Today's Tids Issue 3,591
Opening Stuff:
I
ache when I hear of friends ailing; even more so when it’s
some consuming disease ravaging the body. My heart seems to feel the pain of
those daily battles, wishing I was there to at least lift spirits. I often think,
how could I ever pick the perfect words to say what might offer comfort. And
the words, the greatest words, all seem so inadequate. Maybe all a friend needs
to hear is that, “you have been my great friend, and part of the good things that
are in me is because of you.” Maybe just being a friend is more than any words.
Who
is that person in my Fitbit, and what is she going to do to
me.
NCIS
Begins Tonight the Final Two Episodes Featuring Tony
DiNozzo. Will he be killed, shoot Gibbs for all the ear slaps or ride into the
sunset with Ziva?
The
Question:
As a young boy I learned that after cod declined,
fishermen went after haddock. And that when the haddock stopped biting, they
went after what other white fish? Bonus:
Name the state (And the town for extra points) where the golden spike was
hammered in to connect the east and west in the first intercontinental
railroad.

I
believe you’ll find the missing Clinton Server Tech emails
right under the Rose Law Firm Records. Maybe Rosemary Wood could find them. Oh,
wait, that was another case of missing information. Jeez, I get all of these
suspect criminal politicians mixed up.
Just
when you think you’ve got the world by the tail,
along comes something new in social media.
The
Voice last night had some nice, enjoyable performances.
In no special order, I liked Adam, Laith, Hannah and Mary Sarah best. Shalyah
gave it her all and brought down the house with a dramatic performance. Nick
will get panned by critics, but I believe he will stay, and I do think he is pretty
talented even though I personally don’t like his style of singing or song choices.
Alisan, who has dominated, seems to be as screechy lately as many others. She
is at her best with thoughtful songs. Brian was probably the best last night, at
least according to some. Paxton is always on and tries hard, but now we are at
the stage where somebody has to go, and he could be the man. In case you are
interested the ITune sales rankings at this moment are headed by Adam (#12), and
followed by Laith (15), Mary Sarah (17), Hannah (21), Brian (22), Alisan (28) and
Shaylah (38).
In
case you missed it, it was reported yesterday that
FaceBook used left leaning editors to override allegories and block news with a
conservative leaning. That was quite apparent in their “Trending” section where
liberal, or democratic views were moved to the top. Of course what credibility did
FaceBook ever have in the first place?
One
of the best views of friendship was spoken well in
the movie Waking Ned Devine.
LGBT
Aside, I like the way Governor McCrory of North Carolina
positioned the states and private businesses against possible misuse of the
Civil rights laws. I’m watching the Obama exit parade, and is stepping closer
and closer to unconstitutional overreach with each passing decision.
RI
just has to stop hiring state legislator brother-in-laws
as bus drivers. (Note to Non-Ri’ers, there have been several serious bus
accidents on the State’s city streets during the past 5-8 months, and it seems
to be happening more often.)
You
may like to read the opinions of close to Obama White
House Aide Ben Rhodes who has some serious insights on the selling of the “Iran
Deal” and the ineptitude of the admin’s foreign policy team (including Hill)
who he dubbed “The Blob”. The White House is in full spin mode. Be prepared to
be mind-boggled.
Yesterday
I promised to be Politics free for the rest for the week,
and one reader wrote to say, he wasn’t interested in bland. I have to report
the news, but I’m trying to be minimal. Being minimal in a world that is
exploding is like a government committee.
A
survey asks people to name things like the last five Oscar
winners, the last five World Serous or NFL champs, stuff like that. The correct
answers were sporadic at best. But when asked to name friends from early ages,
and perhaps coaches and teachers and relatives, everybody lights up with a great
story. In other words, most of what is prominent in the society is just noise in
the background of real life.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 60.
Nancy and
Jared had left their Newport hide-away around six in the morning. They had to
avoid several robotized trash trucks to navigate out of their narrow streets.
But the rest of the trip was effortless, often magnificently beautiful. Close to seven they
found a parking place in downtown Bristol near the local coffee shop. They sat
in the car, looking around the area. It looked
like any other small town with people waking and trying figure out what the day
might bring. These days, it was always a true mystery for the pair in the car.
Jared was
till analyzing all of the information that Nancy had stuffed into is head and
he kept on coming up with the same conclusion, the Howland affair was huge and
much more than a small town discussion over land ownership.
After
about five minutes, they saw a car drive up and park around the corner from
them. Fred got out of the car, but the two waited a few minutes before getting out
and following. It was beautiful morning, and the eastern sun light bouncing off
the smooth waters of the harbor made it special It’s too bad Jared thought that
we won’t be dancing together in the streets cheek to cheek. He looked over at
that face he has come to love. But, he could try.
Fred wa seated when the two walked in, and
the fantasy of dancing with Nancy in his arms fled instantly. He was capable of
being serious.
“How are
you feeling, Fred,” Nancy opened.
“The pains
feel sharper now that you two are back in
my life! They looked at each other and then fred started laughing.
The
Answer:
I used to sit on the docks for hours in Eastern Cape
Cod watching boat after boat pull up and unload cod and a lot of haddock. But,
I was told by some older friends and people on the docks who knew, that Pollack
would be the next big fish as it was harder and harder to find the first two. That
was in 40’s after the war, and it is happening again today. Bonus: The Golden Spike was hammered in
at Promontory Utah. Let the train whistles blow!
As
we sit in our topsy-turvy world, it’s nice to know
you can always find comfort withn a friend. Be nice.
