Today's Tids Issue 6.067
Remember and relax:
Well, waddaya know. It's Memorial Day Weekend. Who knew. Glad I didn't plan anything so I won’t be disappointed if I don't get there. I’ll talk about the heroes on Monday. Though in reality, the heroes never die. We have a daily reminder because we are here and we are free.
What a loss. Kyle Busch, for crissake. Dead. Just like that. What a driver, What a winner. But he was the devil on the track, The fiercest of the fierce. Though never the best friend of fellow drvers, they laughed at his wit, He always had their respect as one of the best ever doing brilliantly what they all tried to do well. And the shock of his leaving suddenly disturbs them all. And they will feel the void of not looking over their shoulders.
Speaking of conflicted emotions, how about that stock market feeling the exultation of good business reports against the fogginess of Iran peace talks.
“It’s so much easier to suggest solutions when you don’t know too much about the problem.” —Malcolm Forbes
The Question:
Teh successful British race driver Katherine Legge, 46, will attempt tobe the first women to drive the Holiday “Double Duty” – the Indy Five Hundred followed by the Nascar Coca Cola 600 – 1,100 miles of intense racing in one day. She would also be the first non-USA person and oldest to try. How many other drivers have attempted this feat and who are they?

Sometimes I reread a Tidlet or two to find that they actually make sense and aren’t too badly written. And I wonder, does anybody else see what I see.
I was standing there doing my morning stretches when 7 big ole; turkeys waddled by. I looked past them to the stone wall and sitting there was one lonely Turkey. None of the seven said, “Hey you, want to waddle and gobble long with us.” Nope. He just stood up, flapped his wings a bit, jumped off the wall and walked down the hill. You have to wonder, what did he or she do wrong. Yup, societies are societies, no matter who’s in them.
If I could draw I think could be a cartoonist when I grow up.
Rubio just said that “Cuba is a threat to the US. On the surface that certainly doesn't seem to make sense. Why would he say something like that if the US wasn't planning another quickie war?
“If you can’t be kind, at least be vague.” —Judith Martin
So, the The US Commission of Fine Arts overwhelmingly approved the Gigantic Trump Arch to be built behind the Lincoln memorial,... which it will dwarf BTW. Despite a lot of significant criticism, the approval flew by as the all Trump appointed committee were all singing in unison, Yes sir, that's my baby.
But the Senate, including a growing number of Repubs are not so happy with the $1776 Bil giveaway or the extra billion needed to construct the no taxpayer funded Ball room. Trump can't appoint an all Trump Senate, but he may try,
Meanwhile, the big news will be clogged roads and rainouts of Memorial Day festivities. I have always had in my mind that it was always May 30. But Government employees liked the day weekends so in 1968 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act under LBJ was passed. I guess at the time I never paid much attention to anything LBJ siad or did. I probably should have.
I loved Jalen Brunson when he was leading Villenova to two National Championships. He was National Player of the Year. But I felt he was underappreciated by national “Experts” at the draft. And he had to wait til number 33 to be selected. Look at him now. The kid's a winner just like always before. Stat ddrivenexperts often don't look inside the hearts of players.
They say we are probably in for a Super el NIno which would send massive waves of heat into the atmosphere affecting weather patterns around the world. It would cause droughts in places like Australia and Indonesia, drenching rains in the USA. And more hurricanes where the prevailing winds blow. Around this typing machine I can expect a warmer Winter. And news stations will be happy because they love reporting whacky weather. Lots of videos.

The Answer:
The “Double Duty” is an enormous feat and no driver who attempted it has won either side and certainly not both. The best effrot was by Tony Stewart in 2001 with a 6 at Indy and a 3 at Charlotte. The first to try was John Andretti in 1994. The others are Robby Gordon (5 times), Stewart and Kyle Larson twice and Kurt Busch once. So, all eyes will be on Katherine.
Memorial Day came out of the emotions at the end of the Civil War. It was the idea of a General logan to honor the fallen heroes and the servicers of battles and places like Andersonville. It was originally called “Decorations Day” a name still in existence when I was young. So here is the great Civil War hymn. If you feel like playing it.
