And yet shall it wave.

Today's Tids Issue 4,213
For never forgetting:

My heart never stops feeling for those who had loved ones condemned by hateful murderers on the day the buildings crashed. I never forget the sight of planes flying into the daily lives of  regular people; the sudden inferno; the horror of images of bodies falling. I see it today as I did that September 11th morning. I feel the love interrupted of all heartbroken survivors; of wives, husbands, of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, and all the children who barely knew. I feel it today as I did on that awful quiet morning when whining engines pierced serene skies. Why are we fractured. Why can’t that unity return.

What kids don’t know is how important memories of them become to those getting older. How the ancients look forward to the hugs and smiles, the “remember when’s” -- of children and grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Life’s connection never ends. It becomes more secure.

One of our bigger problems in this country are people talking who have little understanding of what they are talking about.

Did you hear about the procrastinator who put his smoke detector on snooze alarm?

If I was a member of some tribe in years gone by, I doubt if I would be out there with the others dancing to the beat of the drums. More likely I’d be sitting quietly in a tent, listening, thinking, creating the illusion that I was smart. Have a problem, see the old guy in the tent.

Cerebral versus Visceral, Department:
From what I am seeing, it appears that TV crime dramas lately are moving away from solving mysteries to human side stories and lots of fiery car chases, explosions and confusing endless gun battles.  Intelligently following clues to find criminals has become secondary to special FX and social ills.

The Question:
Name the top TV actresses who never won an Emmy. Bonus: Some TV programs are well known because of excellent supporting casts. Name ten of your favorites.   (i.e. Ethel Mertz with Lucy). Extra Bonus: Which President signed the first civil rights bill?

An Organization is a church piano business.

New statistics are saying that American blue-collar jobs are on the rise, which is a very good thing – not only for the Country’s balance, but for the people themselves. Too many have thought that college was the only option. More and more are learning that post HS skill schooling and development is much more beneficial to an economy and most important – life satisfaction.

How many of today’s aspiring models and actresses looking for a career edge will attempt to take on the appearance of Meaghan Markle. It happens every time.

Obit: Nike (1964-2018) died of Colin cancer.

The Houston Astros of this past weekend in Boston looked exactly like the Houston Actros who trounced the Red Sox in the playoffs last year. Woe is us.

On a list of the top 806 actresses, the great Joanne Woodward is only #99. She was quite the force in the 50’s and 60’s. Amazing what people forget when publicists fade away. The Top Ten are Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchette, Katherine, Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis, Vivian Leigh, Helen Mirren Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Jodi Foster. O well, here’s the next ten – Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Kate Winslet, Kathy Bates, Emma Thompson, Susan Sarandon, Julie Andrews, Glenn Close, Sally Field and Jessica Lange.

Provision: Favoring sight.

A lot of Rhode Island observers say that we finally need to stop voting for the same ole’ politicians and refresh our state legislature with new thinking. However, from what I’m seeing, the new thinking candidates all look like extreme “progressives”. Which is exactly what this Union dominated state does not need. Woe is us.

One of the differences between the Tiger of today and the Tiger of yore is that today there many more young players who can beat him at his own excellent game. And, his surges to the finish don’t have the leaders fearfully looking over their shoulders.

The word “Treason” is being carelessly bandied about by both anti-Trumpers and Trump himself. That’s the latest trend in the new smear politics –using big words that sound scary that everybody thinks they understand and usually don’t. In fact, 69% of Americans think that coordinating with Russia to win an election is treason, while it without question isn’t. Treason has a very specific definition. In fact, the framers of the Constitution took special care to exactly define it. Treason (Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution): “Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort.” Note, it was so narrowly defined because in the ages before the USA ,“treason” was used as a means of suppressing political dissent and punishing political opponents for crimes as trivial as speaking ill of the king. Treason is the most specific crime in our legal system and the most difficult to prove. There is a lot of crap among ideological utterances these days. And unfortunately, many who utter rely upon the ignorance of masses.

And kids wonder why they have to go to school.

BTW, “enemies” as defined in the Constitution are only those countries against which Congress has declared war, or otherwise authorized use of force.

Baseball is coming down to crunch time, so I and many always try to remember how to figure the magic number. Here’s a formula: G + 1 - W1 - W2 = MN. Where “G” is total of games in season (162) plus 1 (To eliminate ties) minus games won by first place team minus games lost by second place team. For example, today the American League East this year would be: 162 + 1 - 98 - 54 = 11. Any combo of Sox wins and Ya, Ya, Ya losses that adds to 11 gives the Sox a clinch.

A political wag said yesterday, “If Trump is doing so bad as President, why is Obama trying to take credit?”

The Answer:
Number One among excellent actresses who have never own an Emmy is Malissa McBride (Walking Dead). She is followed by Katey Segal (Sons of Anarchy), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Mary Steenburgen (Multiple), Mary McDonnell (Closer), Alyson Hannigan (Buffy), Amy Poehler (Parks and Rec), Angela Lansbury (Murder She Wrote), Connie Britton (Nashville and others) and Courtney Cox. Kerry Russell was listed as 18, and I would have put her near the very top for not having an Emmy for The Americans. Bonus: While Lucy and Ethel Mertz were special, I would give my nod for Art Carney as Norton alongside Jackie Gleason. Don Knotts as Barney Fife also has to be on the top of tis bunch. Of course, there is J. Daily who dies this week, so great on I Dream of Jeannie and Bob Newhart. How about Bob Denver as Maynard Krebs on Dobie Gillis before Gilligan. Were there better characters than those on Mary Tyler Moore like Ed Azner, Betty White and Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern. Seinfeld was even better when George Costanza showed up in that apartment.  I loved Barbara Feldon as Don Adam’s Agent 99 and John Travolta and pals on Kotter. There were too many on M*A*S*H to count – like Radar, Hot Lips, Trapper and Colonel Henry Blake. One of my must watch favorite groups was Hogan’s Heroes with John Banner as Sgt. Schultz and Werner Kemperer Colonel Klink. Dick Van Dyke was loaded too with Rosemarie and Morey Amsterdam and many more including MTM. The more I think the more I could go on. I’m sure you have your own favorites. Extra Bonus: It was good old Ike who signed the first Civil Rights law. Yes, he the Five Star General, the President during the benign, lovable fifties.

I will never forget.
