Today's Tids Issue 3,351
Opening Stuff:
I just think that
today is going to be a great day, no matter what happens. Sometimes you
just have days like that.
Five Hour energy drinks
are not good for my nap schedule.
I have had it with
all of these protests against police, and even more so for the media not
even trying to seek out the facts before publishing gasoline on fire rhetoric.
And I won’t even begin to say what I think of the WH continuing support of
unfounded accusations.. I think what put me over the edge, I mean the latest
travesty to put me over the edge, was the latest confrontation on Tuesday in Boston
where a terror suspect under surveillance came at the police and FBI with your
basic ISIS style beheading knife. The family immediately said that the police
shot their relative in the back 3 times and the media ran with it without
checking, as usual. The videos clearly showed the situation of the attacking alleged
radicalized Islamist supporter, and the Police/FBI backing away. This accusation
supported by the media definitely did not happen. When told of the video, the
family replied that the video didn’t count! The police and other protection
organizations continually face thugs, murderers, criminals and now terrorists. They
are the last wall of protection throughout all venues in cities and towns, and
that includes the poorest of neighborhoods where good people, struggling people,
live in fear of their own. This story had a twist though… The local NAACP type
org came out to say emphatically that the police were right. Maybe the people
are learning, much to the dismay of desperate journalists with personal agendas.
A funny little thing
is happening on the way to coronations -- the Voters, with a capital V, seem
to be seeking out their own candidates; not Interested In who the machines dictate,
Including the Hill And the Jebster. Stay tuned.
The Question:
Ok, lets see what you know about a couple of people born on
June 4. 1. Name Angelina Joli’s five
best movies. 2. Michelle Phillips and the Mamas and the Papas had some great
hits. Name five. Bonus: Who was the
first American to walk in space?

As I read the piece about security agencies asking Twitter to
“Unfriend” ISIS Types, I was thinking that “Unfiend” would be more appropriate.
I agree with a reader
who sent in his comments on the women’s College World Series. The game is
faster and the playing crisp and enthusiastic. Frankly, I don’t know how they
hit the ball from a mere 60 feet away approaching the plate at about 70 mph. It
gets on the batter in about the same time as a 90 mph pitch from Major League
baseball player. Last night Florida edeged a mighty and courageous Michigan team
in the rubber game to win their 2nd consecutive world series championship.
It’s the best ball on TV. So, here’s my question. The teams played over 65
games this spring. When do they study?
I like to wear
colorful flowered ties to memorial services and funerals. I like to think I’m
reflecting the smiles and good hearts of friends.
The best food buy
in my estimation is the supermarket Rotisserie chicken.
When I watch all of
these protests, I’m more and more thinking of the Chicken Little story.
Yesterday’s paper had
another classic mis-reporting by a journalist or editor, clearly with an agenda.
The Projo headline in large black type said “98% of Rhode Island Against Downtown
Ball Park. “. What they were reporting was the percentage of emails sent to the
Governor (567 of 573) urging The Gov to squash the deal . Of course, negative people
always send in more emails on any subject, and in this case the barrage smacks
of an organized write-in campaign. Too bad those entrusted to sort it all out
for us don’t what’s going on, or refuse to look past their own personal feelings.
Judging by what I see
people wearing around town these days, I’m not surprised to read that the sales
of the sensible clothing purveyor, Lands End, are sliding rapidly.
Russia, the victim?
Or Putins lament, “Don’t cry for me Soviet Socialists”.
If you are worried
about n-line fraud don’t go to Indonesia, as that is the riskiest of places
for traipsing through Cyber mine fields. The safest is Denmark. The rest of the
worst are Venezuela, South Africa, Brazil and Romania. The others atop the safe
list after the Danes are New Zealand, Finland, Norway and Switzerland. Of course
when it is World Wide Web, “Safest” is only relative to the entity.
There seems to be a
growing cry against ESPN for giving Jenner The ESPY Courage Award. I’d
given up on ESPN years ago as a reliable source for news of any kind. Their
experts go for glory, personal accolades and political correctness or to feed
their own vendettas against somebody, and of course career moves in a crowded
arena. It’s not surprising they went with the pop culture momentum in picking
Jenner over many courageous people, like Lauren Hill. But, the score card for
the big sports conglomerate is generally around “C” for almost all efforts. At
least from my pointb of view.
The Answer:
1. Angelina was
best, they say, in Gia, Girl Interrupted, Original Sin, Lara Croft: Tomb
Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Alexander, Changeling, Salt, The Bone Collector and
A Mighty Heart. 2. The Mamas and the
Papas had everybody singing in the 60’s with ditties like California Dreaming,
Go Where You Wanna Go, Monday Monday, I call Your Name, Do You Wanna Dance, I Saw
Her Again, You baby, Dancing Bear, Words Of Love and No Salt on her Tail. Outside
the Top 10 was some popular efforts like Dedicated to the One I Love and covers
of classics like Dancin In the Streets and Twist and Shout. Bonus: Exactly 50 years ago yesterday, Edward
White opened that hatch and stepped into the darkness where no man he knew had
gone. Ooooooo-Weeeee-Ooooooo. Kind of gets your heart beating a little, doesn’t
it?
I’m smilin’. Are
you?
I said I was going to
have a good day, and I like Monday, Monday – so here it is:
