Tday's Tids Issue 3,355
Opening Stuff:
There is always the
silence from that sharp intake of breath, now broken by the crunching of my
footsteps upon clam shells baked from the sun, when I first walk into a
boatyard. I always feel in awe standing beneath the graceful, flowing hulls we
never see, the keels that never see the wind but feel the power of its force,
reacting with life saving strength. The masts soar, to heaven? They must.
Everywhere I see masts and webs of lines. I don’t have to look at the waters
that move against the bulwarks, lapping hypnotically. I alwys feel the sense of
salt water; smelling cleanliness in the air. The salt, the aromas of the seas and
tidal flats. And the masts. The majestic masts that fill the skies.
For me, Must-see TV
is the Shriner’s Kids commercial.
For many right now,
Must-see TV is the Cavs-Warriors NBA Series. Labron is on a mission. He will
not be stopped. He has lost his top level supporting cast, but powers on. Yet,
what makes even more excitng is that the second level guys are stepping up and
playing their hearts out. Like Matthew Dellavedova who was admitted to Cleveland
Clinic after the game where he needed fluids to replenish a body given to the needs
of the team; a body now near the exhaustion that comes from playing at 130% This
is not to diminish the hearts of the Warriors. Thompson has been superb. And
last night the amazing Curry spiced up his teammates leading a charge that
almost snatched victory from the Cavs who were rolling. This is a series. Oh
yeah, Labron is waking up some of the naysayers. In fact, in Boston some old curmudgeons
are conceding that perhaps, perhaps Labron may be as good Larry Bird…or Bill Russell
or Bob Cousey. Perhaps.
The Question:
Today, GQ Mag named Providence RI the “Coolest city in
America”. Forbes Mag has named the top 20 coolest cites, and Prov isn’t one of
them. I guess they don’t like Providence’s Bond rating! Name stodgy old Forbes idea
of 10 coolest cities

There is a lot of
talk about the upcoming Supreme Court decision, voting for or voting
against gay marriage. But, the argument there is really not at all about gay
marriage, but about something intrinsic in America -- the integrity,
sovereignty of the States. In the USA, the states have been the entities that
supposedly use the Central government for efficiencies or for Interstate
commerce. States write their own laws based on the needs of their people. No constitutional
amendment is passed until the states say
Ok. People have always had the choice to move to states that are or seem best
suited their needs, be it historical environment, weather, people, pot, geography,
economics or laws. So, when gay marriage activists say the people want Gay
marriage in increasing percentages, it is interesting information, but not
central to the decisions about the rights of states.
The next big USA
financial crisis might just be the inability of the States to operate in
the black. For many of them, the pension systems operated outside the reality
of available revenue, revenue which is solely based on the income of taxpayers.
In addition, the Feds have pushed many mandates onto state treasuries including
the very costly Medicaid program. There is now endless pot in States like there
is (But shouldn’t be) in the federal
coffers. States have to manage what is realistic. The people are being squeezed,
and they are beginning to say no more.
Taking down dictators
in The Middle East doesn’t seem to be working out so well.
I just saw that the
US Training force in Iraq is bigger than Iraq troops they are training.
Obviously Iraq and other countries are in the process of being smothered buy an
irrational, evil brutal army of mass murderers. They, ISIS, are waging a
non-negotiable war. There only appears to be two courses of action, stay away
and let them eventually overrun the states in the region, or send in massive
armies to smother them. Half way measures are not working. I am not urging war,
just pointing out what Is, is. It’s escalating rapidly as victory after victory
emboldens the relentless invaders. ISIS is not a junior league threat, that is
for sure.
Every time a Republican
candidate seems to loom as a potential challenger to the Queen, Hillary’s
promotional Pamphlet, the NY Times, creates an uninformed, sometimes bogus
piece against him or her. The latest is Rubio who ha been getting a lot of
favorable nods lately from Repub voters. In
this case, the august fading Gray lady slurs Rubio as being a poor
financial planner and not up to managing the USA debt (Like 0-Man Is). What
they are looking at are his early days in marriage that we have all experienced,
where sometimes income flow doesn’t match up to basic bare necessity
expenditures. It is truly a manufactured issue designed to embarrass the man and
blunt the Rubio surge.. The Times wrote the piece under the appearances of
being sympathetic, but with the caustic tone of accusation.
The local state heads
of cities and towns are imploring the state people’s representatives to
allow them to have the ability to run their own cities and towns and negotiate
freely with the unions to help the people who the people representatives represent
manage their own indulged upon wallets. What a travesty!
You have to wonder
if all of the impending doom forecasts for stocks are being generated by all of
those holding Gold.
I’ll never have a bucket
list because there would be far too much pressure to fulfill it.
When the encroachment
of civilization gets overbearing; when the sameness of new development construction
muddles your senses, take a drive into the East Side of Providence or down the
quiet ros to Little Compton and feel the beauty of places untouched. See the classic
lines of architecture that much of t has stood the test of 300 or more years. Think
of the footsteps that have walked the lanes or plowed the fields. These may be
two of the most beautiful places in America.
Yes, this is
definitely diversity time at America’s Got talent.
The Answer:
Obviously, Forbes doesn’t get around much and just relies of
hearsay as a basis for their opinions. No Providence as Coolest, but they have Washington
DC, Seattle, Austin, Houston, San Fran, San Diego, Denver, Riverside, Boston
and Dallas.
Is there anything
better than the smile of a little girl, who after prolonged debilitating illnesses,
steps out upon a stage that-is a hospital hallway, moves her legs again and begins
dancing.
