Nowhere to Hide:
We
have unfortunately entered into this dangerous era of politics
where if a politician doesn’t have a skeleton in his or her closet, an opposition
researcher will piece one together from the bones of their innocent words.
I
love living by the seas with that sweet smell of salt air
and fog horns barooming on misty nights. But, I often think of the countryside wide,
and a rambling cape settled into the rolling hills as if it had grown there
over time. Life is easier when you are flexible
Even
if you were not a big Elvis fan, you would have enjoyed last night’s
tribute to the 50’s icon with hip tremors. It was just a memorizing night of
good singing and genuine fun.
Despite
the national rhetoric, the biggest threat to the future of
the USA is probably a public national debt that will see annual interest paid double in
ten years -- $364B to $761B. if you add intergovernmental payments to the total,
we approach a trillion annually. The continuance of debt is based solely politician’s
promises to voters that help them get elected – which means it cannot be
stopped, nor will it ever end.
I
think it is important to pursue refreshing new ways to quickly
express hard to describe circumstances. My latest new word is Provokeal: To be provocative
in a parochial or provincial way. I have added it to my Spell-Check dictionary.
The
Question:
How many robo calls do you think were placed
nationally last month, and what percentage were scam calls?

Two
young boys on a seaside dock were looking up at
seagull flying over the clam shack, when one said. “I wish I was a seagull. I wouldn’t
have to wear pants and I could eat fried food all day lone.” Boys’ dreams and girls’
dreams are sometimes difficult to reconcile.

President
Trump is continuing with his focus on job creation, this time
with his “emergency” which will surely be a boom to Lawyer hiring.
So,
did you hear about the day mother superior called all of her
nuns together to tell them that they had a case of Gonorrhea in the convent. “Thank God,” shouted one of the nuns. “I’m
tired of Chardonnay.”
Gene
Littler was one of those great, wonderful to watch golfers
who showed up every week. Throughout his long career, including his 28 championships,
sportsmanship was his middle name.
A
pretty rational friend of mine, who after watching the
Grammys, wondered how it is possible to rate the talent of today’s singers when
they all become their costumes and their surroundings -- dancers and dancing,
fireworks and lasers and glittering confetti. Basically, I think there is only
one song in the industry today, which is differentiated by choreographers,
arrangers and stage managers.
Headline
Juxtaposition, Department:
Yesterday in the local paper, the big Sunday story
was about possible mob ownership of a well-known Providence Icon, the Foxy Lady
strip joint. The title of the story was “The Lady and the Mob”. At the top of
an inside page ran the headline, “A lady and the Mob”. Directly beneath it were
pictures of the lady Governor Gina Raimondo, and several politicians.
What
may be scariest to those states morphed into socialist style gov dominated economies is the
fact that for Amazon, NY’s $3 Billion in incentives wasn’t enough to overcome the
hostile environment, regulations and union demands.
You
have to wonder why one day in time somebody decided it was
a good idea to cut facets into a lump of highly compressed carbon.
Diamonds
just prove that the wealthy can always be induced to overpaying for a fad.
There
was a very talented and creative artist living and working n
Iowa. His name was Grant Wood and he is best known for his painting “American
Gothic”. But he had a hard time cracking some NY elitists, and especially the near
communist art community who besieged the prolific country artist with accusations,
saying his paintings of contented rural midwestern life had to be lies designed
to promote a happy America from a suspect big government. Not to mention, that the
growing popularity of his positive scenes were taking away market share from
the NYC artists, and his Provokealism was cofounding myopic critics.
I’m
seeing waiting in the wings for a last-minute inclusion on the
Democrat slate are Beto O’Rourke, Joe Biden and now perhaps Gavin Newsom. And I
think the press is ready to commit to Beto and in a about six months to Gavin
who may be looking to be lifted into the race by public acclamation.
The
Answer:
Last month, 5.2 billion robocalls hit the landlines
across America. 58% of those were scam calls, primarily designed to steal your
personal info, often through intimidation techniques. I don’t answer any phone
calls.
It’s
Winter Festival week here in this city of mine. Usually the
Ice Sculpting takes place on the abnormally hottest day of the winter. And, that’s
the highlight of the week. I never go to it. I just stay inside until the short-term
tourists leave again. Although the polo match on the beach looked interesting.
