For L-o-v-e:
We’re
six days into September and I haven’t found my cloud. You
know, the peaceful place of reveries and delicious feelings. When life loosens
and romance soars. When the deadly drone of news fades and eyes look deeply into
receptive eyes and see glowing hearts. When you want to stand, arms entwining
arms as salty waters ripples around ankles buried in sand. I’m waiting for my
cloud, so I may flow beyond the
anger, feel the beauty of pure love..
Any
news commentator who knocks Judge Kavanaugh for not
answering how he would vote on a given subject has no credibility. Any judge
who answers how he will vote on a subject before hearing arguments should not
be a judge.

You
probably didn’t see it yesterday, but the smile on
Brandon Phillips face after he hit the game winning homerun that allowed Boston
to come from behind to beat Atlanta was one that would light up the world, no matter
how deep the darkness may have become.
The
Question:
Who are the all-time home run leaders among
pitchers? (Not including Babe Ruth). Bonus:
Who was Charles Guiteau and Leon Czolgosz?

Are
you ready? It’s…Pick ‘em Time! Tonight we have Atlanta at SB
Champs Philly. I’m going with the Falcons. Philly beat the Pats, but gave up
miles of yardage. I think it is payback time for Atlanta against a team who may
be a little too cozy with the recent past. This week has plenty of posers, In
fact, all the games except perhaps GB at Chi and NO at TB look like they can go
either way. So, I’m either going to start out good this year or incredibly bad.
I’m picking Balt over Buff, Tenn over Miami and Minn over Garopolo’s San Fran.
New Orleans looking like areal contender should smother TB. I’m choosing KC over
the Chargers, Arizona sneaking by the Skins ( I love saying “the Skins”),
Carolina over Dallas and Seattle over Denver. The Pack should take care of da
Bears in a good season opening rivalry game, Detroit to start out winning over
the J-e-t-s and in very good game and the LA rams nipping John Gruden’s
Raiders. Jacksonville is supposed to be a contender, but I’m picking a
hopefully rebounding Giants at home. Indy and the Bengals is also an
interesting game. How far back is Luck, and were the Colts only bad last year because
he wasn’t there. Cinncy is a mystery too, but I’ll take them. (Am I biased
against Indy? Probably) I am also going out on a limb picking a big potential
upset with the Browns at home sneaking by the Steelers. I’m going to pick my NE
Pats over the Houston Texans, and probably shouldn’t. Fans can feel when
something is missing, and I do…but I’m banking on our defense being much better
this year, and capable of corralling the elusive just back from injury Deshaun
Watson.
You
have to wonder why the Dems keep complaining about not having
enough info on Kavanaugh when they have already said the will not vote for him
regardless. What ever happened to “Deliberative Body”?
People
who keep their nose to the grindstone could lose face.
Did
you know that “Bank Jugging” means thieves waiting
for people with cash going to or leaving from bank and then mugging them for the
money. Do not have bulge in pants when leaving a bank.
When
you promise to drain the swamp you gotta expect
that swamp denizens will do anything to keep their quagmire going.
Have
you noticed that “Subways” in your town are disappearing?
There was a time when every contractor who built yet one more strip mall relied
on the chain to take a spot.
Four
of my favorites were among the five who made it through to the
final round on AGT. The fifth, Duo is Us I enjoyed but hadn’t really expected
to sneak in. The comedian did and I should have guessed it as the judges like comedians
– especially bad ones.
In
the days of yore when courage and integrity was the
national norm, a person like the one who wrote the anonymous Op-Ed piece for
the Times would have stood up bravely in public and resigned. Now they want the
cake and they want to eat it too.
Duh
headlines of the Day: “Dems Attack Kavanaugh”; “Lebron Stands
With Nike”; Trump Blasts NY Times”.
(Brandon
Phillips in the Tidlet above is a nice story. The 37 year
old Brandon had been released from MLB at the end of last year and sat at home
during the first half of this season. He was picked up by the Sox and worked
his way back in the minors. Yesterday was his debut return game and he did what
he did. Now, that my friends why his smile as broad as Commonwealth Ave and as
bright as the nonday sun bouncing off The Charles. Feel it.)
The
Answer:
Oddly, on junior baseball teams like Little League the
pitchers are invariably the best hitters. But in the majors, that innate talent
seems to disappear. But not for Wes Farrell (37) and Bob Lemon (35), the two top
Pitcher/home run hitters. The rest in order are Warren Spahn, Red Ruffing, Earl
Wilson, Don Drysdale, John Clarkson, Bob Gibson, Carlos Zambrano and Walter
“Big Train” Johnson. The rest with more than 20 career home runs are Jack
Stivetts, Milt Pappas and Dizzy Trout. Cy Young hit 18. The active player with
the most HR’s is Madison Bumgamer with17. Bonus:
Just about everybody knows who shot Abe Lincoln and JFK, but the killers of James
Garfield and William McKinley, Czolgosz and Guiteau, are not on the tips of everybody’s
tongues.
BTW,
spellcheck doesn’t even recognize Czolgosz.
Interesting:
William McKinley was shot in early September and Czolgosz was executed on
October 29. What are the chances we’ll ever see that kind of swift justice in
the future? None.
It’s
tough to write about love when everybody is protesting
something.
Here’s
beautiful little song about love. It’s the tune I’m singing today:
