There just isn’t enough soap to take out those grass stains.

Today's Tids Issue 3,419
Opening Stuff:

I can smell it in the air, just as I did as kid. That is the intertwined aromas of apple trees on the mountain side, aging leaves truing glorious colors and the leather from that pointy ended ball I seemed to carry with me from October to December. I remember those dashes over green fields eluding grasps, lowering shoulders, carrying tacklers – leaping and stretching flat out to snag a long pass with my fingertips; drawing it safely into my body  and curling into a ball before landing and bouncing across mud, dust and grass. I remember the endless energy I had and how I spent those days with the first chills in the air, each day,  from the end of school till well into the darkening evening. Wishing I could grow up faster and play with the big High Scool kids in the fancy uniforms.

And Tonight we will feel it again, we aging warriors in Pigskinville. Tonight the NFL opens the season with two of its very best teams, intense rivals, both with excellent quarterbacks and tough aggressive defenders. It will be a war, with 90% of America rooting for the Steelers against the newly dubbed evil empire -- The New England Patriots. But I will never waver. Our team will rise up against the tyranny of merciless dictator and overcome the anguished cries of the

If you don’t open your investment portfolio statements three months in a row, you’re in a recession.

The Question:
Name the Top all time Quarterbacks.

In a new development which could be quite significant in quelling Wall Street hoodwinks and irresponsible risk taking, the US Justice Department has announced a new emphasis in their prosecution of misdeeds – The investigators will go after individual execs instead of companies. Today, companies pay big but the perpetrators of distrust continue merrily on their way. Nothing happens to the people who authorized or executed shenanigans. Many in the investment world feel that such a strategy is what ahs been needed for a long time, saying it will equalize the playing field between the honest and unethical. Basically it is a strategy that should help build a renewed confidence for a true capitalistic society.

So, did you hear about the kid who flunked Business school because he didn’t cheat on his ethics exam? –Shoe.

Ben Carson is one of those speak softly but carry big solid ideas, guys. Trump doesn’t understand the power of “speak softly” and that’s why Ben is creeping up on him.

It is time! Yes the NFL Pickers are emerging from the dank, dark picking pit, bleary eyed, but full of energy for the new season. So let’s go. The top contests are Steelers at a Pats team with a questionable O-Line, Indy at a revitalized Buffalo, Mighty Seattle in a war with defense tough St. Louis, Baltimore at Denver, NY Jints at Dallas and a coming on strong, Minn at a San Fran with a new coach and new questions. I’m going with my heart to pick the Pats in a battle and then Buffalo, St, Louis, Denver, Dallas (No Last Q give-aways from Romo) and Minnesota. I gotta pick Green Bay over da Bears in close one and Houston over a good KC team. The Jets say they are great, so I’m believing them over my personal favorite the Browns. I’m going Miami over Washington, Carolina over Jax, Arizona over NO, San Diego over Detroit, Tampa Bay over Tenn, Oakland surprising a disjointed Cinn and the Eagles even without Tim Teebo beating Atlanta.

Apple was not judged kindly yesterday after they introduced new products that may have been better but looked the same as the old wonders. Many were concerned that the new hope for excitement was based on a $99 pencil for drawing on the tablet. The collective outcry, “That’s It?”, resulted in a big downsizing of the net worth.

Historic and Profound Judgment, Department:
In case you hadn’t noticed the Repubs just yesterday won big victory over the 0-Admin. You certainly didn’t hear on the Nightly News broadcasts that a US District Court Judge Rosemary Collyer ruled against the Obama admin ‘s motion to dimiss the case of the US House of Representatives against US President Obama’s signature health car law. House attornet John Turley called the judgment profound and historic saying, “…the house may now be heard on an issue that drives to the very heart of the constitutional system – the controlof the legislative branch over the power of the purse.” Stay tuned.

I think I’m going to write a book on consillience.

BTW, Carley responded to Trumps childishness saying that he must be feeling the pressure of my creeping up in the polls.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 13.
It was four in the morning when Jermiah pushed his canoe quietly into the watery mirror reflecting the setting moon. It was about as black as it could be during a moonlit night, just before the morning glow on the horizon; before his presence might stir the birds and animals.
Richard and Jeremiah had hatched a plan last evening that Jeremiah would go to the Wampanoag summer camp to hopefully be able to meet Elizabeth. His mother had just stared with frighten mother’s eyes as they men told of the need to reacquire the trust of Joseph. Both agreed that Joseph hadn’t changed, but was only acting through blood. Jeremiah was sure that Elizabeth’s feeling for him had not diminished. That she, if he could meet her alone, could be convinced to be their intermediary. The men didn’t talk about what might happen if her son would be caught. But, she knew.
The passage across the lake was swift. Jeremiah felt his heart racing but it was a good feeling. He was young enough not to be cowed by fear of things that have not happened. He was thinking, planning, preparing as he drove the canoe south, several miles below the entry to their homestead. The Hicks knew their land well, which gave Jeremiah the confidence to move with the same stealth as his naïve friends.
He finally saw the point of land that hid a small cove. The sun was beginning its morning dance across the ripples of an awakening lake. Soon he would be a silhouette for all eyes to see -- Normally a comfortable sight of an early hunter or fisherman. Today, he might be the prey. He pulled his canoe into the cove, jumped to a rock, and hauled it into a small open area in the bushed. He heard in the distance the whinney of what he hoped was the Howland farm horses.

The Answer:
There are as many lists of Top 10 QB’s as there are dimples on a football. And most of the lists don’t include a lot of old guys, because people generally only vote for what they can see. I’ll give you a couple of lists. The first has Joe Montana on top followed by Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, John Elway, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Johnny “U” Unitas, Steve Young, Terry Bradshaw and Drew Brees. What, no Roger Staubach – I’d take him over Dan Marino in a heartbeat. Top Ten List number two has Farve at #10 and moving up to one we see Staubach, Young, Marino, Otto Graham, Sammy Baugh, Bart Starr, Montana, and Unitas Marino over Manning and Brady and Elway? I guess I never did get Marino.

The growing consensus is that apple fans will have the last laugh.

How trite have the tids become.
