Trying too hard to be different.

Today's Tids Issue 4,931

Thee past was Ok:

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” --Mark Twain.

So, I guess it’s about time I began the morning Mess. Oh, and Mark, you forgot, “And no typos!”

The opinion of some international Russia experts is that Biden called this meeting, so there is no pressure on Putin, probable President of Russia until 2036. He just showing up wins. And it is well known he is on his own path with China, Iran and others and needs nothing from America to survive. Maybe that’s why the admin keeps on lowering the bar for results. I would hop that the talks center on Cyber weapons. Now, that’s an issue. That’s where the focus of our strength should be.

When we were kids, the official sports drink was water out of the garden hose. Nobody died.

The Question:

Who were the opponents running against Lincoln in his two Presidential elections?

The most noticeable rebounding segment of our society is in clothing purchases. People are back at work, going out again and traveling. And they want to look good. I just go back and find my 20 year old shirts and people say, is that new? Bingo.

Well at least WS can’t use the “Awaiting Feed Money Policy Disown” tomorrow to explain the market doldrums and/or confusion. It decision time. I don’t think it will amount to much, despite all the anticipation hype.

Remember when we used to eat cake even after somebody had just blown out the candles? We were wild and crazy back then.

I just don’t get assaulting people over masks. But I just don’t get calling everybody a racist either.

It is recommended to cook kale in a little coconut oil. They say it makes it easy to scrape it from the frying pan into the trash can.

The current inflation should have been integrated into the markets months ago. We are not in an intrinsic inflationary period. We are in a temporary readjustment period where supply is trying to rapidly catch up with demand. And it will.

I think that news item about Baptist going moderate is significant. The nation is feeling moderate these days. But going moderate doesn’t mean giving up your principles. It just means that easing national tensions, which is not such a bad idea. Maybe if the media reported more on the calm center instead of the outrageous extremes.

The overwhelming number of Americans just want to lead their daily lives.

Today marks an anniversary of the day Lincoln was nominated by the Republican party to be their candidate for President. In his e acceptance speech, he acknowledged that slavery was the biggest issue had to be ended, His speech that day included his now famous line, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Isn’t it interesting now how the left is using racism and identity politics to divide our house all over again? I was going to write, “Don’t people listen the past; see th efforts that so many have made over so many years to assure equality. But today’s left extremists who want to divide America will never listen lest it destroys their ambitions to destroy the underlying principles of a great nation.

In the past, people didn’t have to be told “Don’t try this at home,” because they had brains. Or was that because there were far fewer lawyers trying to make a buck.

Thanks to a clever reader for all the “In the past” lines.

The Answer:

In 1860, Stephen A. Douglas was the nominee of the Dems. Also in 1860, the pro slavery Dems nominated John Breckinridge. the fourth candidate came out of the old Whigs party and the “No Nothings” – John Bell. In 1864m Abe ran against George B. McClellan, a Union General that Lincoln had fired.

The Biden Admin budget left out the word “Mother”, replacing it with “Birthing Person”. What an insult! Don’t mess with mothers.

In the past, we still had mothers.
