Today's Tids Issue 4,466
Trust in us:
Well, waddaya know…it’s
September. Just like that. Beautiful September is here with us. In addition to
the cool, and flourishing of fall flowers, I’m looking to enjoy a spurt in the stock
markets. Football is well underway in ivy covered stadiums, or should I say
today, glistening temples of athletic department Corporations. September, it
seems, brings a change like no other month. It heralds the comfort of the cool
down. it refocuses attrition of relaxed minds back into schools and factories
and offices. And we pause, to remember a change that awoke Americans from
lethargy. 911, the day when senseless battles in the rest of the world closed
in here, and innocents died. My generation never forgot Pearl Harbor and
hopefully newer generations will never forget the inhuman horror of September 11.
The University of Michigan’s
ongoing Consumer Sentiment for the US has been revised lower for August to
89..9, well below the previous month ‘s number of 98. 4. So while I dream of a
new market steadiness at upward levels, this news plus the potential effects from
the new possible stifling tariff on US imports from China, could stymie the enthusiasm
ant appoint when we need a burst in consumer passion. (To put it all in perspective,
Consumer Confidence in the US has averaged 86.58 Index points from 1952 to
2019, with the low being 51.7 in 1980 and the high 111.4 in 2000.) September should
be very interesting. If you find this kind of stuff interesting.
In their effort to make a deal
with the NFL Players Association to gain two more regular season games, will the
owners offer to permit players to smoke pot without repercussions. Except of course,
those from the inability to think clearly in crucial play situations.
As I think back
on a hot summer, I have to say that the two hottest places on earth are black
top municipal parking lots, and sand traps.
The Question:
Reach a back into reality folk lore to tell me, who
was Mary Ann Nichols. Bonus: Everybody knows that someday the west coast
will split an fall into the ocean after the “Big One”. Right? Buit, there have been
some terribly destructive quakes in the East Coast too. Name the top five.

You have to wonder if after
watching the Queen of England give the Ok to Shuts down parliament if DST was tankan
if I could shut down congress, “Impeachment, no problem.” Nah, he wouldn’t think
of that.
I have noticed that in
this City of Weddings, there aren’t so many on Labor Day. Hmmm.
When the world seems dire
and the clouds of irrational friction and hate blacken, I dive into a melody by
Saint Sans to feel the chills up my spine and only love in my heart; I see that
there is light, and always the exhilaration of hope.
“Banning straws
won’t actually keep California Democrats form sucking.” –Ben Shapiro (Ben
was a Jewish boy born and raised in LA, who had an early fascination with politics.
A national columnist, he wrote books __ “Brainwashed”, “Primetime Propaganda”
and “Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences
Americans.”)
Notre Dame this year
has to meet it’s contractual agreement with the not so powerful ACC Football conference
by playing five league games (As part of their deal to play in the very
powerful ACC Basketball league and other Non-Football, Hockey Sports). But, they
are not playing Clemson. Now, that would be a game worth seeing.
I believe it is good to keep track
of American personal debt, especially now when boom years have been in place
for over a decade. It provides insight better than polls. Right now, the personal
debt of Americans is $13.86 Trillion which is 1.2 Trillion higher than the personal
debt in the disastrous year of 2008, $12.68 Trill. But there are many millions more
people too. But this news isn’t bleak, as delinquencies right now are way down,
except for student loans. The top four areas of personal debt are mortgages,
Student Loans, Autos and Credit Cards. So, America is keeping up, and still spending
to keep business flowing.
I think I know why delinquencies are so high
for Student College Loans. Destination weddings! College grads in their twenties
and early thirties, just struvite out, more likely than not face the financial burden
that comes from being intimidated into attending expensive destination weddings
and associated bachelor and bachelorette parties in yet other far-away places
-- with high travel housing, food and gift costs, Not to mention the costs of
clothing if a member of the select wedding
party.
Whatever happened
to a bachelor party beer blast in a friend’s basement the night before the wedding
in a church around the corner?
I sat and watching a couple of college football
games Saturday and quickly realized that the college
football season is a lot like an NBA game where everything happens in the last
two minutes, or in the conference playoffs. There is a sameness of all the
games, except for uniform colors. And they often pit powerhouses against
patsies. Even among teams in the same Power Five Conferences. Last week’s Top 25
team scores: 62-0, 52-14, 41-7, 30-12, 79-7, 42-3, 24-0, 45-21, 30-0, 55-3, 45-14.
58-7, 49-0 and 28-7.
AOC was on a rather childish
looking rant the other day saying that the older generations aren’t as well informed
as younger generations. I think what she was saying is that older folks aren’t
as informed on subjects that she is informed about. But, I did watch a bit of
her fantasy romp, and she did look like a kid who needs to grow up. And, learn
a little more about what a lot of people have known for generations.
I’m not so sure
technology is so great for the human mind and individuality. Where’ the
challenge? Where’s the can-do spirit? No longer can you get lost meandering and
discovering, and then relying on your ingenuity to fin d your way back. Or
figuring out your own yardage on a golf course.., once a pleasant challenge. You
don’t have to know how to add or subtract, or anything mathematic at all.
Forget how to diagram a sentence. We don’t use sentences, and certainly not
fully spelled words. We can tell whether or not it’s raining or sunny by
looking out a window, without Alexa whispering in your ear. And who wants Alexa
by your side anyhow. I could go on forever, but I have to run out and get the
Labor Day cookout fire going, unless of course, Seri has already ignited the
grill.
My barber and I agreed
that the Boston Red Sox have been employing the possum strategy this year to
lull other contenders to sleep. To appear inept. But now, now I see the bats coming
alive, the pitching rotation having some semblance of capability, and competitiveness.
We sneak into the last wild card spot ,and then go on a rampage.
There seems to be more scrutiny across
the nation about the real effects of legal recreational marijuana. Most agree
that newer versions of weed are significantly more potent than older versions. That
perhaps nirvana needs some realist8ic rules.
I’m thinking that when someday
in the future aliens arrive here on Earth in force, they’ll take one look at
the now universally tattooed human population and fly away as faster as their saucers
will take them. “What the hell was that XL**?”
Did you see where Glitterville’s
Eric McCormack of “Will & Grace” fame called for backlisting of all actors
who donate to Trump? Oh yeah, Eric is Canadian born. Maybe he doesn’t understand
freedom of expression, unless it is him.
The Answer:
Mary Ann Nichols is alleged to be the first victim of
“Jack the Ripper”. Bonus: The 1886 Charleston SC 7.3 Quake killed 60 and
destroyed much of the City. The next big coastal quake was a 5.9 rumble in
Giles County Virginia and caused some environmental alterations. NYC had a 5.5
in 1884 which was felt from Southern Maine to Virginia and west to Cleveland.
Beautiful Lake Ossipee in NH had two 5.5’s in four days in 1940. In 1983 a 5.3
quake moved around some old tombstones in Blue Mountain Lake NY. The biggest quake
east of the Rockies was a 7.5-7 giant in New Madrid Missouri in 1811-and 1812. There
have been additional large non-west coast quakes in Mo, Arkansas and Southern
Illinois.
