For the veterans of all wars -- we always remember.
I
have this photo on my phone. It is of my grandson Harry,
standing tall, at attention; grim faced. His hand is firmly pressed against his
brow in salute as the veterans of American wars march by on Main Street in his
small town up in Maine. One of the veterans’ broke ranks, came over and shook
his hand. Harry smiled as he probably has never smiled before. They talked,
then they waved, I’ll see ya, like new found friends. Harry resumed standing in
salute, never budging until the entire parade had passed. We should all remember
the sacrifices and courage of our Veterans this day. Like a child, With an
uncluttered mind.
I
don’t think Google is as productive as it has been
in the past. Too many advertisers sucking off key words in searches muddy the
results.
There’s
a lot of Good Natured People in this world who sometimes we
will miss because they don’t match our image of GNP’s. Improve your GNP performance. Listen before you

I
liked the words of Keith Urban at the CMA show last
night: “I think it is just time for a recalibration of the past. Things have
been a certain way for a long, long time, and I think you are seeing a changing
of the tide for that.” Now those are words that any advocate could take to
support their agenda. But to me, I believe he was referring to the grinding normalization
of bad behavior through lenient court decisions, Hollywood and other mass media
that can infect gullible minds. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. Urban used to those
words to tell us why he was excited about anew song of his decrying the
Weinstien syndrome – you know, the normalization of disgusting behavior.
The
pickers are holding their own against the national competition.
Last week we improved again bringing the mighty staff in the pickum’ dungeon to
90-42 (68%) There are three posers this week: Minn at Washington, San Diego at
Jax and yes, the battle of the losers, NYG at San Fran. Teddy Bridgewater is back
in Minn who seem to be improving weekly. But last week, The Skins were
impressive winning in that threatening 12th man stadium in Seattle. I
am just liking Minn right now. Jax has been also playing very well, and Bortles
is improving. I have to go Jax. The Jints are really looking down. SF has
looked good at times and I think this is their breakthrough game. The next
toughest pick is Dallas at Atlanta. How good is Atlanta? That is one tough
question. I’ll stick with Dallas. I’m picking Seattle to bounce back against a tough
Arizona, Bears over old rival Packers and Detroit over the Browns. Also. Mariota
has his juices flowing again, so I go Titans over Cinn. I like Pitt over Colts,
Rams over Texans and Carolina over Miami. The Pats are back after vacay, and
the Mile-High city over the years has not been nice to them. But you know me. I’m
a stupid homer.
Shakespeare:
“Brevity is the soul of wit.” I guess the Pickum’ Segment will never feel
funny.
Happy
Anniversary to the Great Northeastern Blackout.
That’s when New York and the six states in New England went dark one night during
rush hour. I happened to be at a Boston computer company for a job interview at
the time. We just continued as if nothing happened, my eyes following his lit cigarette.
It was grid failure, which now could be replicated by a diligent hacker. It was
humorous for a time in 1965, but will be downright scary under an attack by an
enemy hacker.
There
are 33,000 coffee shops in America. That means there are a
lot of awfully jittery people walking around
A
lot of things work pretty darn well until politics is injected.
Then rationality, morality and ethics flow down the drain. We’ve been draining
the moral conscience of America for decades. That’s what Keith Urban’s words
were about to me.
Black
coffee is an undeniable super elixir first thing in the morning.
But, normally around mid-morning I have a couple of swigs of a nice cold diet
coke to get rid of the lingering old coffee taste.
We
deem you a ham sandwich. You are guilty. The grand Jury was
established as far back as the times Of William the Conqueror in 1066. It
became a part of British law and was put into US law as a protection for regular
citizens against over-zealous prosecutors. But there is ample evidence of that
GJ losing its effectiveness as a protective group. Mass instant communications combined
with new societal inclination to rush to judgment can turn indictment in to
conviction before mustard gets on the sandwich. The SC has been and is looking in
the idea of Grand Juries to with regards to protection under the law. But in the
case of politics, Guilty as charged comes way before proper adjudication.
Urban’s
words may also have included views on mass hysterical
social networks like Facebook. Former President of that huge enterprise, Sean
Parker: “God only knows what it’s doing to our children’s brains.” He is just
one of several tech creators who now talk about their disillusionment of
products they helped create. Another exec, this one from Google says you keep
people hooked by turning the smart phone into a slot machine – the reward:
Response and flattery. Yes, the creative minds of some software engineers are
like the grains in an Opioid tablet, only seeking to maintain addiction. This is
a story to watch.
