Today's Tids Issue 3,605
Opening Stuff:
The
roar of the engines from the Old Brickyard tells me it’s
time to trim back the forsythia.
I
say that football coaches aren’t winning unless tey
developing their players into decent, civilized members of society. This big
money win at all costs business is way out of hand, and it is the coach who has
to reel it back in. When I played, football players were generally made fun of because
of diminished brain power in granite heads. But today, there is nothing funny about
the new stereotype of rapists and thugs. Like in earlier times when all
football players weren’t lunkheads, it is positively certain that today all of
the players aren’t rapists and abusers. But, unfortunately, society tends to classify
by the lowest common denominator. And this current wave of anything goes as
long as you win feeds that lower dimension. I have always felt that winning in
any sphere of activity should always occur within the guidelines of a civilized,
lawful society. Winning within guidelines of honesty and integrity should be
the measure of business people as well as coaches. You can build successful
teams without thugs just as you can run successful businesses without criminals.
I
often criticize new government intrusions like the
mandated new light bulbs. But I have to say that the new slow to illuminate bulbs
that ease you into the light make for a much more soothing wakeup in the morning.
Then I remember how much I hate mandates, and the angst returns.

When
Obama and other eager politicians get into their “I’m
bringing back jobs to America” speeches they always make reference to the fact
that the USA has the highest productivity of any country in the world. Productivity
is generally defined as doing more with less people. Can you say robots?
Think
how great a society would be if we had no need for a
Justice Department.
Things
are looking up for all of those who think a tattoo is a
great thing for today, but not so much for tomorrow. Apparently they have come
up with a new Hi-Tech ink which is reversible when the skin sags or when the unblotched
look regains favor in society. A start-up company called “Ephemeral” is working
on two products: One where the ink begins to disappear after a period of time;
the second for a removal solution which a tattoo artist can use to retrace a
tattoo for removal. While we are on the tattoo front, there are some HI-Tech Bioelectic
centric tattoos that could be like a glucose monitoring system or a substitute
for all pass words; they could be like the effort from The chaotic Moon Company
of Austin Texas, a tattoo that measures all body stresses and non-conformities.
All of these new “wearables” (Be aware Fitbit and Apple watch) are also
reversible.
Maybe
touching tattoos will be the new way of finding soul mates.
Nah, I’d rather look into beautiful eyes
I
wish Brahms wrote more symphonies.
Once
again the pro-illegal immigration crowd have successfully
labeled anti-illegal immigration advocates
as against all immigrants. Which is entirely false. (Except of course for the
few innately bigoted.) And the media, which should be the great clarifier in
the nation, lets them get away with it. Legal immigrants are harmed by the
innate lawlessness of illegals playing the get-free-money game. The US Treasury
is hurt by the liberalized give-away laws so successfully abused in the illegal
immigration world. And, it isn’t just the US. In Britain, the citizens there
woke up this week to learn of a record influx of 330,000 new immigrants. And what
has just changed there, is that now more Brits are behind opting out of the EU.
Immigration in our diminishing globe is inevitable. But it must be controlled or
everybody loses.
A
political observer notes that the people who are saying
Trump would be a bad president are the same people who said Obama would be a
good president.
Bristol
RI is about as picturesque a town as there is anywhere;
a town with great sailing and boat building tradition. It has also become the
haven for chic new restaurants. But, I have to say, that the old one, SS Dion,
is still my favorite; with well prepared fresh seafood and a great diverse menu;
and with no pretense.
Nearly
70,000 fans showed up in Philly Saturday for the start of
NCAA Lacrosse championships. Lacrosse continually proves it I stenup and coming
hot new sport in HS and College. Our local team Brown U lost 15-14 to #1
Maryland in overtime. The star of Brown, the probable choice for the best
player in the land award played in intense pain on a broken foot. It takes guts
to be a winner.
Hockey
players have the highest graduation rates of all college
athletes.
A
RI woman state legislator caught with her hand in the cookie
jar said loudly so all could hear,” I’m ashamed of this journalism stuff going
on in this state.” How funny is that! Actually that seems to be the new theme
coming from our den of rascals, “The citizens should be ashamed because their
newspaper is telling the truth about our dastardly deeds.”
