A chicken in every pot, including gravy.

Today's Tids Issue 3.464
Opening Stuff:

Duh Question of the Week, Department:
Supposedly super intelligent interviewer Charlie Rose subbing on CBS Nightly News asked his intrepid reporter covering the Repub debates: “A lot of attacks on Hillary Clinton. Why?” I’m silently cringing here.

Did you hear about the guy who called the incontinence hot line? They asked, ”Can you hold, please?”

Not many people are making chicken fricassee gravy any more, but they should.

I started writing titles for the Tids when I went on lie with the blog version World View: Etc. a thought provoking title just made it look better. So the fun part of the daily challenge is to think of a new set of words to bemuse and inform. Now sometimes they may look odd and irrelevant like perhaps today’s. But, Politicians just can’t promise a good food on the table any more, they have to add goodies like free cell phones and tablets, or a gravy boat load of extras like free college! The Koch brothers are tempering their enthusiasm for all Pols as they find the promises to stop the madness disappear as good intentions are strangled by the grasp of Washington. So, let’s get rid of the gravy, except doused over food on my plate, and yours if you’re as smart as I think you are.

The Question:
“Triple Q Day!” Wow!: 1. Who is Beetle Bailey’s sister? 2. What did FDR use to signal the official opening of the Golden Gate Bridge? 3. Which now deceased Supreme Court Justice served the longest?

The greatest mechanics in the world have to be in Cuba where almost all of the cars still running on bad roads were built before 1958.

How to enjoy your gravy and not pay more taxes: I haven’t had a good recipe from the Kitchens of Tidsville in a while. Here’s a simple one which will glorify all meals. In a pan, melt ½ stick of butter. Add enough flour to make paste. Slowing stir in chicken broth until desired thickness. Easy and absolutely mouthwatering.

The Voice had its first gigantic cut last night, and going in I was rooting for Madi Davis, Zach Seabaugh and one of my favorites Yvonne Acela. I kind of liked Emily Ann Roberts, who it turned out had the #6 most sold song on Apple Tunes. Oddly, she had to be picked by Blake. Madi came through, proving that for the second year in a row, “Folk” is in. I believe that she and Jordan are the most talented, although a talented Ellie Lawrence didn’t make it from fans or judge. It was obvious that the “Cute Boy” was working factor when so-so songer Braiden Sunshine (Not so o cute to me) was chosen in the vote. But that theory deteriorated when the good looking better singer Blaine Mitchell got the ax. I thought Darius Scott, Viktor Kiraly and Lawrence were the big losers. I think it is truly tough on the judges, and the consternation not scripted. I’m still rooting for Ivonne Acero.

Real Dumb Blond: Justin Bieber.

Another week, and other bottle of Tums as me esteemed team of pickers face the challenge of NFL parity – they are mostly bad. We inched up to 88-48 (62%) after a mediocre week and lots of close games that could have gone either way. Thursday night on NFL/NCS brings us an interesting made for media war of New York featuring the old Jets team coach Ryan against his old team. It’s somewhat of a mystery game as I’m thinking the Jets aren’t as good as they looked, and Buffalo certainly isn’t as good as hyped. I’m picking the Bills. GB to come back against Martha’s Lions and Dallas could lose to TB. Tenn has it’s moments but Carolina is proving it is that good. Panthers. Gotta pick Rams over Bears and Washington over the Saints. I’ve been pulling for the Iggles and they’re doin’ it for me so I go with them over Miami. Baltimore to keep the mini-roll going against Jax, and Minn will falter against an improving Oakland team. I’m scared of the Giants and worried about Pats injuries, but the Pats just look like they know what they are doing all of the time. Denver will beat KC. I think Cleveland and Pitt will be a great war, with home team Pitt having an edge. How great will the Arizona-Seattle game be? I’m picking the Cardinals to upset the home team. I look back over this mess and see myself easily losing more than I win.

Back in the early 1900’s less than 6% of Americans had graduated from High School’ At the turn of the century my grandmother was a teacher. Who did she teach?

In case you missed it but wonder where your taxes are going, last year workers for the deplorable VA received $142 Million In Performance Bonuses. How do you change government mentality? It’s not for the people any more.

Finish protégé of Composer Sebelius, Einojuhan Rautavaara, is a prolific creator of very listenable music. It is somewhat ethereal and often very environmental. He has written Symphonies, chorals for Mass and string quartets; violin and a haunting piano concerto. Mainly, though, he grows in appreciation for what I call symphonic poems. There is life after Beethoven and Mozart.

Some mornings I awaken to the scary realization that my eyes failed overnight, only to realize that the Providence Journal skimped on the ink. Today was a full ink day and it feels real good.

The New America: Most of RI state funding relies on taxes from gambling and marijuana, and huge chunks of big money from class action law suits. Worried yet?

Speaking of bureaucracies that strangle reality, that mess in the Vatican seems more immovable than even the vast millions in the US federal morass.

The Parking Lot: Chaper 28
Then family of Jeremiah Hicks and his beautiful Wampanoag wife Elizabeth, Masatta, had quickly multiplied to a family of seven. The small tribe of now diseased Chief Joseph had thrived after the death of King Phillip. Jeremiah though was never allowed to become a true tribal leader, nor would he ever be allowed to. His ideas, talents and energy, though, were respected by most of the young men including the new chief Red Shoes. Even Elizabeth’s normally taciturn mother would occasionally, but secretly smile at the achievements of her son-in-law.
Because of his accomplishments, and yes his good nature, Jeremiah had earned the confidence of this matriarchic society, to the extent that one day he was told that he could leave the tribe and move to his own lands.  Jeremiah’s lands were now vast, perhaps even greater than all of the remaining tribes. His father’s dealings with Joseph, trading secrets of the English and Plymouth Colony during the King Phillip war amassed much land form Joseph as a reward. And, saved the lives if his family. That was in addition to the lands Rcihard already held and the new territory earned by Jeremiah as a quasi tribe member.
With Elizabeth and their five children, he set out one day, to the tears of her mother who actually hugged Jeremiah for the first time, to their new world on the great northern lake.

The Answer:
1. “Lois” of the comic strip “Hi and Lois” is the sister of the renowned goof-off Beetle Bailey. She always takes time on Veterans Day to remember the military. 2. It wasn’t a cell phone or even a landline that officially opened the Golden Gate Bridge. It was FDR tapping out a message on a telegraph Key. I always did have a problem with my Morse code. Maybe that’s why I never became President. 3. William O. Douglas was on the court for 36 years.

Have a truly magnificent day, Everybody!
