Today's Tids Issue 3,466
Opening Stuff:
You’d
think that 10’s of thousands of years after caveman days
we’d be getting more civilized.
Remember
when
Noxima was considered the cure-all for just about anything?
The
big problem with a booming economy is that you can’t afford
to live in it – Hotel rates soar, local contractors gouge and food prices
outpace gold. I’m voting for a president who will destroy the economy.
The
Question:
Name what are considered the worst terrorist acts
in modern history.

All
of the official US statements about the French massacre
seem to be hedging about “Committing all the help we can”.
Big
myths of modern society, Department:
A child asks, “Mommy, Daddy, can we have a dog.
Huh? Please! I will take care of him.”
The
big Archery Center advertised to its target audience.
Maybe
there’s enough scoring in Hockey and Soccer after all:
be interesting to give you the scores of this weekend’s
games by eliminating the 7 points for a TD and 3 for an FG, and just use 1 and ½
for those scores. (Or, more accurately 1.16 for TD + EP). But, I’ll keep it simple.
On Thursday then we had the Bills beating the Jets 3 to 2½. The rest of the weekend
produced these results: Det-2 ½, GB 2 ¼; Miami 3, Phi 2 ¾; Wash 6 ½, NO 2; Jax
3 1/6, Bal 2.9; Car 4, Tenn 1 ½; TB 1 ½, Dal 1; Minn 4 ½, Oak 2; NE 3 7/8, NYG
3 3/4; Pitt 4 ½, Clve1 ½; Ariz 5 ½, Sea 3 ½. Well you get the picture, the
really isn’t a lot of scoring, it’s just magnified. But then how could they score
that much more when there is only about 15 minutes o actual action.
A
lot of politicians seem to be getting the message that the
people are tired of the acerbic bickering and violent destruction of other people’s
characters. I think this era of intense hatred by one side against another
began with Roe v Wade.
When
you can see better without your glasses, you know it’s
time to wash the lenses.
You
may have noticed that the cute little Jennifer Lawrence
stepped upon her soapbox to rail against Repubs for their supposed “War against
Woman”. Here’s another new quote from her: “No one ever asks me out. I am
lonely on every Saturday night. Boys are so mean to me.” Hmmm. I wonder why?
Does she talk too much? But, I’ll still go see Hunger Games because I like it…and
she is good in it. That’s why I don’t like actors on soap boxes – I only look
at movies and entertainment as escape and not learning opportunities. I don’t
care if movies have messages. I just want to walk out with a smile on my face
or pleasant tension in my body.
A
lot of young couples and I guess trendier older people are
buying homes and then knocking down walls for that “Open Space” look. They will
soon find that not having a nice cozy get-away room with walls will be dearly
missed.
Student
protests are more of an annoyance than anything else.
You
have to figure that the officials in the Turkey Government
are concerned about the success of the Kurdish army.
In
a headline, the “ACLU says that racially disproportionate
suspensions in grammar schools are unfair. If I were in charge I’d look at it
as sign of a core problem that should be solved and not enabled.
I
had in mind of starting this week’s Tids with a beautiful, romantic,
uplifting poem. But blood soaked bodies in the street somehow makes your heart
move into a different place.
Stocks
to Watch, Department:
Experts are picking this list of ten companies as
the stocks expected to rise the most in 2016: Dollar Tree, Kohls, Discovery
Communications, Scripps Network Interactive, Carnival, Lennar, Under Armour,
Expedia, Netflix and Amazon. Place your bets, and watch the wheel go round and
round.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 28 continues…
Despite
his father’s outward concern, Jeremiah looked as calm as a rock as he walked over
to a chair apparently oblivious to the insults of the giant man. He sat
quietly, crossed his legs and moved his head around to gage the temperament of
the men now seating themselves around the room. Neither his eyes nor his lips
gave away any of the emotions he was controlling. He could sense this was not going to be easy. Not
only was Howland a stubborn old bastard, but much of the Hick’s land had come
from Joseph in trade for Richard’s information
duri the war about Plymouth and English plans. He would let his dad guide the
meeting, and just listen. If he could.
Like his
dad, Howland was, he knew, also a pretty substantial citizen of the area.
Howland controlled much of the bay side territory, which made him a formidable
power in the town, and the controller of shipping. Jeremiah had amassed lands primarily inland to the east, but also strategically
on the Bay abutting Howland’s near Nanaquaket inlet. The Hicks controlled Agricultural
lands but Howland controlled transportation. Jeremiah wanted to change that not
just for his blood family but for his tribal family just to the south of his
inlet holdings.
Howland
stood, and said looking squarely at Jeremiah, “I’ve never dealt with Indians
before, so I doubt of we can agree to an
honest solution unless I bring along my gun.”
“Enough,
William,” said his Father, standing. Jeremiah just sat there and held Howland’s
gaze.
Jermiah
slowly uncrossed his legs, leaned forward and stood, exaggerating every pause
and every movement. When he reached his full height, the men in the room saw
what they really hadn’t realized before. Jeremiah while wiry and muscular, was
the tallest man in the room; he was not a kid anymore. Then room couldn’t have
been quieter. “William, you might grow to like me if you’d take a little time
to listen. You just think you know me, and you don’t. You just think you know
Red Shoe and the Wampanoags, and you don’t know anything.” All eyes were first
on Jeremiah, and then Howland who had taken a step towards the younger Hicks.
The
Answer:
This is nothing to celebrate, but it is part of
our darker history. 911 ranks as the worst. #2 is Oklahoma City followed by
Mumbai (2008), Bombing of Wall Street by Galleanists (1920), World Trade Center
(1993), 2001 Anthrax Attacks, Chechnya Border attacks (2001), Athens to Rome
TWA Bombing (1974), 1973 Ma’a lot Massacre in Israel and Ten Puerto Rican FALN
Attack of NYC midtown buildings in 1977. The five biggest in loss of life and mass
injuries are 911, 2007 simultaneous car bombings in Iraq, 1978 Fiore in Abadan
Iran, 2004 Beslan Russia school hostage taking in and Irish Air space Air India
bombing.
Cowering
in the dark corner will only allow the barbarians to
control the light.
Feeling
the beauty in the hearts of the French:
Yesterday while reading the Sunday, I played all
French composers – Durufle, Faure, Franc, Berlioz and Saint Sans. The emotions
were chilling and uplifting; provocative and tenderly feeling. I remember once
when walking near the Sorbonne in Paris coming upon a massive student protest. Maybe
a thousand or so young people were walking down the middle of the street
singing powerfully and in unison, Les Marseilles. I was paralyzed by their apparent
patriotic pride, mesmerized by the beauty of their voices:
*The lights of Paris have been
darkened by pure evil. But true light will never fade. The French will mourn
and be joined by the world of good people. The goodness in the hearts of French
people and all of those who’s hearts are with them, will cut thought the darkness
of malevolence. We will not cower in corners. We will not be betrayed by false
prophets. Those with no respect for human life cannot survive in a world of
light. I do not understand, and never will.
