Today's Tids Issue 3.596
Opening Stuff:
There
was great movie with great music, and it scared the
crap out of me – “The Man With The Golden Arm”. It was about a drummer who couldn’t
shake heroin. I see the same real desperation revealed in news snippets about
the current era victims of that ravaging scourge, that with new modern drugs
added, is even more of a killer today. I have always felt deeply for these seemingly
hopeless souls who can’t get out from under this devouring disease. And have nothing
but pure hatred and disgust for the dealers who won’t let them escape, won’t
let them fulfill recovery
This
younger generation goes to gyms, jogs and runs, lifts
weights and creates monster muscle bodies -- male and female -- and what do
they crush? – Paper thin aluminum beer cans. My generation of gravy eaters and
sugary drinks had to deal with solid, thick skinned steel cans which made
crushing them a real mark of achievement! And when we were finished with cans,
we tore phone books in half! (Mom never liked that.) There was a lot of muscle
in our flab.
The
TSA catastrophe is just one more reason why you don’t
want Big Central Government running private Enterprise activities.
I
believe also that people are dismissing the
urgency of having a more conservative person in the White House who could pick
the next Supreme Court Justice. Trump can be voted out in 4 years, but the next
justice who could switch the balance to the left will be there for at least
twenty.
The
Question:
When was the Movie Man with The Golden Arm made?
Who was in the cast? Who was the director?

Some
of the stuff the opposition is digging up to embarrass Trump is inane at best. Why is
there a mini-uproar over that incident about Trump playing the part of his publicist
25-30 years ago. Who cares? The problem is that Trumpster responded with I never
met him, which was a stupid thing to do. You should never say never to a
reporter. He should have said, So?, and walked away. Why is media focused on
this non-event in a way they never were when the Secretary of State did not respond
to the pleading of the Ambassador in Benghazi. Politics sucks.
The
Voice was excellent last night and the prize was high –
only four of the 8 who performed will survive after tonight’s voting show. My
favorites were Adam Wakefield and Hannah Houston. Once again Mary Sarah sung
out some real good country. One of the better singers all season long, Brian Bautsta,
may have been the best pure singer of the night. Alisan (TV Child Star Curley
Sue) who a lot of people anointed the winner early, was good but not great. Her
voice is always good, but sometimes her performances aren’t. Shaylah opened the
show with another of her bring–down-the-house efforts. This 16 Yo. not a perfect
singer (Yet) but she gives it her all. Hannah Houston, another fave of mine
also was very good. Laithe another one I root for, missed it for me with song
choice. Paxton, did very good job too.
There were 4 duets with Alisan-Adam best to my ears, and Paxton-Shaylah next.
Hannah-Laith and Mary Sarah-Brian were poorly matched and they didn’t work. But
Now we aren’t looking at talent as much as fan bases. Alisan has one. Mary
Sarah sure has country, but Adam who has done well overall has plenty of country
too. Hannah seems to have a good following. Lots of people love Laithe. Brian
is a good singer but I don’t think he has drilled into a broad audience.
Shaylah may have. And Paxton often surprises, but not today. I got to pick Alisan,
Adam, Mary Sarah and Hannah or Laithe as the final four.
The
Voice had great night on ITune sales with these in the Top Ten of all songs downloaded
nationally: Adam Wakefield #2, Alisan Porter #4, Mary Sarah #5, Hannah Houston
#6 and Brian Bautista #7. Of the rest we had Laithe Al-Saadi #11, Shaylah
Fearing #23 and Paxton Ingram #75. That could be a clue to the national voting,
but it really depends upon which fans of whom are most charged up.
How
much do you think al-Qaida is enjoying the long lines,
delays and frustrated Americans at airports?
By
the way, The CBS news segment about the heroin/opiate/whatever-you-can-find
scourge showed the subject buying drugs from a dealer. Why didn’t the producer/reporter/cameraman
call the police to have him arrested?
You
can always tell when the days are nicer and
weather is warmer, and people are strolling hand in hand on soft sandy beaches
or upon shady green comforting woodland trails. Tids readership goes down.
A
lot of people in the media and academia think they’re too smart
or too sophisticated to listen to trump. How would they explain it to their
cocktail party friends.
I
Love Tradition, Department:
Court Tennis is what Henry the 8th (In between wives)
and other monarchs played when tennis first came into being. It’s almost like
the predecessor of Paddle Tennis as it is played off all surfaces. It is so
rare that there are only 6 courts in the US, and one, a magnificent historical looking
place, is here. Part of the tradition is that each team makes their own balls.
Today is the start the World Championships. I doubt if it will be on Sports
Center tonight! But it is very cool.
Those
7 unions in the headlines could be Trump voters. Think
about it. Just because they are Democrat doesn’t mean they want to follow the
environmentalist platform of Hill and Bern…when jobs are at stake. Trump gives
this segment a choice. Too many workers have been burned by the environmental
regulations.
The
Answer:
This movie was made in 1955, you know back in that
perfect time. Otto Preminger directed a remarkable cast of Frank Sinatra (Who was
terrific as the addict), Kim Novak (His Lover), Eleanor Parker (Wheelchair
bound wife), Arnold Stang (the perfect weasel con man and Sinatra pal) and
Darren McGavin (Pusher).
One
of the great elements of the movie was the musical score;
an Elmer Bernstein jazz score that did almost as well as the movie in album
sales. Remember Albums? https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=You+Tube+Music+from+The+Man+With+the+Golden+Arm&ei=UTF-8&hspart=vz&hsimp=yhs-vz&type=verizon_access%2Fverizon_dsl
