Today's Tids Issue 4,423
Watermelon, Ice Cream and Blueberries
Well, the potatoes
are peeled, cooked and cut for tomorrow’s blending with secret recipes of oils,
dressings, herbs and spices and ingredients only known to gramma and her heirs.
The flag is firmly planted outside in the lawn or gracefully waving in a holder
by the front door. We find ourselves humming God Bless America while visioning revolutionary
soldiers in uniforms of blue, muskets and bayonets at the ready. Kids are smiling
at the prospects of staying up late tonight for booms and kablams. Its that day
again when we remember the allegiance and courage of solders and citizens alike,
who took the first step towards the sculpting out the greatest country of them
all.
We like to sit neath
a shady tree, overlooking the churning sea. Watching sails filling and lufting
and free. Hulls knifing through waters blue. With the hot sun baring down; swatting
flies from burgers and dogs, and fries…and potato salad. With watermelon Red
and ice cream White, and fresh berries atop, that are Blue.
When the atheist
realized his predicament, he knew he didn’t have a prayer.

English scholar and lexicologist
Samuel Johnson wrote: “To trifle with the vocabulary which is the vehicle of
social intercourse is to tamper with the currency of human intelligence. He who
would violate the sanctities of his Mother Tongue would invade the recesses of
the paternal till without remorse.” Johnson, an avowed anti-punster, was talking
about disparaging the meaning of words for games. That is another reason we declared
independence from England – for freedom of expression!
That said,
it is to remember that punners are going to pun and shunners are going to shun.
“Not I, believe me.
You have dancing shoes with nimble soles; I have a soul of lead.” – Shakespeare,
Romeo and Juliet
Just-in-Time-for-Election, Department:
Yesterday the US House filed a suit to request all
tax files for one Donald T. Trump. The Tids Political Observation Department
will use this space over the next 17 months to point out obvious moves by politicians
and their handlers to muddle clear thinking and create real or imagined crisis for
opponents in the race for the Pennsylvania avenue Prize.
No it isn’t the DMV.
It is the doctors’ offices across this land that are the most inefficient and confounding.
And at times impersonal.
Sometimes my first lines of the daily
Tids is a lot like my first early morning swings at a golf ball. By the fourth
or fifth hole my swing begins to feel like I’m once again coordinated. It also takes
about five triplets, followed by revisions for the first four, when my mind
coordinates with my fingers..
BTW, a reader
quickly pointed out a major typo yesterday in the second Tidlet, where I wrote “Sunday
porn talk shows” instead of “Sunday morn talk shows.” On second thought though,
the Porn reference for some of those shows seems like an apt characterization.
A timber wolf
is a dog-like animal with wooden legs.
Samuel Johnson would abhor
the current immigration discussion where one side routinely dismisses the word “Illegal”.
The Answer:
I thought I’d give you this question so you’d know
them before someone decides to remove their statue forma park. #1 is George
Washington. Next is John Adams, followed by Thomas Jefferson , James Madison,
Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Thomas Paine, Alexander Hamilton
and Gouvenour Morris. This top ten exactly the same on several lists, but I have
also found mentions of John Jay, Robert Morris and Henry Knox,
The left is picking off American heroes
one by one. In the end we will have no history to educate us of achievements,
and missteps too. And into the vacuum will step a government that would vanquish
independence for all. The latest is Thomas Jefferson’s home town of Charlottesville
declaring they would no longer celebrate
the birthday of their most distinguished citizen, and America’s finest.
Remember the hero’s,
remember the people big and small who stood together in times gone by to deliver
freedom and opportunity for all. For all to speak out, unencumbered.
Well, maybe not on twitter.
