Today's Tids Issue 6,062
The proverbial next year:
When will we know the definition of successful? What does “Fantastic” really mean? The cynic within me has been bursting at the seams lately. So, I'm just waiting. And kicking myself for using the Bursting cliche.
Up here starting tomorrow, the sun will set at 8 PM or later until July 26. I expect to go crazy with nightlife.
Colored maps on news broadcasts really skew statistics which create hysteria, giving the government a chance to be useful. Most of the time it is over dramatizing nothing at all.
Today’s neighborly discussion is about who can outdo whom with Car gas fill-up costs. I'm hearing of some crazy numbers. And I’m happy I’m not winning.
The Question:
What do you think is the rate of commercial airline accidents?
The Headlines:
--Despite Positive Signals from Summit, Stocks Tumble on Inflation Fears; US Import Prices Surge with Oil the Primary Culprit.
--Trump Says China has Agreed to buy 200 Boeing Jets; Xi Mum on Trade Details; Tensions Remain High on Taiwan and Iran Issues.
--New Ebola Breakout Kills 65 in DR Congo.
--Explosive Device Found in Critical Alabama Reservoir Detonated.
--Scientists say Odds are Increasing for Super el Nino.
In an interview with NBC Anchor Tom Lammis last night Marco Rubio just looked a little too nervous and excitable to be President of the USA.
The boom is turning into a thud as US hotels report underwhelming bookings for the World Cup. And the word underwhelming may be conservative compared to the hopes and moneymaking dreams of the tourist industry. The reasons are high rates and slow visa approvals for foreign travelers. All US locations are way down except Atlanta and Miami. But I suspect the inhabitants of some of those stadium areas may be happier.
I find myself avoiding roads that may have speed cameras. I never know when I will be daydreaming and go one mile over the allowed limit and get a $50 ticket. That plus roulette at the gas pumps makes driving very risky.
What's with all these small planes falling out of the sky lately. Is it bad pilots or bad mechanics. It seems there is one on the news every night.
I just read the NE Patriots schedule and I think they have more winnable games than I expected. An early game with the Jags could be significant. I have them winning 10 to 12 games. New England needs thePats after the current flop of the mighty Celtics and the Boston and Providence Bruins. Add the Red Sox under a dark cloud looking pretty lackluster going nowhere with silent bats. Sorry for getting provincial. Sports fans are often suddenly overcome with pangs of terror.
BTW, the Seattle Seahawks may have done the best job overall getting their team ready for a repeat. Though some of the so-called experts thinking it may be KC coming back to the top.
It’s surprisingly sunny today. Rats. Now I have to go outside and do something constructive.
Xi showed Trump some of the well-preserved trees 200 to 400 years old – older than the Independence we are celebrating this year. Now you have to wonder what a developer's mind is thinking about trees still standing. Do you think that the Prez was finding a new appreciation for retaining the old and now having second thoughts about tearing down the East Wing? You never know, He can be volatile.
Speaking of developers, this movement by politicians to create affordable housing basically just gives developers a wedge to avoid zoning regulations. High rise complexes around here are sprouting lie mushrooms in the most unlikely areas. And the designs all look like multi- Housing plans 101. It is sad.
Did you hear about the woman telling a friend about her soon to be wedding a real estate developer. “He’s Dreamy. Look at this engagement ring he sold me.”
The Answer:
Commercial airline accidents get a lot of play on the nightly news. But they are so much more than just visual news excitement. They are a heartbreaking tragedy of the highest proportions for the deceased and their families. Unimaginable trauma for all involved. But they are very rare. In 2025 it was one accident per 759,000 flights. With 38.7 million flights occurring in 2025, the fatal accidents are less than 0.06 per million.
This seems like a Gloomy Gus Tids. Next week will be sunnier.
Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
