Nectar is in the eye of the beholder.

Today's tdis Issue 3,457
Opening Stuff:

You can have your apples and your pumpkins – good eating in the crisp air of the Fall is crusty roast loin of pork smothered in rich, creamy hot gravy. Are my eyes getting misty, or is that the steam wafting up from hot meat? “The falling leaves drift by my window, the Autumn leaves of red and gold. I see your lips, the summer kisses, the sun burned hands I used to hold…” Are you humming yet?

How do you make black pepper? Yesterday, the Tids Food editor listed the world’s peppers by heat intensity. I wondered this morning exactly where tasty back pepper came from, so I Googled and initially I got several white papers on diversity, and a Kardashian news release on Lamar Odin. It was surprisingly hard to find that Black Ppper came from India and still does. The original Peppercorns discovered about 4,000 years ago in the Kerala State in India are the dried berries of the Piper nigrum flowering vine. India is still a major producer but these same jungle style pepper plants are now grown for their berries to dry in Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia, which are also major producers.

One big reason why wages will never come back to the middle class at the levels they were in the heyday fifties into the nineties is that Manufacturing in American today only employs 9% of the population. The industry that made America great still accounts for 30% of the GDP, which means that it is still very productive indeed. But drives towards productivity necessarily eliminates jobs, or sends them to lower wages foreign countries. Here, our service jobs are not now necessarily productive, meaning that it takes lots of bodies to produce sales, with the result that sustaining profitability will require lowering of wages or more intense moves toward automation. And, every time that the Big Gov mandates programs on businesses like min wages or family leave acts, the pressure to reduce people involvement increases. Actually, It sounds kind of hopeless, doesn’t it.

Speaking of pressure, a lot of people, and I mean a lot of “Boomer“ people, are becoming concerned about their financial needs for retirement. When asked what contemporary temptations have the biggest drain on savings, number one by a wide margin was dining out at 68%”. The others were buying clothes (37), entertainment (35), Hobbies (29), Travel (24) and Car (8%). Notice the number of service jobs that if shunned for savings in favor of spending. Will the huge boomer segment cut back on these purchase too. It’s a conundrum.

The cost of a ticket to the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” is about $300!

The Question:
Somebody figured out how to measure the IQ’s of Presidents. What Ten do you think have/had the highest IQ? Bonus: What are the biggest turn-offs to men and women about the opposite sex, or potential partners?

There is a huge difference between today’s tech stock explosion and the Dot.Com disaster of 2001. The main reason, in addition to the ridiculous overvaluations of the 2001 hysteria, was the novelty of the Internet and the severe lack of knowledge about it in those days of its infancy (Or perhaps Toddler times) 14 years ago. Now we’re smart…right?

Barak Obama: “The Bypass President”. And it isn’t good for my USA heart.

The Voice last night proved to me once again that I am a country boy first, as all of my favorites were Nashville types topped by Shelby Brown, and with enjoyable tunes from James Dupre and Emily Ann Roberts. But, I did see talent in some of the rest like Jeffery Austin and Rielly Biderer. Regina Love’s powerhouse voice and performance brought down the house, but it was a little too much for me. Nadja Nicole, ousted, was pretty good as was Mark Hood who made it but is not living up to earlier promise. Frankly I thought several of the performers last night like Kota Wade, Tim Atlas and at times the young quirky talent Shiana Im were flat, maybe due to nerves, but for sure gaining the “TKCS” Tids award. (TKCS = The Kid Can’t Sing). The problem is that so many of the performances last night were so ordinary that this memory of mine this morn is full of holes, missing a few notes. For instance, Evan McKeel won his bout and I don’t remember him at all.

Writing the Tids is a little like playing golf. In golf, I know intensely that lifting my head during the swing is death to good shot making. In writing I know to the bottom of my heart that typos make for shoddy appearing conversations. But, I still do it all of the time. I think both of those incapacities are the bane of a dreamer.

News items and TV ads are heralding the approach of the “Idaho Potato Truck”. This is bad for America. I’ve known some Idaho folks, and they are really, really nice people, but those mealy practiucally tasteless potatoes are clearly overrated and can’t compare to the taste of Maine, RI and other Eastern Potatoes. Through advertising and public relations we get bad potatoes and worse government officials.

Did you see where the current ecoli scare out West apparently from food from Chipotle Grill has been blamed on Lettuce. Call me a health nut, but I refuse to eat lettuce. In particular lettuce that comes pre-shredded in plastic bags.

The Parking Lot: Chapter 25.
Nancy had spent much of the morning back at her home, gathering all of the valuable family papers and land surveys. She had this feeling in her gut that nothing at her home was safe, and in particular herself. It was sad to abandon it, as this place had been serving-her family well though wars and industrial revolutions for nearly 350 years. But, she knew that emotional decisions were always bad when survival was the prize. She had t leave the palce as sterile as possible. She took a deep breath, picked up her satchel full of memories and critical legal papers and started down the path to her canoe.
Her phone rang, and in the process of trying to reach it she dropped the bag, nearly into the lake’s water’s edge. The phone went flying as she dove to save the valuable documents just before it began to tumble over.
She sat there laughing at herself as she sat with her butt half in the water, listening to the phone continuing to ring. Somebody must be really anxious to talk she thought as she found it in the bushes and pressed talk. “Hello,” she said in a questioning voice.
“Sorry, to bother you Nancy, this is your best friend, Fred Hohlman. I need to talk to you. I’m near your home.”
“I’m not there, Best friend, and why would you all of a sudden be nice to me. I’m not interested in making your life easier.”
“I got problems, Nancy. I think we should talk.” Now Nancy paused for a couple of seconds.
“Maybe we should Fred, but since I’ve been assaulted along with some of my friends, I pick places to talk, and it certainly wouldn’t be my home. I’ll call you”. She ended the call before he could talk. Now she was sure she had to get out of their fast.

The Answer:
#1 is John Quincy Adams at 168.8. The rest are Thomas Jefferson (!58), JFK, Bill Clinton, Woodrow Wilson. Jimmy Carter, John Adams, Teddy Roosevelt, James Garfield and at 10 Chester A. Arthur. Bonus: #’s1 and 2 reason to dump potential mates for both men and woman is “Disheveled” and “Lazy”. Lazy is #1(71%) for women Disheveled #1 (72%) for men, but they are very close. For women other reasons that gained over 50% reaction are “Too needy”, “No Sense Of Humor” and “Bad sex”.  For men it was similar with too needy and no sense of humor, but “Lives far away” topped bad sex which was 44%. The rest for women were Lives far away, “Lacks Confidence”, “Too much TV-Video games”, “Stubborn”, “Low Sex Drive”, “Talks Too much” and “Too quiet”. Then rest for men in order was Low Sex drive, Lacks confidence, Stubborn, Talks too much, Too much TV-VG and Too quiet.

This song came up on a best songs for Autumn list. I don’t quite see it, but I like listening to it. https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-006&ei=utf-8&fr=ytff1-yff16&p=all%20my%20days%20alexi%20murdoch&type=
