Enable rhymes with unstable.

Today's Tids Issue 5,047

Tempered by Softness:

As far as I have been able to determine, it appears that Omicron is a far greater infection threat to Wall Street algorithms than to human beings. Maybe WS is just looking for an infection to justify selling. The panic Friday certainly didn’t seem that of an orderly under control marketplace

I don’t know about you, but when I see the color orange in a supermarket my mind immediately races towards Cheetos and Reese’s. And my saliva glands jump into overdrive.

Apparently, there was a news item this morning on CNN that said Robots in the near future will be able to reproduce themselves. Of course, everybody began thinking the worst of it, a world takeover by machines. And of course, like every recent hysterical moment people would always jump upon a cultural bandwagon, this time to find roads less traveled to escape from the heartless and angry artificial intelligent mechanical masters of the planet. But what if they produced generations of good robots who respect each other and have profound sense of responsibility and honor? How refreshing would that be?

“A Canadian psychologist is selling a video that teaches you how to test your dog's IQ. Here’s how it works: If you spend $12.99 for the video, your dog is smarter than you.” --Jay Leno

I’m just me, and you are most certainly you, but I recommend always starting the day with soft non-controversial music, like a nice warm poem without words; instead of news or gabbers on TV. The heart likes it better.

The Question:

This will be controversial because all “Best-Of” lists picked by people other than ourselves are. Who are the most influential people of 2021?

The Headlines:

Who says big money doesn’t undermine ethics. In just the past couple of days two big time NCAA football caches have bolted for greener pastures just at the time when their teams needed them most. Two of the most prominent are Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma and Brian Kelly of Notre Dame. It is crunch time a for Bowl and NCAA championship series selections, and these two announced they are leaving for USC and LSU respectively. And you can be sure that under the new NCAA transfer rules, they will try to bring along their best recruits. There is no honor within those hills of greenbacks.

Just realized a pregnant dog is a dog full of puppies. How great is that!

I heard someone saying a day or two ago that opposed to Big Box or Mega Mall shopping, spending your hard-earned dollars at downtown Main Street shops is like going to a national park with stuff in it.

This rapid movement towards soft top shoes has really messed up my psyche.

Remember when the media piled on Trump’s travel ban as being racist. This week Joe B has banned travel form just about everywhere, and not a peep from our intrepid watchdogs.

When did shopping become so maniacal?

Did you ever stop to realize that you can buy both pizzas and sunglasses at huts?

The Providence Journal has proven that newspapers were far better when they had an editorial department and an accomplished editor who wrote thoughtful. often quite entertaining editorials. Now they have turned that sacred space over to biased opinions of amateur hacks with axes to grind in support of their own causes or agendas. Boooooring!

BTW, those thugs who are smashing ad grabbing while marauding through once civilized society are just basic criminals with absolutely no redeeming characteristics and certainly should never be considered in any way as adventurous, romantic, nor forgivable, or excusable for their rampart aggression upon humanity.

Paige Bueckers of UConn women’s Basketball just became the frst college athlete to sign a NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deal with Gatorade. She will be getting some nice cash while playing B-Ball. In fact, this is the second deal for Paige, who earlier inked a multi-year deal with StockX, a footwear and apparel marketplace. The next big USA dilemma – how do you monitor sports agents roaming the halls of High Schools.

One of the little joys of life is not having to worry if your phone is charging properly.

One of the great smoldering inflationary squeezes in America juts happens to be o Diet Pepsi And Diet CCoke. Nobody every pays $2.69 for a 64 oz bottle except people who do their shopping at 7-11 and other gas station convenience stores. You could always wait them out for a good sale for about a buck a bottle. But now they are creating deals that average out to about $1.28, and like Pavlov’s dog, I am become normalized. Yes, Tidsters are human too.

The markets look agonizingly low these past few days, but I’m still smiling because it has been a helluva year so far. I just hope we can keep it at least steady next year. I’ll take steady for the rest of my life.

The Answer:

I think a lot of people would agree that Elon Musk is good for a reasonable first choice. But I’m certainly sure DT Trump is a surprise for second. In order, the rest are Athony Fauci, Michael Jordan(?), Bill Gates, Kayla Barro, Billie Eilish, Serea Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo, Naomi Osaka, Taylor Swift, Actor Michael Jordan, Joe Biden, Salena Gomez, Stacey Abrams, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grade, Greta Thunberg, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihana, Labron James, Trevor Noah, Tyler Perry, Jennifer Lawrence and at #25, Jon Ossoff. That was  a hodge-podge of most influential people, I’d say. Tucker Carlson should be on that list. He must be influential because Dems hate him so much.

If you think Brussel sprouts are good, you should try any other food. It’s much better.

Happiness in Ann Arbor

Today's Tids Issue 5,046

Communities:

If you happened to watch the ed of the Ohio State-U Michigan football game yesterday, you witnessed boisterous happiness. Like kids when they come down to see presents under the tree, like parents when they see their first born. Like when two in love see each other across a crowded room. The essence of human achievement is fulfilled in undiluted, unconditional happiness, whether or not you want to believe that. And when I watched the gleeful gathering throng in An Arbor yesterday, I was privileged to enjoy America giddiness at its finest. Like we see all the time on fields, on stages and in arenas I all exceptional; endeavor levels across America. It’s always about the hearts of good people in united communities.

By far the best ever barn raising seen in a movie was that in Harrison Ford’s Witness. Well, I guess there haven’t been lot of great barn raising scenes, but when you find them they are something to savor, always representing quite nicely community unity at its highest level.

There is something about hearing Jimmy Durante beginning to sing “Frosty the Snowman” that makes you feel special all over again about the coming of the Christmas season. Like all of a sudden it is now ok to go out and buy a Christmas tree.

The news shuffles the past two-three days has been a hourly release that all read similarly. “First two Omicron cases reported in Australia… in UK,… In Thailand… I Peru…In Spain… The media has raced to interview all of the experts who generally have said “We don’t know too much about it.” The South African doc who first discovered it said, “Don’t panic, it seems mild”. Yet Wall Street panicked and Politicians are diving in to further annuluses among good people. And we basically don’t know anything of substance.

The word behind the DC scene is that Jerome Powell regained his Fed Chief spot because he promised Bide that he would execute banking strategies that would make it palatable for banks to underwrite Joe’s main objective, funding climate change programs.

The Question:

Who was the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy? Bonus: Which female actor had her movie intro playing opposite Harrison Ford in Witness.

Mall chaos, Department:

Flash mob to Smash mob – is that about it, the end of a civilized world? No! Human values will rise again.

Dumb Headline of the Day, Department:

“Shippers preparing for Holiday Crush.” Of course, they are.

Christmas season just arrives earlier and earlier. Proving once again that the spirit of Christmas now lies buried in a pile of credit card receipts.

Every entertainment institution is now trying to get paid for streaming what they used to offer for free. They have entered the real TV “Ratings” world judged by the pocketbook, and some will find that is isn’t working so well.

Quotes that have been sent my way, Department:

George Carlin: “Governments don’t want well informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. That’s against their interests. They want obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines, and do the paper work. Ad just dumb enough to passively accept it.” -- Ronald Reagan: “Keep voting democrat – One day they will restrict your freedoms, restrict your history and restrict your safety. All in the name of professional victims that don’t understand the consequence of their ignorance.”

I also saw heartbreak when in the last second Auburn lost a victory what was in their hands as a receiver caught a perfect pass from Alabama freshman QB Brice . The focus was on the disappointment and not the elation of the other teams amazing moment. Auburn outplayed Alabama all day until that single death strike. Human life is filled with drama.

Britbox is the latest of new streaming options for entrapment hungry humans. It featured all of the best British mysteries and dramas. It cost 99 cents a month. It joins a growing list of streaming for anything adventures, How many can you buy at $5/mo? Maybe 99 cents will be the answer.

The Answer:

The great Erie Davis of Syracuse wo tat trophy in1962. He also won the hearts of his Syracuse fellow students and the alums by doing pretty well at what everybody thought was impossible – relacing the even greater Jim Brown, who had graduated. Jim Brown should have been the first Black man to win the prized trophy. I remember being in a bar in Elmira, the hometown of Ernie just after he died so young. I talked to the bartender and people around me and was touched deeply by a profound heart wrenching feeling of those people. Ernie in that town was fa r more than a high school hero, and great college player. He was a contributor, an honorable young man i a community. In 1962 just after he was made the first pick I the 1962 NFL draft we was diagnosed with leukemia and died shortly thereafter at the age of 23. Bonus: Kelly McGinnis was tee woman took Hollywood by storm after her debut in Witness. She followed it with an award-winning performance in Top Gun. If oyu ae ever ithe mood to read a drama of human r tragedy read telif eof Kelly.

People working together, helping each other I community efforts has always been at the heart of a better America.
