Today's Tids Issue 3,548
Opening Stuff:
For
months I have passed by the sea of icy blue. It is that cold
winter sea that that is so lusty, beckoning us all to its shore like the siren’s
call. It is a blue that is only there when the cold winds blow, while we burrow
into our sheltered dens. Yesterday the sun glowed upon southern breezes and
bathed the land in warmth. Yet the cold of the sea like sapphires rested in
winter’s grasp. A rare beauty of icy blue that is always there but not often
seen. A remarkable contrast beneath a summer sun.
For
some odd reason this week I have had trouble with Tids
email deliveries to Florida readers. Do you Think Trump bought the Internet to
control incoming prior to the primaries?
I
think some of the most creative people in the entire world
are those who each morning awake wondering what to have for dinner, and then proceed
to come up with a clever creation, often with a new twist never seen before. Personally,
I’m in awe.
The
Question:
Who was Mildred Gillars? Bonus: Name four Michael Douglas movies.

The
Delilah factor, Department:
In a column by William Kunstler I came across a
phrase, “Fundamental Dishonesty”, which got me thinking. It refers not to Politicians
lying, but their seeing the problem, knowing it intimately and doing nothing
about it. This disassociation of reality from the truth has sad consequences,
like encouraging risk with no consequences on Wall Street and the continuation of
a failing Affordable Care Act, and everything in between. It is not the
province of either political party but a generally accepted apathy pervasive in
DC and elsewhere that’s basically sapping the strength of a giant. The problem is
that the solution to ills almost always calls for sacrifice, from the poorest
to the richest from the most honest to the least. The next time a leader in government
or industry or education spouts an excuse for non performance, remember
Fundamental Dishonesty. It can be overcome. We can pull down the pillars of the
temple that money has built; give it back to the people. We just need leaders
with guts…and more of them not tied to the lobbyist’s strings. And all peoples
willing to give.

rare days when the Tids doesn’t arrive by email.
If
we got one tenth of what was promised to us in these State of the Union
speeches. There wouldn’t be any inducement to go to heaven. –Will Rogers.
We
should never rely on the old excuse, “We don’t do it
that way.” We may be missing something great.
I’m
not surprised in the least that the guy known as “Chumlee”
on the Reality show Pawn Stars was arrested on felony gun and drug charges and
is being investigated for a sexual assault complaint. Up to this, I would consider
him the luckiest person on earth. No apparent talent, no apparent brains, but making
good money as a star of TV!
Politicians
are people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel, go out and buy
more tunnel. –John Quenton
My
guess is that the push against Trump by Republicans
will only make his support stronger. Even The Hill is learning that the Donald
is huge with Independents. Back about a year ago the Tids political chief
suggested that the candidate who wins the Indies will win it all.
Depending
on the outcome of the election, you may want to move
to be with your own. Here are most Liberal, Conservative and Middle of the Road
cities in the USA. Liberal: Berkeley Ca, Hoboken, NJ, Somerville Ma, Boulder
Co, Evanston Ill, College Park Md, Ann Arbor Mich, Mercer Island Wa, Alexandria
Va and My home town -- Newport RI.
Yikes, I’m tainted. Conservative: Alabaster Ala, Crestview Fl, Clinton(?) Ut,
Bristol Tn, Odessa Tx, Yukon Ok, Slidell La, Olive Branch Miss, Peachtree City
Ga and Benton Ark. Centrist: Spokane Valley Wa, Bend Or, Indio Ca, Gainesville
Fl, Albany Ga, Boise Id, Muncie Ind, Sparks Nv, Oregon Ohio and Wildwood Mo.
And if you don’t like that list, here’s another. Everybody has a ranking! http://modernsurvivalblog.com/current-events-economics-politics/top-conservative-and-liberal-cities-in-the-united-states/
The
least “Free” States are California, New York, Hawaii,
New Jersey and Rhode Island. BTW, “Free” for this review is defined by the
measurement of a combination of freedoms from many categories including Fiscal,
Regulatory, Personal, Economic, Liability, Property Rights, Tax Burden and
more. Oh yeah – The most free states are North and South Dakota, Tennessee, New
Hampshire and Oklahoma.
Politics
is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the
rich, by promising to protect each from the other. –Oscar Ameringer
The
NFL Free Agency opened with Denver heir to Peyton leaving
for Houston Texans. The Pats picked up a linebacker of no significant repute. NY
Giants considered most aggressive in first day signings. Miami lands Mario
Williams. Jets get Forte. Browns lose key OL to KC. Rumors: Manziel to Denver? RGIII,
Kaspernick, Glennon Among Other Possibilities For QB-Less Super Bowl Chaps. These
agents are far from free! Big money being thrown around like drunken US politicians.
Hey, wait a minute, politicians don’t have to be drunk to throw around money.
I think my mind is struggling today.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 50.
Jared
had driven to his home and parked in the lot beneath his window. He did not go
into the garage in his building, nor did he look at the building at all. He just
parked lie any other person, ten slowly got out, leaving the door open widely
for a minute or so giving the tail a clear view of the empty seats. He locked
the door and awaked down the alley near the lot like any other tourist or diner
to a popular restaurant. It would be a could place to establish an escape plan.
He was also really hungry.
He sat at
the bar and ordered a beer and burger. He looked calm but his eyes were on
alert. He thought he saw the twosome trying to be invisible sliding into the
room in the front. Jared ate here often so he knew just about every server,
bartender and cook, and the ins and outs of the rooms..
The bartender
came back with the burger, “So, Jared, we haven’t seen you in a while. On vacation?”
“Nah Mike,
I met a women who takes me to new places!” He smiled knowingly and they both laughed
at his little word play.”
Anyhow,
good to have you back. Need another beer?” Jared waved him off and took a large
bite out of the hot sandwich. It tasted great, like he always remembered. Maybe
this Nancy caper is too much for my aging body. My old habits were a lot more
relaxing.
Mike came
back over, “How about them Sox…” Jared interrupted.
“Is Jose in
the kitchen?”
“ Yeah,
he is.”
“I think
I’ll go in and say hello,” and then added, “They really got to do something
with Ramirez and Sandoval.” He looked over his shoulder at the front room, but couldn’t
see the boys.
You got
that right,” Jared.
The
Answer:
Mildred Gillars was Axis Sally, the American radio
propagandist for Hitler’s aggression. She was born in Portland Maine and died
in Columbus Ohio. She was convicted of Treason and served 12 years. Note, there
is a little confusion about this, as another American named Rita Zucca (Her
father owned a very popular midtown NYC restaurant called Zucca’s Italian
Garden) was hired by Mussolini to emulate Gillars’ Germany work in Italy. She not
only emulated Gillar, but she stole her name and called herself Axis Sally too.
Treasonous creep. Bonus: Michael
Douglas is now probably best known as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. He had many
more renown films like His first big Movieland achievement, after TV’s Streets
of San Fran, Producer of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. He starred in the
iconic Fatal Attraction and may have gotten his first big H-Wood boost in Romancing
the Stone (Not Sharon – that comes later). Some other’s are War of the Roses,
The American President, The Game (Loved it), Traffic and of course Basic
Instinct which may be known more for Sharon Stone (Who is today 58 Years old.
Happy Birthday.)
