Today's Tids Issue 3,460
Opening Stuff:
I
like the comfort of a foggy day, the quiet calm of city
streets. I like that I can’t see so far; that the world doesn’t intrude on who
I are.
I’ll
tell you who should be protesting team logos -- the Italians,
Spanish, Feminists and Blacks who don’t have teams with nicknames recognizing
their important presence in our nation’s past. Of course these nick name
protests are just pastime activity of people who will protest anything if you
give them a sign to carry. The real problem is when the hapless Government leaders
get involved in what they perceive as a national movement that only Don Quixote
would love; a “national discussion” which generally is that of a small group
that has received an abundance of publicity from moldable journalists. Do we
really want bureaucrats and politicians, who will pander to anything that walks,
telling us how to run our sports teams? Or anything else in out lives? And now
Adidas, a German company, is making a big offer to teams to provide a complete
equipment changeover for free. It is most likely that they are generous because
UDSA giant Under Armor is snapping their jock straps in the locker rooms of the
nation. Go Skins! But, not this Sunday.
Ben
Carson is a nice, cool under fire, intelligent guy, but
every once in a while he dives into irrelevancy with statements that meaningful
to nothing. The latest about storing grain in pyramids I guess is about his
devotion to the truths in the bible, but why? Yes, it is nice he believes, but unfortunately it can make him look weird. Looking weird rd is not good for a political future

A
guy writes to say that “getting Lucky” at his age is
walking into a room and remembering what he came in for.
One
of the great new American mysteries is where the money
for the new Electric Car company Faraday Future comes from. This company expected
to have a supercar more than competitive to Tesla by 2017 has a real dream team
of engineer superstars that come from top jobs in places like BMW, Ferrari and
yes, Tesla. Of course, the big rumor out there is that this is the new car from
Apple!
In
case you feel a little grouchy at times about celebrities,
you are probably not be alone. Here are some of the most hated women in
Hollywood. Number one is Gwyneth Paltrow. She just makes everybody uncomfortable.
The next nine are Lee Ann Rimes, Catherine Heigle, Jennifer Lopez, Brandi Glanville,
Taylor Swift (Hated For success and being nice), Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Kris
Jenner and Miley Cyrus. The Egos in Hollywood probably hate for any number of
reasons, but mainly it is probably jealousy or as in the case of Kim K, getting
there with no talent. But then, there are those like Paltrow and surprisingly
Lopez who just treat people badly.
Hillary
support, now almost rampant in movies and TV productions,
has even begun to show up in one of my favorite TV shows, Fargo. A new conflict
muddying the waters is a not so subtle support of women’s rights with a severe
dismissing of the value of men at any level. Use em’ but never forget you are
first, is the theme. Of course the alpha female in the particular segment is using
a conflicted and confused woman to fulfill her own agenda.
Those
convicted of rigging LIBOR are exactly the type of dishonest
bankers who give banking and the financial world a bad name – all for me and
damn the economy of the world. Convictions have been a long while coming, but
it will good for the playing field for all.
If you let the Gov get away with making the Redskins unacceptable think of a small super-excellent college like Amherst and their nickname The Lord Jeffs. Feudal elitism is racist.
Reading
Between the lines Movie Revirews:
--I just think Peanuts is a profound institution in
America. Fans and critics love this one, and you will come away with that warm and
fuzzy Charlie Brown feeling. Just hope that Lucy doesn’t move your football.
--Spectre is the new Bond film with Daniel Craig. The
critics always give it a pass even when it is just more of the same Bond because
it is always fun and exciting. A cryptic message from his past sends Bond on a mission
to uncover a sinister organization. I’d go.
--Spotlight is a pretty good film by all accounts,
well received by critics and attendees. It brings back the depth of wrongdoing in
the Catholic Priest sex sagas of Boston and the deplorable handling of the
episodes by Cardinal Law. It is also an exciting Journalistic Thriller in the mold
of “All The Presidents” men. Unfortunately it will reinforce that negative
light on a church now recognizing it’s failure, and trying to turn around that past.
--This is a Hollywood tribute to those in their business
who were blacklisted for alleged Communist ties in the 40’s. It follows the
fall and recovery of double Academy Award Winner Dalton Trumbo. It exposes the possible
injustices of that list.
-- Brooklyn is yet another well received film and
a beautiful story of an Irish immigrant to Brooklyn who finds love in her wonderful
country, but then must choose between two countries and other lives that exist
within the. I’ll put it on my list.
Editors note: This is one of strongest bunch of
films I;ve seen released in ne week, and you will be hearing of superlatives
and heartfelt messages from the illuminated on Oscar night.
By
the way, there are several Hollywood-ites who could be blacklisted,
starting with Tarantino.
The
