Perception is killing America.

Today's Tids Issue 5.214

Joe Friday had it right:

“I am an optimist. It does not seem too much use being anything else.” --Winston Churchill

A society that lives upon fast fading snippets will never grow deep roots that would hold them firm against tempestuous winds.

A Yahoo Finance headline this morning said, “Socks rally on Wall Street.” So, I bought 10,000 pairs of Argyles hoping for a new trend. How great does Typo Boy feel this morning after mighty Yahoo proofreaders miss a big one!! Or maybe Socks are rallying and I should get into knee-highs too. Alas, The Red Sox have not been rallying lately.

Millennials who do stupid things tend to be oblivious to their buffoonery, always saying we are challenging “Norms”. That means to this old guy that we are giving up on civilized society to rationalize the antics of the irresponsible.

The Question:

Name the five best types of Hedges.

The Headlines:

--Stocks Rise After Retails Sales Report Shows Strong June Data; Citi beats Estimates.

--All Eyes On Biden Meeting With “Pariah”.

--Manchin Says He Will Not Support Climate, Tax Provisions In New Sweeping Dem Plan.

--SC Lawyer Alex Murdaugh Charged With Murder Of Wife And Son.

--Tiger Woods Finishes Day Two Of The Open At Plus 9; Misses Cut.

Have we managed to slow the manic heartbeats of wild-eyed investors? It feels a little better. But who knows what will happen with Joe Algorithm in town.

A day or two ago I said don’t overreact to the bad June inflation report as there were signs that the first third of July showed positive progress against the dreaded inflation, Now today we and Wall Street are all aglee seeing a super June Retail Sales Report. Should I be a hypocrite and accept that at face value a report that could be defused now by signs of the consumer is slowing down as a reality of less dictionary cash looms. Nah, I’ll just be a hypocrite and accept the good News June.

Did you hear about the mathematician who’s afraid of negative numbers? He’ll stop at nothing to avoid them.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.” Mark Twain

The Kansas City Royals are trying to patch together a team to play up in Canada this weekend. It appears several of their stars don’t like vaccinations, so Canada says leave them home. Let’s see, these guys are making $5-$20 million a year to do nothing but play baseball well, and they think protesting vaccines is more important than earning their paycheck... which at times requires following some rules that may be uncomfortable. KC hasn't been the first team.

So much is deemed so persuasive over so little facts.

An inane activist who decided it a good Idea to torch a Providence RI police car during George Floyd demonstration just got three years in jail for the felony. The judge said something like, violence that thrusts peaceful pretests into riots destroys the integrity of American's right to use free speech in protest. Nice to see a professional protestor berserk promulgator get properly punished.

Do you notice how people tend to say, “Give my (Miscreant) politician a break, but never consider removing your politician's feet from the fire/.

Sometimes a person's greatest attribute is an ignorance that allows them to dream unfettered.

The Answer:

A nice hedge can took quite beautiful, even majestic, and hide myriad landscaping sins. Number one is Wintergreen Boxwood. Next are Ligustrum Waxleaf Privat, Winter Gem Boxwood, Japanese Holly, Chicago Viburnum and Nellie Stevens Holly.

“If you think you are too small to be effective, then you have never been in a dark room with a mosquito.” --Dalai Lama

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
