Sailboats afar on a lazy pale blue sea like puffy clouds against a dreamy sky.

Today's Tids Issue 3,711

“HORRIFYING” in two inch, bold black grabbed me by the neck this morning as I opened the paper to read about the debate. You could hear the collective gasps from giddy east side liberals all the way down here in Newport; joining equally dismayed lefties from the port city. The media had jumped on Trump’s reluctance to say he would support the winner. Yet, I heard so much more about what can happen to America. Like Hill’s description of her Supreme Court which would shape the Constitution to meet the ideologies of the progressives. Horrifying! I heard her jump on Russia to pivot away from answering shocking accusations that are clear in WikiLeaks emails. Horrifying. What was probably perplexing to Trump supporters was his inability once again to pounce on obvious opportunities before retreating to his usual indictments of the condescending Hillary. Here was Trump not pointing out that the Finance of the slain Chris Sevens was in the audience to support him. Horrifying. While The Hill kept repeating the accusations of woman, Trump could have repeated over and over, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, Glen Doherty, Chris Stevens, the names of the four men killed at Benghazi. But, he didn’t Horrifying. No, I’m glad I watched to hear the facts myself instead having to rely on translations by media. Unfortunately, the debate deteriorated and I switched off after one hour that seemed like six.

Better to have watched the video I just saw on line of a pod of 50-60 dolphins yesterday racing a sailboat through deep, dark, choppy waters off Castle Hill and Beavertail a mile or so from here. We get lost in the shallowness of humans forgetting the magnificent of nature which always lays before us to inspire our positive imaginations and thrill our senses.

You just don’t really need a lot of the new technology that seems to be invented every day.

The Question:
What is the name of the former actress who once kissed Elvis and is now known as Reverend Mother? Bonus: Name the 13 states that were in the Louisiana Purchase. Hint, one of them is Louisiana!

The Headlines:
--US Jobless Claims Rise More Than Expected To 260.000; Home Sales Up Reversing Direction; Markets Lower At Midmorning.

Do you get the feeling reading the news these days that US prestige in the world is diminishing?

I don’t know why I play golf any more. I’m beginning to suck badly. Some people I play with would probably say, “Beginning?” I guess it’s good exercise, and the scenery is great.

Frankly, I’m not a big fan of Early voting. I feel the campaign should play out as long as possible. But that’s just me, an old line American.

I thought that Chris Wallace did a good job. He certainly looked smarter than the two on the stage, and he had a sense of humor which I have failed to see in many of the other sanctimonious moderators. At times as I looked at him, I thought he may have been thinking, “Why am I hear listening to these two insults to the American voter.

Hey, the Tids sports department woke up last week to achieve an11-4 record while experts across the country were averaging around 7-8. And two of our so-called “Easy” picks – Pitt over Miami and Denver over San Diego were two of the four loses. (Sorry, I need a little bragging after the horrendous start.) But maybe the league is tougher, or at least te teams are more equal week after week. Even the matches between two losers can go either way on any given Sunday, say they say. This week will not be easy either. The year to date record is 44-33.

OK, let’s pick-em. Green Bay’s Rogers has looked lackluster, but I can’t see da Bears beating GB at home tonight in a real rivalry battle. The toss-up games this week, to me, are Jints-Rams, Vikes-Iggles, Raiders-Jax, Ravens-Jets, Skins-Lions, Colts-Titans, Bills-Dolphins, Bucs-Niners, Chargers-Falcs, Pats-Steelers, Seahawks-Cards and Texans-Broncs. Hey that’s just about all of them except one, where I am picking Cinncy over Cleveland – unless the Browns get a whiff of Chief Wahoo’s magic potion. See what I mean, parity. I going with the up and down Rams over the up and down Giants. Are the Vikings as strong as they appear? I think they will eke out this tussle in a tough one. The Raiders were a darling, but have lost some surprises. I think I’ll pick Jax at home. Will Geno get the Jets going? Wow, talk about two underachievers. I like watching Jets fans weep at home, so I’m going Ravens. The Skins-Lions will be a real battle and another mystery pick. The Lions have played well and Wash is creeping up. But, I’ll stick with the Lions at home. Two wunderkind QB’s Luck and Mariotta face off in a key conference game. I think Mariotta is better than Indy now. How good are the Bills. The Dolphins maybe the most unpredictable team of all. I got to stick with Buffalo until they lose. I see Kaepernick taking a knee and giving the game to TB. Last week the Chargers won over mighty Denver. Falcons lost to Seattle and looked vulnerable, but they are home and I have to take them. Earlier this year I had Pats losing to Pitt. But the rapist QB is out and Brady looks great. Pats. Sorry Ben. Yikes, the improving Cards at home against the improving Seahawks. I just have to go with the home team and cross my fingers. Finally, we have Houston and Denver in what will also be a good game. Denver will seek revenge against the prodigal QB and beat the Texans before thousands of jeering fans.

You probably knew, but until yesterday I didn’t know there was a large University in the US named Incarnate Word U. As you might have guessed it is a Catholic U. You probably didn’t realize that it has just over 10,000 students and was founded way back in 1881! It is obvious though that this San Antonia U on Alamo Heights does not have a lot of good basketball layers in that student body. Their team, the Cardinals. this year going into the new season is ranked 317th in nation. But the U is bigger than basketball, coming from a tradition based upon giving and helping. It was founded by Sisters of Charity who came down to San Antonio in 1869 to fight an outbreak of Cholera.

Incarnate is an interesting word that is commonly accepted to mean, “God made human”. However, it was never used in the bible but is often part of the Christian teachings. A good synonym would be, “epitomize”. A couple of simple definitions are: “Invested with Bodily and especially human nature and form.” “Made manifest or comprehensible.” “To represent something, such as an idea or quality in a clear and obvious way.” Trump might say “Hillary is evil incarnate.” Or not.

It seems that the real battel last night was Mark Cuban against Rudy Giuliani.

I find it really difficult to understand how Voter IDs would be a hardship on anybody but illegal citizens. Period!

Trump represents the objectives of a lot of people who just don’t like him. Period.

The world wine output is near a 20 year low, as rain and frost have hit vineyards in France and South America hard. Yet, when I walk through a liquor store I always see what looks like acres of bottles of wine that can’t possibly be sold. I don’t think there will be a shortage a somewhere her is a warehouse full of unsold cleverly branded wines that nobody buys.

Wine brand proliferation is a lot like all of that technology out there which gives you more choices than you will be able to use in two lifetimes.

Managing the inventory of a liquor store must be really tough.

Horrifying! maybe the Providence Journal thought it was Halloween.

The caption under the pic of Michelle Obama smiling, sitting next to a laughing Bill Clinton with her hand resting on his arm says, “Looks like Michelle Obama got over being disgusted by lying male pigs fairly quickly.” I guess it is what pigs is.
.
I think I have lost my APP-etite.

The Answer:
Dolores Hart, one of the most popular young actresses of the times, had the world in front of her before she decided to become a cloistered nun at the age of 24. She still resides at the convent Laude Regina near beautiful downtown Bethlehem Connecticut. She along with now deceased Patricia Neal built a theater there which is still active and thriving. It is said that the Hollywood community took her choice of God over them as a personal affront. Duh!  Bonus: The other 12 states are Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

One of the favorite Democrat speaking points I have heard repeatedly is, “electing Trump would be the end of Democracy!” I’m thinking that electing Hilary would be the end of the Constitution. She actually says that every time she outlines her SC objectives.

The media is Hillary incarnate.
