Today's Tids Issue 4,427
What's left after the left has left:
President Trump has backed into two ugly
corners
right now – Iran and China. Critics and supporters may argue whether or not his
policies are right or wrong, but that doesn’t count anymore now that we are in the
throes of the presidential campaigns. Easing tariffs would help support one of
his basic achievements, a strong economy. To do that, though, some would perceive
it as backing down. And, I would have to think that Xi knows this, and is ready
to toughen his stance. How does Trump step away from harsh penalties while still
looking strong for America? In Iran, there is the distinct possibility for an accidental
war. And it would be, in my estimation, one of the ugliest wars of all. Iran is
not a scattered, discombobulated terror organization. It is from all reports a
formidable military force. So, while the Dems shout and scream to get noticed, these
are two real political issues that not only could affect a re-election but the peace
and economic stability of the planet. That’s what I’m watching.
I’d like to know more about
the feelings and personalities of US Women’s soccer players than just the image
of them created through the words of their dominant spokeswoman.
When ferns cohabitate,
they are fronds with benefits. Shoot me.
The Question:
Ok, name the five most famous Andy Warhol artistic efforts.

In professional sports,
the people who get the most money are the people who produce or contribute to the
production of the most revenue. On that basis, the Women’s soccer team should be
getting a huge raise.
I think the media is in a
quandary this morning over the apparent contemptible existence of Jeffery Epstein.
They would dearly want to associate Trump with him, but they know that Clinton
was a much better pal of his, and apparently spent a lot of time with him. It’s
fun watching TV News hosts weasel through this one.
The Clinton team
has released statement saying basically, “I know nothing.” -- regardless of
what is, is.
At times when playing golf,
I do tend ot pull the ball, sometimes quite seriously. Yesterday in fact I had
an AOC/Bernie, a shot so far left that it was in with snakes and poison ivy – more
than likely out of bounds and totally unplayable. Nearly acceptable is an Amy
Klobuchar which is would be in the left fringe. But, A Harris, Warren or Buttigieg
will give me a second shot, but not much of one. Occasionally, I hit a good Repub,
which is right down the middle in perfect position. But those are rare these
days.
If you are planning on buying anew home,
you probably would be smart to avoid the Sans -- Jose, Fran and Diego -- plus
Seattle Boston, Washington DC, Oakland, LA, New York and Long Beach. These are the
top ten most expensive housing markets. If you are up to moving to Louisville,
Memphis and Cleveland, you are going to do quite well.
Was NY’s Governor Cuomo’s authorization
to release Trumps income tax records a violation of the 4th Amendment.
It certainly appears that it violates the intent of that Amendment. The fourth
was the work of James Madison in to respond to Britains “Writ of Assistance” where
the King or reigning government could order an unreasonable search for just about
anything just because somebody was not liked.
This is the season
when it is really difficult to believe anything in the news as so much of what is
said or done is to achieve an election victory.
One of the more disheartening
things I have read lately is the story about the Grandfather dangling a one-year
old grandchild out the window of a cruise liner and losing his grip. God.
The Providence Journal
just sent me an email reminding me it’s time to sign up for their Down City 5K!
I’ll have to consult my smart watch.
Speaking of Journals, the one called Wall
Street just did a real hit job on Rhode Island and Providence.
If anybody with the authority to move a company to a new state read it, it is unlikely
that any would pick the beautiful Ocean State, ever. If they at all considered
it. The state was labeled for all to see, “An Education Horror Show” It hammered
the new union centric “Evergreen Rule” which dramatically reduces the ability of
towns and cities to favorably and fairly negotiate public employees’ contracts.
And that’s just this week’s bad news.
Is photography of internal organs
a wave of the future or just a flash in the pancreas.
You have to wonder
how many good photos are lost in this new era of pictures come, pictures go
digital photography.
July 17
has always been a bewitching day for the stock market, at least to the eyes of this
amateur stock watcher. It is the day typically when Wall Street begins to understand
the trend for the Q2 profits, and it can be a really tough quarter, especially in
times when it’s tougher to squeeze out profits. Maybe the surprise Pepsi
reported yesterday will be the signal for optimism. Maybe. 8 days to watch.
If you are having big dental
work done, it is always important to have it all accomplished before fresh corn
the cob season.
Older people
are finding they are expanding the range of their reading interests as the main
criteria for library requests is Large Print. I don’t care about the subject as
long as I can see it.
The Answer:
#10 on ten Warhol list “The Banana”, which is
basically what it is. I like it. Next is a series of prints of fictional
characters from pop culture like Micky Mouse. Looks like Disney drew it. #8 is “Big
Electric Chair’. Not for my home, nor taste. Next is very nice monumental
painting of “Flowers”. Like it. The pen and ink drawing of a Coca Cola bottle
doesn’t do it for me. Now #5, “Mao”, is one I remember as memorable. It may be
used as a backdrop on the stage at the Dem nominating convention. #4 is his self-portrait
which I could do without. #3 is “Eight Elvises”. Eh. #2 is what I think of
first when somebody says Warhol – “Campbell’s Soup Cans”. That’s when I decided
to go into art. Considered #1 is “Marilyn Diptych”. The Guardian named his
Marilyn work as “The third most influential piece of modern art”. So, what do I
know.
In case you are interested,
the most influential piece of modern art is Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon”.
Some think that Marcel Duchamp’s “Fountain” (A chilly looking urinal –say what)
should be first. After Andy some suggest Matisse “Blue Nude”. I think Warhol is
a nice designer.
Also in the “In case too are interested,
Department” – Diptych is a painting, most usually found
as an altar piece, consisting of two wooden panels with a hinge so it may be
closed like a book. So, that’s the end of this chapter of AmeriTids. See you
tomorrow.
