Today's Tids Issue 3,542
Opening Stuff:
I
watched Rubio and Cruz pretty intently last night.
Cruz gave a good stomp speech to adoring Texas supporters. He looked positive,
but not special. Rubio was interviewed personally on Fox. He is, quite honestly,
a humorless stiff. A guy of presidential stuff would have jousted with the
press, taken command regardless of the questions. A person who would be president
stands taller than the questioner, regardless of the intelligence of the inquisitor.
He moves them to his side, and they don’t know it. I had been mildly interested
in Marco, primarily because all of the pre-campaign analysis that said he was
strong contender. I don’t think so. You only know what you know. And now I know
what I know about him, and it isn’t so hot. And, it has absolutely nothing to
do with Trumps childish insults. The scripted man looks bad on his own.
So
what am I saying, I am in no man’s land when it comes to
this election, and I just don’t know how it can get better. It’s depressing not
to feel that enthusiasm in my belly I love so much. So I guess I’ll just tell jokes
today, cause I just don’t have a clue. But, I won’t use Marco’s or Donald’s scriptwriters.
Why
did the banana go to the hospital? Because it wasn’t
peeling well. Oh no, I’ve got to do better than that. I guess I am depressed.
The
problem with this election can be reflected by the
fact that the media likes the prospects of Clinton/Trump bringing entertainment
value for increased ratings. Good for revenue, unless, everybody except gimmie
society moves out of the country.
The
Question:
Double
“Q” Day: 1. John
Irving books were hot in the late 70’s and 1980’s. Name three of them. 2. Easter always brings back The Sound
of Music and the Trapp Family. Name 5 other well known singing families.

Narrow
Minds in dark offices, Department:
I’ll vote for anybody who has a plan to cut down
to rational size big government whether state or Federal. That is the biggest
problem we have, and every other little issue stems from too big and too out of
control. I was reminded yesterday of the central goverment cloud by the latest
assault of on freedom coming here in communist USSRI, where the state has voted
in a bill that would control what can drop from your trees and shrubs, and tells
you how you have to maintain them. I’m not making this up. In fact, the bill sponsor
says, “pine trees belong in the forest not in neighborhoods!” I’m a Cities and
Towns Rights guy just as I’m a States Rights person. This is a case of the higher
authority with a small mind having no business telling people what to do in their
neighborhoods based on what appears to be a petty feud with one State senator
in his own back yard. Towns are really different from each other and know the
needs of their people. The point is that these state people do what they want
and around here, for at least here, the old saw, “Well if you don’t like it you
can vote them Out,” doesn’t work a whit.
I’m
moving to Maine.
And,
what does Sound of Music have to do with Easter in the first
place?
I
heard that 20,000 Democrats in Massachusetts left the party
in the period before the primary. That is the Trump effect. My contention is,
that while running as Repub he is actually looking at every American as the
party he represents. He doesn’t espouse the Party line because he wants to
appear open for everybody. Broadening the party appeal has always been a
so-called objective of the “establishment”, but on their terms only.
Unfortunately, his bombast gets in the way of that door to the fertile land of the
New America. It’s unfortunate that he is an impediment to his own good idea, getting
rid of the cronyism and traditional interlocking immovable relationships – the new
sheriff in town beholding to no one. Hillary lumps people in piles with labels.
Donald wants just one big unified pile, and he doesn’t care what you call the
people in it.
“Did
you know that President Obama referred to Jesus
Christ in speeches more than President George
W. Bush? But neither of them uttered ‘Oh God, O God’ more than Bill Clinton.”
They
say Cruz is the smartest guy in the room, but
there are lots of smartest guys and gals in the room who are just plain intolerable.

Some wag said that liberals would elect Hillary even if she was a serial
killer. Many conservatives already think she is, publishing a list of the many
friends and associates of Clintons who have died often mysteriously while they
were in or running for office in Arkansas and DC.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 49.
Nancy waited for fifteen minutes. Then called
Jared.
“Hi Nance, the slow dance is still going on.
I’m up near Smithfield and will be soon turning down to the highway and make a dash
to my place in Newport. Hitch a ride with Uber to your Gold street place. I’m
now going to drive into a small bank up here.”
“Got it, boss.” Jared laughed out loud, and
the car swerved slightly to the right. “You are so sexy, when you’re strong.
But, don’t let it happen too often.” She paused. “Good plan though.” She could
tell he was still smiliing.
Nancy felt more comfortable than she had in
days. She decided it was time to move her plan forward, and that meant going to
Providence and the Attorney General’s office. There was nobody in her town she
could trust at this point. She could trust Fred but he was scared useless.
She scanned her phone for the AG office
phone number, and punched it. She loved this new technology just because of this
kind of ease of connection. A vacant voice answered.
“Attorney General Gerald McGuire’s office.”
Nancy didn’t give her name. “Is AG McGuire
in?”
“What is your name?”
“I’ll
tell him when you connect him to me.” Nancy sounded very powerful. “Tell him it
is about the casino vote.” Nancy counted on this woman being used to getting
confidential calls. The she heard the elevator music.
Finally, “He’s not in.”
“Good,” said Nancy, “Just tell him that I will
be there to see him in a half hour.” She knew it would only take 15 minutes, but
she wanted to get there early.
The Answer:
1. The first book I was aware of was The World According to
Garp. I guess that as because it was his first success after 3 good but unknown
novels like #1 Setting free the Bears.. Maybe his biggest success was Cider
House Rules which became a successful movie and is often adapted for the stage.
Others were Hotel New Hampshire, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Widow for One Year
and The Fourth Hand. 2. I guess what
comes to mind pretty fast is The Jackson Five, The Osmonds and The Cowsills (A
local group). The BeeGees, McGuire Sisters and Andrew Sister were big. Do you
call the Everly Brothers a family group? I think the Winans Family, King Sisters
and Lennon Sisters were pretty well known as were the Mills Brothers. Actually,
I found a list of over 250 so-called Family Singing Groups.

I
think I’ll give up watching politics for the rest of
