Today's Tids Issue 3,084
Opening Stuff:
I always find the day
after the first of the month to be the toughest Tids opener, because the first
day is always the easiest. See, I have
no idea of what to say. I’ll tell you though, it is getting tougher and tougher
to be original in these days of sameness. Writing about the inadequacies of the
President has become tedious. Besides, it’s depressing not to be able to
blindly stand behind the leader of our nation. And much of his support he has,
does seem blind to some pretty obvious facts. I could , though, be that voice
in the wilderness crying out for a return to guilt, shame, courteousness, civility,
responsibility, understanding, but there are enormous forces it appears who just
don’t want the oppression of knowing what’s right and wrong. Maybe I’ll just
pour all of my energy into the creation of romantic bubbles where I can reside
in my dreams. But as My father once said
when I mentioned I’d like to move to Vermont and be a farmer: “Don t be stupid.
Don’t walk away from responsibility. Get out there and do something with what
you got.” Besides, I think, I’d have trouble
birthing a calf.
The Dow closed
yesterday at 16,559. It’s up there, a few thousand points beyond the high before
the big crash of ’07. How much further can it go? That realization is the
question now, isn’t it? When you are at uncharted heights, that’s always the
question that brings on the fear, or at least the caution. Ironically,
retirement investors are all of a sudden pouring money into stocks after
sitting nervously on the side lines for about 6 years. Thats another factor of
doom, when the late bloomers start feeding the bubble. I don’t know what to
tell you except that I’m getting the 1999 feeling again.
Now that Putin has
billions flowing into the Ukraine economy he is starting to make his moves.

In case you missed it,
a poll among Main Stream media reporters said that 42% thought Bush and his White
House was open and transparent, While only 5% said that of the “O” regime. Basically
reporters are finding that the Obama White House only talks to itself.
Lot’s of people
are hoping to Mint Julip some coins betting on favorite California Chrome. But,
the chrome-ster may have a problem on the softer Churchill Downs track.
Besides, it’ no fun picking favorites. Now, it would be easy for me to pick the
lowest rated horse, Harry’s Holiday (50-1), because I love holidays with my
grandson Harry. So, my long shot is Ride on Curlin and I’m picking Wicked
Strong. So, there four horses where you can feel confident going the opposite
way.
“Under-a-Cloud” U
just can’t seem to run fast enough to reach the sun. That’s Penn State U, one known
as “Touched –By-An-Angel” U. Through the
great efforts of Coach O’Brian the college seemed to be emerging from the
Sandusky black skies. O’Brian left the team in good shape when he took a
good NFL job. The college now on a better
footing a that an ambitious career coach could appreciate, snagged
Vanderbilt’s
rising star James Franklin. All’s well, right? Well, it seems James
Franklin is
involved with a rape situation at Vandy. Four of his players raped a
woman and
he has been said to have contacted the woman, along with and aide also
slated to go to Penn State. (Note: Franklin said he only contacted the
woman because she was a friend. However, it has been revealed by the
woman that Franklin called
to have her find 15 good looking girls to help in recruiting.) Just what
the
Big Cat in Happy Valley needs. Maybe they could hire Don Sterling as AD
next.
That would work.
Always give 100%,
unless you’re donating blood.
Manufacturing is
booming in America. The new numbers reflect a very nice increase in
exports, and that’s exactly the way you want your economy to work == not the transfer
of US incomes as in the service based economy, but with new dollars flowing in
across the ocean. The leverage of US sweat for now is returning in enhanced
rewards. But, we have a problem-- Skilled people for manufacturing jobs could
stifle growth. A large majority of all of these new jobs being touted by pols
are low paying, low skilled. Manufacturing, on the other hand, can’t find the
quality employees they need to run their sophisticated machines. This actually isn’t new in manufacturing.
Even in the past when skilled employees abound, the manufacturing companies
often ran into steel walls during good times of high plant utilization. The
manufacturing arena, unless professional mangers change their tune, will never
be what it was, but it still presents a good option for dexterous High
Schoolers not interested in University style furtherance. Tech schools are a
much better choice for many with great rewards for the man and the nation.
Actually, the biggest obstacle to reasonable thinking may be the parents.
Isn’t it amazing
how mafia chieftains and general al-around miscreants get cancer just at the time

There’s hope for
peace, Department:
You aren’t going to find two people more polar opposite than
a guy with a 12 inch right foot and 13 inch left foot versus a second guy with
a 13 inch right and 12 inch left. Now, I’m not talking Israel/Palestine here,
but that twosome is 180 degrees apart. Through mutual connections the two learned
of each other. One happened to be super basketball player and US Senator Bill
Bradley. The other an equally stalwart and responsible citizen of the USA, and
currently a college basketball coach. Now obviously there’s was a match made in
heaven and they immediately recognized the opportunity – buy pairs of t12’s and
13’s and then swap. Simple, right. Simple, if they both had the same taste. Along
the way though, two sensible, rational guys found away to agree on styles that would
not belie their character. It’s called compromise, a seldom used device in this
new era of my way or the highway.
The worst time to
have a heart attack is during a game of charades.
Reading Between the Lines Movie Reviews:
--This week it's all about satisfying the anticipation for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Every kid will enjoy with they see as will many adults who like the web swinger and are willing to allow there minds to vacate. There's a lot in this one about"feel", what's it like to be the super hero and the musings of Peter Parker about life and love. But, the realization is always there that he is the only one who can save New York from the ravages of crime, and in the emergence of Electro he finds a foe more powerful than he.
When I mistakenly
type my name at the end of an email with a small “d”, it tends to seem
perverted.

I play this song because
I like it. Maybe I’ve done it before. But it is meaningful. It was played at
memorial service for a young woman who died at a much to early age from breast
cancer. 3 or 400 of her closest friends were standing alongside us in a natural
field of wild flowerers; monarch butterflies fluttering; surrounded by stone
walls of the ages; looking down at the ocean crashing upon the distant beach…and
nothingness beyond, except serene beauty, comforting arms. And, then the music
started, and so did the te
