Today's Tids Issue 3,576
Opening Stuff:
I
don’t know if you have ever seen, the beautiful placid
Lexington green. Or walked upon the
wooden boards, of that famous bridge in village Concord. It’s where on this day
first bullets flew, as anger against the tyrants grew. It was the start of what
has come to be, the beginnings of the land of the free. The scars of those bullets
till remain; let those lives not have died in vain. Yet to many, America doesn’t
feel the same, and to those, we should reclaim, The meaning of our great institution,
that is written by founders in the Constitution. Yes the battle for American
began that way, In 1775 on an April day, in small towns inland from the bay.
Have some forgotten what it meant, for why so many lives were spent?
In
case you missed it, yesterday was something called
“Identity Day”. I haven’t found a lot about it, but listening to BBC radio I
got the impression that it is a big social media movement to unite the world.
In case you have been sleeping, a lot of what has been going on around us is
about globalization. The new generations don’t see borders…on anything. Your
next door neighbor isn’t just living on the other side of the hedge any more. In a hundred
years will America still be the land of the free, or just a place on the globe to
grow food? I’m having to travel farther and farther to find my cave.
I
often disagree with the opinions of great chefs.
The
Question:
Double
“Q” Day: 1. What was the name of Roy Hobb’s bat
in the movie “The Natural”? 2. Which
is the only landlocked country in South America? Bonus: Where was the first Laundromat and when? What was the name
of the place?

People
often describe me as being laid back. Think of what I
would be if I didn’t drink caffeine all day.
Did
you see where the US government is giving deported
Central Americans $50,000 to start a business when back in their towns. The
geniuses in our state department think will dissuade them from sneaking back
in. Yeah right! But they’ll send cousins, uncles and ex-wives by the dozen!
It’s that old ransom problem and reminds me of the Tripoli pirates of the late
1780’s, when the US paid huge dough for the release of captured sailors. The
Pasha there said, “Holy S---, this is great”. He started raiding US, British
and French ships at a regular rate, and that became the basis of the Tripoli
Libyan economy for years. Until President Jefferson woke up and sent in the
Marines.
Last
night, The Voice was entertaining, even, to me, the
lesser singers. The front runners, Alisan, Adam and Hannah were on top of their
games, as was Laithe, but what was special, really special, about last night was
Emily Keener. Wow, what a feeling! I could tell the non-country judges were
trying to be nice about something they didn’t’ get, but Mary Sarah was terrific
for me in one of her better performances. (Do you think there is a conspiracy this
year in the hierarchy to diminish the dominance of the country effect in The
Voice?). Owen who I like didn’t deliver as much as usual, but fortunately Paxton
and Nick (Who I was rooting for) had loser style performances. Brian was good,
but not as great as I expected. Daniel could be the surprise that keeps on giving
as he seems to spark with the motivated young girl voting set. Shalyah is a really nice young girl and a
good singer, but last night she only kinda delivered. Paxton should be going
home, beating out Nick, Daniel or maybe Mary. But Istill think Daniel may
surprise again and mary may get a big country boost.
I
see where the first woman President of Brazil is on the
verge of being impeached. Hmmm.
“Like”,
Department:
I just heard of a horrific tale of a young girl
who videoed for all to see on social network app “Periscope” the rape of her 17
year old best friend. She said she did it to scare off the rapist, but of
course that never happened, She never tried to dial 911 on that phone of hers.
In fact she was heard giggling as the brutality went on, giggling because it
seems that she became enamored with all of the “Likes” she was receiving from
the viewers of her videocast. Is tis the moral wave of the future where the
urge for “Likes’ overwhelms sensibility and moral integrity. It might be as it
is reported teens are looking ”Live” vides as the hot new entertainment diversion
in their crowds. And unfortunately, outrageousness and probably depravity will
drive it. Sad, real sad.
The
Answer:
1.
Roy
Hobb’s homemade bat in the wonderful movie The Natural was named “Wonderboy”. 2.
Bolivia is the only Landlocked country in South America. Bonus. The doors to the first Laundramat opened in 1934 in Fort
Worth Texas. It was named, The “Washateria!”
Take
a minute to remember the farmers and town’s people of
Concord and Lexington who began our country’s fight 241 years ago today. Let’s
hope we aren’t Losing it.
