Life of Christ and the Life of
Moses painted by Domenica Ghirlandaio (This master’s most famous apprentice was
Mich himself), Sandro Botticellli, Pietro Perugino and Cosimo Roselli. The
scenes on the ceiling are nine pictures that depict The Creation of Man, God’s
Relationship with Mankind and Mankind’s Fall From Grace. He also painted twelve
biblical and classical men who predicated God would send Jesus Christ for the
Salvation of mankind. Around the upper parts of the windows are the Ancestors
of Christ. Bonus: The rearranged tune
is Somebody to Love, by Queen.
This
Just In: Hillary is demanding that the Pope repaint the
Sistine Chapel which she deems entirely too sexist. The NY Daily New Concurs,
saying that they will stop printing Mass Times for St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
I
don’t know whether I should go skiing or play golf. It’s
one of those kind of weeks.
Let’s
keep love alive:
