Today's Tids Issue 2,024
(Written 4/30 2013)
Opening Stuff:
This is peak week! That
amazing time each year when everything on God's earth is bursting
maniacally in vivid colors like the crescendo in a magical symphony, The
pinks, yellows, magentas of plants, bushes and fruit trees against the
lime greens of budding forests is a mind numbing sedative for the ills
of the world around us. Suck in in and
relax.
I feel for the citizens
of South Carolina who have as a choice for their congressman a Pelozi
disciple and a liar. I think Dem Stephen Colbert's Sister Elizabeth
Colbert Busch will beat the weakling Mark Sanford.
The Question:
Audrey
Hepburn was certainly a magical actress who brought a pleasant glow to
many a silver screen, Name five of her best movies. Bonus:
Another terrific 50's actress, often touted as Audrey Hepburn-Lite, was
Jean Seaberg who's first film as a heroic historic character launched
her to fame. Name it and one more that was one of the best little
satires of them all.

I've got two big "Finale Episodes"
under my belt and two to go. I thought the Good Wife final was pretty
good, but the end scene, though a surprise and held out hope for next
year, was a little contrived. The Following didn't hold surprises as
usual. I was sad to see FBI agent Diane die. I guess in this program,
you should not get used to anybody surviving. The episode lapsed at
times with too much talk in dark places. Of course the questions abound.
Is Joe dead? Where's Emma? Is she good enough to be next year's evil
leader? Of course, the big question, do we know too much? Can they
effectively recreate that feeling of dread, that evil lurks anywhere and
can strike anytime at a moments notice, against anybody? Next we have
The Americans which I love and Revenge which is totally confusing.
The next big cost for Universities will be the changeover to "Green".
Did you realize that you might
be wearing something that came from the Bangladesh factory where over
300 were killed in a collapse, and over seven
hundred injured, Actually, there are many factories like that one that
produces the clothing for today. Frankly, it seems like clothing has
been produced in low wage sweat shops since the beginning of time, from
the lower East Side of Manhattan to the Philippine slums. Today,
clothing manufacturing is a "starter " industry for third world
countries. In the early development of the US, it was a place for
immigrants to earn a pittance. And, what does a superstar runway model
get for strutting? $10 to 20 Million a year, Forty mil like Tom Brady's
wife. In reality though, the average model outside of NYC makes about
$40K/year, In the big centers like NY, it can rise to $65-$100K. We live
in a tip of the iceberg world.
I think my Spell Check is having a Migraine today. Ouch!
Don't you think that at some level all Hedge funds use insider trading info?
The ideas of Henry David Thoreau has
infected too many young people, causing them to waste too much time
seeking something that cannot exist in a world fullof humans.
I read all of the negative news coming
out about Gina Raimondo (RI Union Jabbing Treasurer) with a jaundiced
eye. I see the facts as reported, but know that the Unions will do
anything to get rid of someone who makes sense; A person with courage
who is smarter they they are.
I've pretty much mastered "i" before "e" except after "c". Now I have to start working on "who" versus "whom".
If I was a Hedge Fund
person I'd write computer programs that searched for insider info and
then acted on it within nano-seconds. "My computer did it."
The Answer:
Hepburn sparkled in Roman Holiday (Oscar), Breakfast at Tiffanys, Sabrina, Gigi, Charade and of course My Fair Lady. Bonus:
Jean Seaberg was Joan Of Arc in Otto Preminger film with a cast of Hall
of Fame actors -- which flopped in the eyes of the critics. Seaberg was
praised though for her work in "The Mouse that Roared". She had a sad
life, abused by
husbands, victimized by the FBI for political beliefs, assaulted by
false rumors, the death of a child and eventually suicide at 40. Her
life could be a movie.
