Today's Tids Issue 3,572
Opening Stuff:
I
just woke to realize that I have to vote in a primary
in 13 days. Yikes! I have no clue, no leanings, no maybe’s. I have never
experienced this in my life. Maybe I’m just too old and wise to grasp the meanderings
of frivolity and anger.
I
think tomorrow I’ll walk to the sea. Give you a report on
the new life I see. Try to describe the mist in my face, as I settle into my favorite
place. Since my early days as a lad, I remember the days strolling with dad. He
quite tall, holding my hand as we explored summers sand. He taught me about the
mighty ocean, and he did it with loving emotion. So, now you know why, I see
such beauty when the grey gulls fly. The sea may wash away the footprints he
made, but memories of walking in them will never fade.
Do
you get the feeling that if by some unfortunate confluence
of circumstances Hillary is elected, that the “Buck will never stop at her Desk.”
HST must be playing a sad tune on his piano.
According
to Zillow, houses with Barn Doors, Shaker Cabinets,
Farmhouse Sinks, Subway Tile and Quartz Counter Tops sell fastest. It’s the old
maxim – sell what people are buying.
The
Question:
There’s good news in this world and that is that
the Tiger Population is growing nicely. That will be positive for sports teams
with Tigers as their mascots and nicknames. Name five Tiger teams.

The
“Billions” is finished for the season, and what a season. This
battle between the tarnished US State’s Attorney and the hedge fund guy who
walks on the edge was well acted with Damon Lewis and Paul Giamatti In the lead,
with great support from Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman and Toby Leonard Moore. The good news is that they left it open ended
for next year. Having things to look forward to is good for the soul.
If
you are looking for a new Pick-up, the Ford 150 left
GMC, Ram, Chevy and Toyota in the dust in the latest crash tests. And besides,
Ford just sounds better in songs. Or is that Fode?
It
appears that because Trump has annoyed so many people he
may have trouble finding a running mate.
In
case you are thinking about beerin’ around beautiful New
England this summer, Craftbeer.com has named six bars as tips for their choice
of craft brews: Norey’s, Newport RI; Armsby Abbey, Worcester Ma, Novare Res
Bier Café, Portland Me; Willimantic Brewing Company, Willimantic Ct, Farmhouse
Tap and Grill, Burlington Vt and Area 23, Concord NH. Here’s to ye!
This
is that in-between time of year when it’s too cold for
golf in the early morning and too crowded for sane golf when It warms up later.
Golf is good for me when it’s 43 degrees and up.
Cruz
may be the exactly right guy for the Conservative Repubs,
but he has a long way to go to capture the hearts of potential crossover Democrats,
Independents…and many moderate Republicans.
We
had another decent contest of singers on the Voice
last night. My personal favorites were Owen Danoff who is a cool customer folk
singer and the guy with the terrorist name (Oops, did I just say that?) Laith
al-Saadi who is a very good entertainment, but who screamed a little out of control
last night (He saved it with a good Guitar solo ending. A couple of my earlier
favorites were not as good as usual: Emily Keener, though solid for me, was a
little flat and had trouble starting, and Hannah Huston started great but got
the out of control screamies later on. Another of my early favorites, Moushumi,
was lost and underwhelming. A couple of surprises were youngsters Lacy Mandigo
who continued to show growth and Caroline Burns who didn’t seem to miss a note
in a beautiful effort. The place and judges went berserk over Shaylyah Fearing.
And, I thought she was good, but not that good. Adam Bring Backer Nate Butler
was ordinary and uninteresting, while Pharrells returnee Daniel Passino may
have done enough to keep on chugging. Caity Peters was easily the worst of the
night. Ok who stays after tonight. I’m thinking for Adam that Owen and Shalyah
will be voted in and Brian Nhire will be the third, unless voters turn to Laith
or Caroline. Tough one. For Pharell, it could go anywhere but Caity. I think He
will keep Hannah, and Daniel will be voted in. I would like him to give Emily
another shot, but he may opt for Moushumi who he seems to like. And then there
is Lacy who shows a lot of grit and may have done enough to capture votes. I
think Pharell could end up anywhere. On the ITune charts, the latest for last night
has Shalyah (15), Owen (24), Laith (33), Daniel (44), Hannah (45), Emily (59),
Caroline (67) Brian (78). None for the two nights are in the Top ten so no
extra points. But rankings may indicate voting. Excited?
That
shooting death of the Former NO Saints star Will Smith is getting
weirder and weirder. The early facts seemed fairly clear cut, but the more you
see the more the case becomes foggier. That’s the new world we live in – a video
on every corner, in every nook. Now it appears that Smith rear ended the Hummer
first, and that Smith had a gun in the car. Now if there was only audio of the
words that were exchanged.
It
appears to me that everybody is ganging up on Trump.
That means his supporters are also feeling the venom of the insiders they are
so hungry to unseat. This race is a lot about people who don’t feel represented,
and the more the establishment decries their hero, the more they bind together to
rebel. Hardworking people’s lives matter.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 53 continues…
The crowd
took a step or two forward but Richard didn’t flinch. Then something happened. “Give
us Aaron, two of them shouted. This is our problem now. Others joined in, and
Richard and Jeremiah’s eyes met showing concern. But Jeremiah knew better than
to reach for one single weapon in the face of a growing crowd.
Pushing through
the crowd came young Tom Howland. He walked past the shouting men, moving his
arms to quiet the rant. He didn’t look at Richard, but went right to his brother
Zach. He bowed his head.
His hands came
together in a silent prayer. Richard’s hand formed tight fists beneath his long
sleeves. Jeremiah tried to catch the eye of his father. He knew that being
still was the most he should do. He felt scared as he looked at the crowd. He couldn’t
tell if they were angry or accepting.
Nothing moved. The breezes seem to become silent
so that all that could be heard was the soft whispering of Tom. His lips
stopped moving. He rose up and walked to Richard. He brought up his arms and wrapped
them around the older man. In a voice now loud enough for all to say, Tom said as
he stepped away, “thank you for bringing
home my brother”. He then walked to the front of the harbor village men who had
now been joined by many women, but not Tom and Zack’s mother
“I mourn
my brother because he is blood. I love my brother because he is my mother’s
son. But his death shall not signal anger when at this time we have found away to
grow together for the good of all.”
Several
of the men now came forward and took Tom’s hand and said proper words. Richard could
now see that the Village people without Big Howland were decent folk who understood
community. All of his work had not been undone by one.
In the back of the crowd a young boy watched in
horror, never taking his eyes off the body of his older brother in the back of
the wagon. He looked at Richard and Jeremiah and made a vow never to forget.
Tom was a fool. He, Samuel, would run the Howlands when It became his turn.
The
Answer:
Well, in the pros it is the Detroit Tigers. I think
of Princeton first in the college ranks because Dick Kasmaier their Heisman
winner in the early fifties was everybody’s favorite football player. Then there
is mighty Clemson, LSU, Missouri, Memphis, Auburn, Benedict, Doane, Occidental,
Olivet Nazarene, Quachita Baptist, Rochester Institute of Technology, Salem
International, Savannah State, Sewanee (University of the south), Tennessee
State, Texas Southern, Towson State, Trinity (Texas), Vorhees and Wittenberg.
Quachita Baptist?
I
have to spend the rest of the day getting serious about
making a choice about a president. I’m thinking of Sarah Palin. She’s kind of a
Tiger.
