Today's Tids Issue

For Reconsidering:
What
you do today will affect you tomorrow. So, basically
each day we are in control of much of what will happen in days to come.
A
reader in reaction to yesterday’s Tidlet abut empty
churches suggests that the opening of Sundays to retail shopping was one of the
real culprits in the demise of family Sundays in pews, and around dining room
tables. You know, the quiet Sunday where the funny papers were the prelude to purified
pondering. The so-called “logic” in support of opening the stores that closed
churches, was that working person needed more time on the weekend to shop (Read
that: Retailers want to make more money). Here’s a thought -- now with the
internet shopping, there plenty of time given back to Sunday mornings to the
point where we could cease brick and mortar selling on Sundays again.
One
thing I have learned about Chinese restaurants is that you
can always get a small container of brown gravy along with your take-out. Just
in case.

Impeaching
Rosenstein is one of the dumber ideas I’ve had heard in a long
time. For one thing, If Repubs begin
normalizing impeachment then they will get what they asked for.
I
don’t like the idea that Tommy Hilfiger is embedding Bluetooth
compatible microchips in their clothing. Not that I can afford their clothes.
But it is just another intrusion. We have the technology to spy on people so how
can we use it next and… and how can we disguise it make people believe it is
good for them? Basically, the chip allows the company to know when consumers are
wearing their clothes and where too. They are making it interactive in a way
that the consumer can earn points towards prizes each time they wear TH.
The
energy needed for just one Bitcoin would power a home for
a month. The Blockchain industry is an electricity guzzler, and while some smaller
electronic currency companies are looking for lower power solutions, it could be
eons before reality. So, people around here are wondering why RI thinks it is a
great place for Blockchain companies – in a state that is among the highest in
the cost of electricity. The Governor is touting ocean windmills and rural solar
farms but they don’t play in the league where Bitcoin and pals play.
The
fields in which human beings play are really quite
narrow. It’s quite easy to see both sides and know when it is time move back again,
one way or another.
In
addition to the imposition of retailing opportunities, churches
may have been victim to a new religion – Sunday NFL games. Can’t go to a ten o’clock
service because the bookie needs your bet. Lately I have heard arguments that
the real reason for the antagonism against kneeling is that devout Sunday
footballers resent the intrusion of protests at their stdium churches.

If
Moses were alive today, why would he be considered a

Connecticut
is he richest per capita sate in the union. But it is also one
plagued by existence threatening debt of $53 Billion. Much of it is due to Government
employee pensions and a lot of give-away programs. So for all of the Sanders-ites,
they need not to look at Greece or the failings socialist largess, they just
have focus on the third smallest state Connecticut. Also in the deep trough are
Illinois ($30B), California ($428B), New York ($356B) and New Jersey ($104B).
Speaking
of billions, Mark Zuckerberg lost over $15 B
yesterday. Yikes. Actually, there are some who are suggesting we look for handwritings
on the walls of social media giants, who are trendier than anything else. Today
they are basically a great adverting medium, until people get tired of having their
lives exposed to the world – or younger generation shy away from Mom and Pop’s favorites.

Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--I like good international intrigue movies as well
as any of the genre on the screen. Mission Impossible has been pretty good at this,
although a little over the top at times. Then new version, MI: Fallout, with Ethan
Cruise Hunt gets back to conspiratorial reality. The excitement and stunts are
their but the intrigue of the story is subtler as the team faces another impossible
mission that becomes more troubling when it fails and time is running out.
--Audiences are not nearly as excited about “Teen
Titans Go! To the Movies” as critics. In this light spoof of superhero films,
Robin in their first movie wants to be treated as star instead of a sidekick.
The movie director chosen turns out to be a super villain with a crazy plan to take
over the earth.
--Puzzle is an intriguing little story about Agnus who
at 40 has never ventured far from home (Sounds like a New Englander to me).
That changes rapidly when for a B-Day present she receives a puzzle that not
only entertains but expands her views.
The
Answer:
Maureen McGovern turns 69 today, in case you are
keeping count. Her song “The Morning After” was written originally for the
movie The Poseidon Adventure. Bonus:
Richard Jewel was the poor unfortunate soul accused a by the Feds and the
media. Extra Bonus: Charles Best was
the assistant to Frederik Banting when they isolated Insulin in 1921, leading
finally to relief for diabetics. Many doctors in the years following predicted
the rise of diabetes for years ahead, like today, because diabetics would live much
longer and raise more families with that genetic possibility.
