Bigger than life

Today's Tids Issue 5,270 ]

Stability is good:

God save the Queen.

Thanks to Hillary Price we learned that the day when Marco Polo’s wife said “We need to spice up our marriage, He took off for the East Indies for 10 years. He brought back nutmeg.

This long uplifting experience of citizens coming together to honor a long-time respected leader speaks well of nations having a continuing source of stability to help counter volatile political rifts. In ours, it is the constitution. Those who for some unknown reason would want an “New” USA, and would seek to fragment it, must be fought with all our might. It is our King/Queen.

Maybe we should put more I effort into celebrating September 17, the day The Constitution was signed.

Today Is National Respect for the Aged Day. I wish I was old so I would get some respect.

The Question:

What is the origin of the phrase, “Without a hitch”?

The Headlines:

The world honors the Queen of England. Elizabeth, Mother, Wife, Leader.

--Markets Open Lower Again; Investors Fear More Earnings Disappointments Like FedEx Lurking.

--Hurricane Fiona Slams DR A Day After Knocking Out All Power In PR.

--Biden Renews Commitment To Taiwan.

Actually, people should not expect respect and special treatment because they are of an age a gender as race and any other identity differentiation on the face of this earth except for an honest, giving, loving heart, and other assorted attributes of character and convictions.

Lots and lots of people don’t pay traffic fines. We used to call them Scofflaws. But wokeness seems to have disallowed calling an orange an orange or any level of lawlessness a criminal action.

That FedEx prediction of the next year slowdown may have been one of the more honest appraisals of our economy to date.

The attendance at the big boat show here this past weekend was bigger than ever seeming to belie the thought of a recession.

You may be getting some shorter than Average Tids this week. But I’ll try.

NFL’s Goodell calls Thursdays Game on Amazon “Historic”. Yeah, Historic for 32 owners who made a quick billion while by signing up with Amazon. Making it harder for many fans to enjoy the game. As one sports wag, Mad Dog Russo said (Paraphrasing), “Historic was the NY Giants against the Baltimore Colts, Green Bay Against Dallas in the ice bowl. Goodell is a joke?”

Dems are calling sending illegal immigrants to Sanctuary cities a political stunt. Of course, not original or surprising. I say it is governors of border states saying maybe the rest of the nation should try to understand the burden on our US citizens due to failed early decisions by this admin.

Actually, the word “Historic” is way overused these days and is losing its significance.

There were a lot of upsets again in the NFL this Sunday. I wond3r how the bookies are doing.

I actually had several other Tidlert on tap in my notes, but I can’t read my writing. Or maybe my brain can't decipher my code worlds.

A reader just sent a note recommending watching Ken Burns’ new documentary on Holocaust.

The Answer:

Hitch is an early word for snag, popular around the 1400’s. Without a hitch became popular around the early 1800s. It means Without any problems, with perfect execution. Young people tend to avoid old people saws.

Joe Biden just announced that the pandemic is over. So, if you get sick, don't worry about it. Life is good.

Happy Monday, everybody.
