Today's Tids Issue

The end is near:
Can
you believe it is November? Around here it means free parking
until April. That is good. It means leaves will be falling at an
ever-increasing rate. Not so good. I
like November. The beauty of this month is that the weather is still quite
moderate, but cool enough so I get to wear my favorite plaid shirts on a
regular basis. This year it could be a miserable month for many who take their
politics too seriously. But, perhaps after a few weepy days for one side or the
other, they will all pause and take a deep breath and say thanks. Thanks for
our bounty and thanks for the many opportunities to help those without so much
bounty. Yup, November is many things – harbinger of Winter, short days, and
leafless trees. But, saying thanks makes it one of the best months of all.
We
are in the era of instant emotional gratification
versus considered long term solutions to significant potential problems. Right now,
unfortunately, because of new phenomena like twitter, the instant gratification
Willow Tree Effect is winning.
Without
question, the most valid research results are from clinical
tests by drug companies. Social issue scientists have decided they should also
follow the example of drug companies and perform only “registered” research
programs – research to standards set by unbiased authoritative organizations. In
other words, the people are more and more suspicious of all the studies they
see, and serious statistical scientists are going to greater lengths to assure purity
in the results – ad integrity for their profession. This will be great for all
of the Americans duped over the years.
One
of the big problems leading to the USA rift problem is misappropriated
extrapolated association.
If
crop circles are real, does this mean that aliens have
designs for our planet?
I
live I a city. The other day I went walking in search of
a pile of leaves so I could hear that delightful crunch beneath my feet.
The
Question:
What was the name of America’s first “H” Bomb and
where was is tested. Bonus: What was
the name of the lawyer who replaced Archibald Cox after the Midnight Massacre?
The

The
good news is that in about a week we can except to see the
demise of political mail brochures. However, that will be replaced by myriad
mailers promoting Black Friday. Come to think of it, In Rhode Island Repubs
call election day Black Tuesday.
Our
work often gets in the way of our passion. (Note: I am not
talking about sex in the office.)
Of
course, if politicians and ideologues continue to use bad
research to prove suspect points of view, ten we will need some impartial
research observer to sort between truth and illusion.
I’m
not a big Meagan Kelly fan, but she got screwed by NBC over
her comments about black face costuming which were quite innocuous. If NBC had
wanted to look further they might have found the tapes of their own news Anchor
Lester Holt in “White Face” and several tapes of Jimmy Fallon in Black Face
routines. But, once again, nobody ever remembers the past especially when it is
loaded with facts.
The
Tids Pickers were hot, until the last few games upset he
apple cart. 9-5 last week brings us to 72-46-2. Work to do, work to do. There
are some really great key matchups this week and couple of tough picks that mean
nothing. A big rivalry game for the last time before Oakland becomes Nevada is
between two 1-7 Bay Area teams, Oakland and San Fran in the battle for the Oppressive
Government trophy (OGT). Oakland has a better, healthy QB, and I pick the
Raiders. The other really cool games are Minn-Detroit, Pitt-Balt, LAC-Seattle,
Houston -Denver, LAR-NO and GB-Pats. Detroit has played quite well at times but
Minn is a little better and Detroit will be without their just traded best receiver
Golden Tate. Minn wins this one. Pitt is looking now like the Pitt everybody
expected. Balt has had a great defense but has trouble scoring. They are at
home, but I go with the better team, the Steelers. Another team that is gelling
is the Seahawks. But Old man Rivers has the Chargers rolling along. Tough pick,
but I’m going Seattle. Who woulda thunk that Denver versus Houston was going to
be a war after the way the two started. This may be the toughest pick of the
day. My gut says Denver. New Orleans is a team – “D”, Special teams, great
coach and an “O” led by the incomparable Drew Brees. But, the Rams have been
unbeatable. I’m picking New Orleans. The other glamor game of the week is set
for Sunday night between GB and NE. The storyline here of course will be written
to death in the next few days preceding – Aaron Rogers versus Tom Brady; Danica
Patrick versus Gisele Bundchen. Aaron Rogers is one scary dude, especially when
you think you have him boxed in. And NE is not even very good at Boxing. I’m
gong with my heart.
For
the rest of the games I have Miami Over the Jets in a mystery
game that could be very close, an improving Skins over the questionable
Falcons, the excellent KC over the Coachless Browns, Carolina over Tampa Bay,
Chicago over the Bills and in an almost good game Dallas over Tennessee.
Frankly, I’m pulling for the Titans, but Dallas is due. Tenn has been a
question mark lately.
Have
you noticed how West Coast billionaires often step up bravely
to support taxes for social issues, not considering that they may broaden the social
ills problem with suffocating taxes on the real working people struggling to
get along in the most expensive communities in the USA. But, I’m course I’m
happy that they are assuaging their guilt. Who needs another grumpy
billionaire.
The
big problem in the home construction field is boulders having
problems building modestly priced homes, the most needed housing in the
country. The tariff laden building materials have pretty much put moderate and
low-cost housing production on the back burner. So much for the dream of owning
first homes.
One
investment wag yesterday said he sees a little relief in
the soaring tech industry as valuations have dropped form “Ridiculous to just
outrageous.” Investors are waiting for
new lows on many of the Wunderkind stocks before jumping back in.
The
Answer:
--The First Hydrogen Bomb was called “Ivy Mike and
was dropped on Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Now it is a vacation
destination. Not for me. Bonus: Lee
Jaworski replaced the easy-going Archibald in the investigation of the century.
Or was the Warren Harding investigation of Tea Pot Dome more nefarious. It just
wasn’t on TV.
November
be has been a month of a million smiles, but none as broad
as on the day in that month when my first child was born. The beauty of where you
are is what is in your heart.
