Today's Tids Issue 4,589
Hail to Chiefs!
Love em’ or hate em’, 45
Presidents of the United Sates of American have gotten us through the best of times
and the worst of times. They have all faced the constant slings and arrows of
the opposition, the disillusionment of the public, and have managed to make more
good, sometime great, decisions than poor ones. They are ranked and rated, but in the end, they
come together and the USA carries on. Hail to the Oval Office and the people
who have sat in that chair.
Jimmy Carter
(On retirement): “It is very nice now when people wave at me. They use all their
fingers.”
There are two kinds
of people in this world: Those who prefer a diagram of what kind of chocolates are
where in a box, and those who dive right in and are happy with what they get.
Will Bill Barr
be the next cabinet member fired by the Prez?
Do Diabetics
have higher blood pressure because they don’t eat chocolate?*
If you think about it,
holiday gift giving is a lot like legal extortion.
I can always get all of the news
and all of the opinions from all of the media outlets, on my phone…all while watching
a relaxing golf event on TV. I see lush green avenues, balls lofting against
blue skies, and broad smiles from great personal satisfaction. All while remaining
fully informed and avoiding the cackling of news people and their guests.
In case you are interested,
the betting odds for Dem Presidential candidate have Sanders (39) and Bloomberg
(35) nip and tuck, miles ahead of Butt (12.4) Biden (9.8) and, yes, The Hill
(5.5) are down at the bottom. No Amy.
Clapping:
High fiving yourself for somebody else’s accomplishments.
The Question:
Of our 45 Presidents, one President of the USA was the
22nd and the 24th President. Who was he? Bonus: Sarah Clarke
played one of the most sinister characters on a long running TV international intrigue
show full of sinister characters. Who was her character and what is she doing now?

It’s really great when you realize
that those creaks you hear from your joints when you bend over is actually a crumpled-up
piece of paper in your pocket.
It seems to me that
for a lot of people, life would be easy if they would stop worrying about what
they don’t have.
Robert Schuman
almost makes it.
Hey! OMG! Shoot me!
I’ve become one of those critics who can’t do anything, but snipe a people with
immense talent, like Robert Schuman. Save me.
Ike: “An atheist is
a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and doesn’t care who wins.”
It seems like not such a good idea
opt quarantine people with each other on cruise ship where the deadly virus had
nothing else better to do than spread rapidly from cabin to cabin.
All eyes and news broadcasting
is on Coronavirus, but in fact we are having an extensive epidemic of the dangerous
Flu right here in the USA. Often, the media takes the national eye off the ball.
*This was not necessarily
a medical fact but an attempt at sarcastic humor.
But, there is
significant new evidence that tell us Chocolate does indeed reduce blood
pressure.
I had to laugh at the name
of the RI dog who won the prestigious terrier group in the fashionable Westminster
Dog show – “Vinnie”. Only in Rhode Island.
If democrat and independent voters
really want Bloomberg, thinking he is best to beat trump and unite country,
they will rationalizer away his past remarks.
Bernie just lost the police
vote with the endorsement of Bill Di Blasio.
Nevada is up next,
and the RCP Poll average numbers are upside down again (That means as opposed to
opiners). Sanders is still first at 21.5% but Joe has moved back to #2 at 18.5.
Liz is at 12 anis followed by Steyer at 9.5, Butt at 9 and our favorite comeback
kid, Amy at 7. The LV Journal has Bern up 7 over Joe, 25-18. Then its Liz at 13
with Steyer a point a head of Butt and Amy. I can only tell you that looking at
LV trending since the beginning, Bern has plodded alone Biden has dropped way
down and Amy has made the biggest forward gain. But LV is more about the strength
of the ground game and not pure emotionalism. South Carolina will probably
provide a clearer picture of what’s really what. BTW, Steyer is looming huge in
SC, moving up strongly from nowhere with blacks and leading the key age group, 35
-59. Now at 18%, he is a smidge below Bernie and closing in on a rapidly
falling Biden (Was 46%, now 25%).
Note also:
A poll on the Florida Primary has it Bloomberg 27, Biden 26, Buttigieg 11, Sanders
10, Klobuchar 9, Warren 5, Steyer 1. Super Tuesday should be fun for political
gamers..
One of my favorite all-time musical
rousers is John Adams Grand Pianola.
At the NBA All-Star game yesterday,
they experimented with a no clock final period. It seemed to work quite well
and fans and players loved it. In it, the final period goes until a specific
score is reached, instead of most points in a time period. Called the “Elam Ending”,
named after a Mensa member and professor of Ball State U who invented it. It
maybe good for revving declining interest in the league which despite exciting athleticism
is quite boring and predicable.
A local morning radio show guy
this morning commenting on John Cleese who is in town said, “I used to laugh at
Monty Python as a kid because my friends said he that he was funny. But, actually,
I didn’t”. I wonder if that is the same reason why so mnay say Parasite is a
good movie -- because I thought was just ok, and I rated it, ‘Not a total waste
of time’ which is slightly above ‘Don’t bother’.
Iran is off the news pages, but
a lot is going on, and it isn’t necessarily good. A key Parliamentary election
is on tap, and US knowledgeable observers are thinking it will go quite conservative,
meaning hardliners all the way. This will not be good for the millions who are trying
to get out from under. Or for the possibility of good deals through negotiation.
Or for cessation of nuclear development.
Which just means we all
should read more beneath the typically short-lived sensationalizing and shouting.
Claustrophobia:
Fear of jolly old St. Nick.
The Answer:
Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms,
and holds two of the numbers in the total of 45. Bonus: Was there a better
devious, sinister woman on TV than Nina Myers of “24”, played by Sarah Clarke. No,
not to me. She is now playing Eleanor Wish on “Bosch”, She has been successful
in many roils in Movies and on TV, and is still going strong. She married co-”24”
Actor Xander Berkely (Played George Mason) in 2002,and has two children and a
few million in the bank.
Remember when we celebrated but
George Washington and Abe Lincoln’s n birthdays in February (The 12th
and 22nd). before the car sales, before the appliance sales before
the rush to long weekend getaway’s.
Q: How many senior
Presidential aides does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None. They’re supposed to keep the President in
the dark.
