Make America, America again.
I
saw but a few seconds of the SOTU, but scurrying around this morning,
I found and liked the line, “America was founded on liberty and independence –
not government coercion, dominance and control. We are born free, and we will
stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist
country.”
Whatever
gave Liam Neeson the idea that he could get a fair trial in Twitter court?
I
did notice the contingent of Progressive female congress people
sitting in a block of white. Now, I know they were trying to emulate the suffragettes
of the past, but all I could only think of was Communist North Korea where the
citizens are forced to wear unifying, one dimensional clothing. The USA was
built upon individuality. Where much of it’s strength has been gained from
those who can think and speak for themselves.
Jokes
about
unemployed people aren’t funny. They just don’t work
The
Question:
Tom Brady has had a pretty good career. How does he
rate on the list of all-time greatest QB’s. Note, I am using one list that is compiled
from opinions from average folks. QB ratings is one of Those subjects that can
go in a zillion directions. Bonus:
Name the Top ten best movies to see on Valentine’s day.

If
you don’t think we are achanging, consider this poll which
I found. It is small, probably more of an indicator/directional poll than one
with scientific credentials. The choices were, 1. Marry or have a life partner
but no Children. 2. Have Children but no partner. 3. Not Sure/ Other. The
answers from 1,600 replies 1. – 55%. 2. – 17%. 3. – 28%. 55% don’t want children!
(Note: This poll is an everyday weekday poll covering every possible life/business/
political/world/you-name-it situation – and is run by giant pollster “You Gov.)
Speaking
of change – The UConn women’s basketball team is now ranked
#5! Last year it was news when UConn dropped from #1 to #2. But, the women’s
athletic world is achangin’ too. The high schools are developing more and better
female athletes. In years past, a handful of elite players went to a thimbleful
of premiere programs, and UConn was certainly at the top of that list. Now, not only is UConn
stumbling a bit against teams they used to womp, but they play in one of the weaker
leagues in the country. What happens when Auriemma leaves? I like women’s
basketball quite a bit. I like the teamwork and passing, and now the new competitiveness
should make it even better. That is, until they get bigger and faster and just
start dunking the ball.
I
made a small typo on Monday. The address for this blog on

Don’t
cry
for me, Casio-Cortez.
Grammar
works, unless it is written in the local church
newsletter. “Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church.
So ends a friendship that began in their school days.” Or “Potluck supper
Sunday at 5:00 PM – prayer and medication to follow.
55%
don’t want children!
From
the church bulletin: “For those how have children and don’t
know it, we have a nursery downstairs.”
I
watched Joe Namath carrying that Lombardi Trophy up to the
SB podium hoping he wouldn’t drop it! Nobody has ever had a better publicist
than Broadway Joe. I’m wondering if that is why he is in the Hall of Fame. Or
is it because of the love affair he had with Big Apple big media. Or was it because
he played on gimpy knees. While a good QB, he only had one truly great foorball
moment which he capitalized on, the upset of the Colts in the Super Bowl. His
tabloid exploits were another thing. But, his stats were below average. In fact
his TD to interception ratio was downright terrible -- 173 Touchdown passes to
220 interceptions. His percentage completion rate was 50.1%, and many years he was
in the 40’s% range. He had many great physical capabilities, but did he use his
head all of the time? He had but 4 of 12 winning seasons. He ranked 171
(Between Norm Snead and Jim Hart) on the all-time QB Passer rating list. So,
the kid from Beaver falls Pa who got the headlines in the Apple made it to the Hall.
But, you wouldn’t be entirely sacrilegious wondering why.
I
finally got around to watching the critically acclaimed
and Oscar favorite, Roma. It’s a little tedious, flawed and predictable. Just one
more Oscar favorite in the Ho-Hum category for me. It happens every year. But then,
maybe I’m not that bright.
It
won’t be long before a legal vote will be driving by
city hall and waving.
The
Answer:
The top ten by “Ranker” has Joe Montana still at #1.
Brady is #2 and Peyton manning is 3. Next is “Statman”, no championships Dan
Marino, followed by John Elway, Brett Favre, Johnny Unitas, Steve Young , the wonderful
Roger Staubach and at #10, Terry Bradshaw. The next five are Drew Brees, Aaron
Rogers, Bart Starr, Troy Acheman and Kurt Warner (Kurt Warner?). There is a
tendency on lists like this for the most current players to get more votes. The
great Sid Luckman who won four NFL championships is down at #31. He is second
to another great down the list, Otto Graham (Whose teams dominated the AA), in
average yards per completion. Bonus:
Ranked number one is A Walk to Remember. That is followed by Sleepless in Seattle,
Dirty Dancing, The Notebook, Titanic, Notting Hill, Pretty Woman, Love
Actually, Ever After and #10 Ghost. It was nice to see that the 19th Century Classic Pride and Prejudice
showed up at #15.
I
attended a lecture on Ellis Island the other day. It’s
obviously a place of pride for many generations of American families. And, it
was entirely focused on Legal immigration.
