Today's Tids Issue 4,591
Never forget...anything:
One of our bigger problems,
I believe, is that too many people don’t know enough to understand what we are losing
in the name of progress.
75 years ago today,
30,000 United States Marines landed on Iwo Jima. In a month the US had defeated
Japan’s Imperial Army and taken that key strategic island. The bravery of yeh
Americans fighting in that bloody siege is well documented and will always be remembered
by that statue of men in unison raising the US flag on Mount Suribachi. It was a
turning point in a great war to break the bonds of totalitarianism. It will always
be remembered, unless some mindless, heartless activist tears down that statue.
Do you think debate TV ratings
maybe up a bit tonight as the folks peek in to see what’s up with this
Bloomberg guy?
I was thinking that most of what people see
on TV or read about or have spoon fed as notifications to their tablets and phones
are highlights and lowlights of people’s lives. To some blinded by a publicity
culture that’s what the world looks like. It doesn’t really show the plodding, the
boredom and the old, “What do you want to do today, Marty. I don’t know, what do
you want to do?”, which inflicts us all at one time or another. Maybe people wouldn’t
be so disappointed if they understood that boredom was part of life. That unremitting
entertainment was not in the Bill of Rights. That looking at a wall in a room,
or waking up with nothing to do, does not make you different.
Of course,
you can always find thrills and elation right inside your own brain’s
imagination.
But, I’m great
at multitasking. I can waste time, be unproductive and procrastinate all at once.

When fake news hits
your smart phones, do they become phony’s?
Unregulated behemoths
like Airbnb are ripe for scammers of all makes and models. Apps can take you
anywhere, and sometimes it is taking you outside where you think you are going.
The operative word in our new world of technological facilitation … is caution!
With all the angst
over plastic waste these days, cling film has gotten a bad wrap.
Imaginations are great.
It gets ideas out of boxes and enlivens sprits. It soars to the skies over love.
But, it’s never ever good to exercise the inspiration from an imagination after
four martinis!
My pals and I
played Hide and Seek, and it went on for hours… good friends are hard to find.
I think that a people
will be surprised by how well Bloomberg handles the debate tonight.
But even if Bloomberg
comes out looking super presidential, and rides a new wave of enthusiasm to the
Nomination, I will never vote for a person who thinks government should mandate
how people drink carbonated beverages, and that presidential dictatorial influence
over people’s choices is good for America.
The Answer:
Well children maybe quite easy. First there is her
immediate heir to the throne, Prince Charles. Then we have Anne, Princes Royal,
followed by the now notorious hermit, Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Rounding out
her children is Edward Wessex who nobody sees. (Maybe Andrew should be named
Wessex.) Edward by the way is a very active royal leaving the Theater production
company he founded to support many social causes, and has replaced his father
Phillip in official duties and charitable responsibilities. The 8 grandchildren:
Charles – William (36) and Harry (33). (Who knew?) Anne – Peter Phillips (40),
Zara Tindall (37). Andrew and Fergy -- Princess Beatrice (29), Princess Eugenie
(28). Edward and Sophie – Lady Louis Windsor (14), James Viscount Severn (10).
I used to think
I should get beyond saying “Remember when”. Like I should get smarter about understanding
today and where tomorrow may be going. But the more I hear people talking about
the past they obviously know little or nothing about, I believe that “Remember
When”, and teaching about it, should be integral to daily living.
With the rise
of self-driving vehicles, it’s only a matter of time before we get a country
song where a guy’s truck leaves him too.
Remember when?
