Today's Tids Issue 3,529
Opening Stuff:
Being
a contrarian at heart, I often shun the rush of crowds into
programmed hysteria like the senseless New Years Eve. But, something in my
heart always awakens at the thought of Valentine’s Day. Maybe it was that first
valentine of red construction paper and white doilies that thrilled. It is a
special day that only focuses pure delightful love. It is about goose bumps,
tingles and of course enduring devotion through thick and thin. It is romance
that produces poetry, music and tears of joy. It holds talkers speechless. I
stand upon a lonely hill, roaring ocean blasting mist upon my face. Flooding my
senses. Yet I am consumed most by knowing I have you. Love is overwhelming.
Often
it is the smallest of gestures that produces the
most exhilarating special feeling.
Banks
who we bailed out may be the institutions that bring us
down again. You don’t have to be Bernie Sanders to know that bailing out
reckless risk takers only perpetuates the problem.
The
Question:
As you may have noticed, The Tids has been running
a Countdown to Valentines Day since February 1, featuring a well known love
song to wind up each Tids. How many can you name?
The
Headlines:
--Euro And US Stocks Higher; Wall Street
Suggesting Now Is The Time To Buy; Forecasters Seeing Strong Market For Next 6
Months.
--Russia And US Diplomats Compromise To Get Syrian
Cease Fire In Favor Of Humanitarian Aid. ISIS Can’t Hear Them.
--British Authorities Bring Criminal Charges
Against Star Wars Producers In Harrison Ford Broken Leg Incident.
--Four Killed In Machete Rampage At Ohio
Restaurant.
--Militant Attack On UN Site In Mali Kills Three.
I
would have liked to have seen Emily Brook getting
another shot on American Idol. In case you missed it, she and Jordan Sasser,
Stephany Negrete, James III, and Jenna Renae were axed. I have noticed this
year that even with much better songsters than last year, AI has fallen way
behind The Voice in talent.
I
have a new idea for a Sitcom: “Two Bernies From
Brooklyn.” It would be about a couple of 74 year old contemporaries –Madoff and
Sanders -- laughing at the lives of each other as they meet for bagels every
Saturday morning.
I
think the Direct TV commercials about the “Settlers” are
very clever. But frankly, I see no problem with cable.
Overheard
From Some Wall Street observers commenting after Janet Yellen’s
visit before Congress yesterday: I think she is telling us that “She will let
us know what’s up when she figures out what’s up.” I think it has been proven
that the last three heads of the Fed aren’t as smart as their credentials.
I
get a distinct sense that none of the world’s
various and sundry groups defines as militants or terrorists have signed onto
the concept of the UN.
I
just read the Red Box national list of top 10 film rentals
and there is only one I would consider. It this because I am older and wiser or
because films just plain are awful.
I
see that Burger King is going into the flame broiled
Hot Dog market. Up here their dog will always be compared to locations all
around the state that produce exceptional superior wieners.
Speaking
of Hollywood, the powers that be should be falling
all over themselves for Donald Trump as he could be the first President who
liberally uses the “F” word in his inaugural speech. Maybe that’s Trump’s
strategy that belies the opinion of experts – he’s sewing up the Red Box rental
crowd.
Speaking
of unpredictability, how about the prospects for the NCAA
Final Four. There just is no team that could be considered a prohibitive
favorite or even a marginal favorite. For instance, the past two days have
reflected the entire season when in 6 of 7 games, unranked teams beat a ranked
team – some rather easily. It is looking like the proverbial chimp could pick
the winner this year.
In
case you missed it, the Hill-Bernie debate was pretty ordinary
as both went after the Black vote with some pretty outrageous claims. They both
focused on the high incarceration rate of blacks versus whites, forgetting that
that blacks are murdering each other at rate far higher than in any country in
the world. And then there is Bernie saying when he gets to DC he will release
500,000 prisoners. Nobody, not even democrat demagogues can figure out how he
can when there are only 200,000 Federal prisoners. Maybe he has a prisoner Ponzi
scheme in mind. Anyhow, both of them continue
rhetoric that is a disservice to the reality of the black community. Maybe they
should check in with Ben Carson first.
500,000
prisoners! Yikes!
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 46.
Jeremiah
was all smiles as he limped out of the hall, aided by his mother and father. He
looked around for Elizabeth, and finally spied her sitting on a small bench by
the rear exit.
He felt
her energy as he looked at her through his admiring heart. He thought she looked
more radiant than usual, face flushed eyes wide and positive. People filing out
also seemed to have felt her energy as they vigorously shook her hand, talking
and laughing. It was good scene at the end of a good night, he thought.
Finally, she looked up and saw him. Her smile broadened, and she immediately took
two broad steps over an wrapped him in her arms. He felt his arousal, stronger
than usual. She looked up and her eyes sparkled.
Richard
interrupted, ”Elizabeth, I didn’t see you for a while. We had a great evening.”
Elisabeth’ face was now stoic as her smile had turned to concern. He continued
to press her warmth into Jeremiah.
“It was
hot inside, and I knew you had taken control. It was a big success. I could
feel it Richard. The people are very happy with your plan, and that should
bring more pressure on the Howland’s to cooperate.”
Ah,
Howland, he’s a stubborn one.” Jeremiah’s eyes narrowed at the sound of
Howland’s name. Elizabeth grasped his ahdn as if to say, don’t worry my love.

Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--Deadpool is the Hyped film for the week and some
are calling it a sophomoric crass lowlife film, while others say it is fast,
funny and gleefully profane. It is the origin story of a jaded super hero named
Deadpool who after achieving his super talents goes after the guy who ruined
his life. It may become a series for Ryan Reynolds.
--Where To Invade Next is liked by the critics
because they like Moore’s anti American documentaries. In this one the robust
Moore visits many countries and determines they are ripe for being picked off
by the USA.
--In Grassland, a man who comes from poor side of
town in Dublin Ireland, eking out a life, comes home to find that mom, a severe
alcoholic, is in need of serious treatment. Having no insurance or money, he
opts to join up with a small time criminal to help mom. It’s more meaningful
than it sounds.
--Zoolander 2 loads up with star cameos and tries
to capture the laughs of the original about the fashion industry, and fails miserably.
--How to be single is a romantic comedy about a
woman tryingto find love in New York City which gets lost in interminable
conversation.
The Answer:
The first song was “That Lovin’ Feeling” by The
Righteous Brothers. It was followed by a perfect song for lovers “Somewhere”
(There’s a place for us). Next was a beautiful Irish song I like a lot, a duet
called “Hear Me” from Waking Ned Devine. I went classic pop with Elvis “Love me
Tender”. How tender is the love in Pucini’s Madam Butterfly as felt in the aria
“Un bel di”. Love is built upon aches and pains as well as elation, so the rocker
“Love Hurts” became the sixth song. Considered by many as the #1 all time love
song, Roberta Flack’s The First tie ever I saw your face” lifted you nto
dreamland. Next was a duet from Les Miz which I think is one of the most
emotional of all, The unrequited love of Eponine countered by song by Marius for
Cosette -- “In my Life”/”Heart full of Love”. Yesterday’s song “Smoke Gets in
Your Eyes” buy the platters was also one of the most played and sung songs in
the 1930;s and just happened to be the special favorite of my parents. How
important is that!
So
today I bring you a melody that to me has the culminating
emotion we feel when a lover walks into the room. It’s the Enigma Variation #9
by Edward Elgar. http://wn.com/variations_on_an_original_theme_%28%E2%80%98enigma%E2%80%99%29,_op._36_adagio_%28nimrod%29_royal_philharmonic_orchestra
