Today's Tids Issue 3,417
Opening Stuff:
America
is saved! No longer does it have to fret about displaced
millions in Europe or the jobless and declining wages in the USA. The culture
of lowering standards will survive. Yes, tonight Stephen Colbert steps upon the
CBS stage. How great is that! But wait, wait until the unwitting public finds
out that it is Steven Colbert himself and not an image of somebody else, a
clever character. Will the bare and naked real Steven make it? Of course he
will, because late nighters yuck at anything. And Colbert is a pretty darn
smart guy.
So,
Wall Street was shaken on Friday because we had a
mediocre 173,00o private sector added jobs report and they felt that would keep
the Fed full steam ahead in its mission to raise rates. But, did the wizards of
Clueless Lane read the entire report that said wages are as stagnant as an algae
filled pond in late August? Did they happen to notice that the low paying jobs
of added summer help will soon be dismissed and
probably replaced by the low paying jobs of Christmas sales season extra
employees. Now in America we have the little engine that might have, if the
good value added jobs were not moved over seas. Hey, we’re building more
expensive cars, more expensive digital toys, more expensive second homes. But
the giant middle class that breathed incredible life into the heart of main streets
across the mountains and plains is suffering from wage induced COPD. Communities
On Permanent Deathwatch. My heart always aches when I drive through decaying,
formerly beautiful cities, towns and villages and see the ghosts of greatness
past.

What was the first successful European settlement

I
found a lot of humor in yesterday’s headline: “Oklahoma
Game Wardens find hunting blind made of Pot Plants” – especially “Hunting
Blind”.
I
don’t like buying veggies prepackaged in plastic bags.
Somehow I always see little salmonellas swimming around in there. But then, I
don’t like buying preassembled hamburgers in boxes for the same reason.
I
have always been festinated by Stonehenge. So you can bet
that the Tids Archeological team will be hot on the trail of developments about
the newly found super Stonehenge. How exciting is this news.
That
rumble you hear in the background is the hustle and
bustle of the Tids Sports Department as they ready their razor sharp minds for
the 2015 NFL prognostications. As usual, Thursdays will be pickum’ days. Are
you ready?
A
local wag on the radio was commenting how readily the
congressional delegation here in RI and Governor jumped aboard the Hillary
express. The commenter noted that congressman David Ciciline was particularly quick
to hop aboard as he thinks lying is a prerequisite to a successful political
career.
Hey,
score one for Tids integrity. Yesterday it was
banned and returned by a college server.

Here’s
one for the record books if you are keeping score on growing
discourteousness, me-ism in the USA. A friend of mine found herself second in
line behind a car with a NY license plate as a traffic signal changed to red.
The driver in the lead car got out, locked his door and walked towards a bank
taking out his wallet. He preceded to try to gain entry to an ATM. While trying,
the light turned green but the longer line of traffic could now only sit
and wait. My fiend tooter lightly on the
horn and suggested by waving her hand that the driver return to the car. He immediately
gave her a well known gesture combined with few well chosen words. Am I losing
my mind? Do we have to add jerks to the pledge of allegiance to be fair to all?
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 14.
The Hicks
family had moved as fast as they could, carrying everything they had and piling
into their small wooden boats. Fortunately, the clouds grayed the lake surface
as evening approached. All of the Hicks were adept at living in the barren regions
of western Plymouth Colony, so their escape was smooth and coordinated. The
family secured their crafts, unloaded and pulled the boats into small dug out
coves that hid them from passing eyes. The island was a special place with a
depressed center that shielded their activity from the open lake. Richard had
built a lean-to, which up until now was all they needed for fishing expeditions.
But now as he approached he could see they would be spending time building a
larger shelter.
After
they had stowed their stuff, and the younger children snuggled into soft piles
of blankets, Richard pulled Jeremiah outside. “Jeremiah, we have to get in
touch with Joseph. I have some ideas that could get us closer to the tribe,
make us important to them even as the coming conflict threatens settlers like
us.”
Richard
like many of the early colonists had grown wary of the elders in Plymouth.
Their power demands have made it tough not only for many like himself who were
living successfully among the Wampanoag’s, but also those seeking the kind of
freedoms they expected to find at the end of the long ocean journey. Jeremiah
had nodded several times as his father described what he saw happnening. The
conflict between Indians and settlers will be indiscriminant, and alliances
like that of the Hicks family would be mired in the rising hatred.
Jeremiah sat
up as his father turned to him and outlined the plan.
