I
really think that people are considerably happier now
that the heat of summer seems to be passing. Tell me what is better: Lying sweaty
on hot sand baking in the summer sun; or in the autumn sitting on a sunlit
jetty cooled by wind driven mist off of waves breaking on rocks.
I
think that my next new addiction will be extra sharp
aged provolone cheese.
Most
of the big recessions lately are the result of over expansion
in some hot industry – mindless investors and financial advisors racing headlong
beyond reasonability. Many are beginning
to say that the next big collapse could be in the health industry, which is
building more facilities that not only don’t have enough customer base, but can’t
be adequately staffed or managed. And then there is the big pot of gold in the sky,
ObamaCare, which continues to break down. Maybe we should start looking at who
is holding the notes for all of these medical growth schemes and dreams.

America’s
Got talent had their finals last night, and of course the
judges over-gushed on the quality of every, and I mean every performance. One
thing that is becoming obvious is that the number of singers in the finals is
no accident. Simon Cowell knows that singers get the ratings and he as the head
man changed the concept to bring more aboard. My two favorite acts are Gayle Vandrwaal and Sofie
Dossi, who just light up the stage. Vanderwalal is outstanding. I like Linkin’ Bridge,
and that Jon Dorenbus who has a decent act and a great presence. The judges
express amazement at The Clairvoyants, but the duo didn’t show me much last night.
They are starting to look gimmicky. I am always amazed at the 14 yo opera
singer Laura Bretan. The audience and girls everywhere love Justin Brian Crum,
who is a good crooner in the Eddie Fisher style. Juggler Viktor Kee creates beautiful
auras, but the act rarely varies – it is more a dance act with balls. People
who like Sinatra love Sal Valentinetti, but I get tired of it, even though his voice
is outstanding. His personality, though, is a little overwhelming for me. And then
there is Tape Face who I didn’t think should have made it to the finals. But
last night he had me smiling with an act that is very hard to describe – yet reminding
us of a combo of Stan Laurel, Charlie Chaplain and Harold Lloyd. So who is going
to win? I would pick Gayle Vanderwaal who is much more than just a12 year old
surprise. She is a super talent, and she just happens to be the odds on
favorite at 5/6. Next is Crum 10/3, Clairvoyants 12’1, Dorenbus 16/1 and Tape
Face at 28/1. The rest in order are Bretan 50/1, Valentinetti 50/1, Bridge 65/1,
Dossi 100/1 and Kee 100/1. But then, you never know about these voters.
The
good news is that after today you won’t have to wade through
one of these AGT diatribes for another year! EeeeeeHah!
Media
Deterioration, Department:
Clinton Broadcasting System has appeared pretty
fair-minded for a few years, probably because they thought Hillary was a shoe-in.
– the numbers all pointing to an easy victory. But of late they must have seen
something that has them panicked. For instance, yesterday on their nightly news
they edited out the word “frequently” in the Bill Clinton segment where he said
of his wife, “She Frequently had dizzy spells”. Also in that same program they
invited John Dickerson to comment on the “Deplorables” comment, and health
situation of their candidate. Rather than a political analysis, he stepped in as
the all-out protector of Hillary with a pretty blatant defense that turned into
a slam Trump event. So much for the Face the Nation neutrality.
Yesterday
I wrote “My Deep seeded beliefs...” which some creative thinker
might acknowledge as a refreshing, metaphorical way to say “Deep Seated beliefs…”
Now, of course Deep Seated” is the grammatical preference, but not if you want to
see your beliefs as something that should be nurtured and flourishing. See, I would
say that the beliefs of Jesus were deep seeded as they grew into lush love
which spread though out the world. You see, deep seated beliefs are by their
nature steadfast, unwilling to be altered; rigid tenets that never feel the warm
rays of a nourishing sun. Sometimes grammar is good, and other times it is good
to take a second look. Nothing is forever.

This
morning I saw an article that use the words “Fashion” and “Under
Armor” in the same sentence. Say what? It appears that the execs of this hot
sports clothing company are not happy with their position in the fashion world
as defined by Puma, Nike and Adidas. Yes, that fashion world. So, they have
hired some designers to make them competitive. Let’s hope they can keep the
logo under 4 inches high.
A
funny Hillary thing landed on my machine yesterday: “Why
can you people not understand? The medical problems I don’t have are the reason
I can’t remember the criminal acts I didn’t commit.”
Charlie
Rose is acknowledged as a pretty good guy and interviewer,
But, honest, how helpful is an interview with Bill Clinton to get at the truth about
his wife; and why his Foundation isn’t corrupt. An interview with a man who would
love to be “First Man” and back in the White House again. Every answer was a
spin of the evidence against her or an academic sounding analysis in support of
any issue on which she has taken a position. “She will not have sexual
relations with deplorables.” He set an agenda for an America which many don’t want.
Personally, I thought Clinton was one of the most superficial presidents of all
times, except of course when he was laid bare with his pants down. He is
considered a great politician and therein lies the problem.
The
Parking Lot: Chapter 69 continues…
The well-dressed
business people and politicians around the large table sat in silence as the woman
continued to talk. Many had serious questions, but they knew that it was better
not to express them in a meeting like this. Many were now regretting that they
had eagerly agreed to join the project when it was offered, but nothing is or
had proceeded as smoothly as promised.
This was to
be the biggest land grab in recent history. Most of those present jumped aboard
the opportunity primarily because it was supported by AG McGuire. But his
murder in dramatic fashion had them all worried. Some had inklings long before
the death that something was very wrong with this deal as it lingered. Others
didn’t care as long as the paycheck arrived in the end.
The group
sat looking at the table not really hearing the words. They had heard plenty
from Claudia Howland and her son the Lieutenant Governor. It is often said around
the state that LG had little to do, but Jerry Howland had spent plenty of time in
the land deed archives.
Jerry, who
now sat stoically next to his mother, wife of the heir to the Howland holdings,
had told them that he found land ownership of almost 68% of Tiverton loosely
tied to old Wampanoag agreements, and the Hicks family. He and his mother had
told the “investors” that they were about to make a deal with the key Hicks
heir. They didn’t say that the deal was to take Nancy out and gain access to
all of the land records, and the key to ownership – the engraved cameo of Masetta.
The
Answer:
Grace Kelley was magic. She was a star who became a
Princess. Her movies meant box office success. And she died horribly and much
too young, like another Princess we know. Her best movies are in order Rear
Window, Dila M For Murder, To Catch a Thief, High Society, The Country Girl,
High Noon, Mogambo, The Bridges at Toko-Ri, Fourteen Hours, The Swan, Green
Fire and Terror in the Aisles. Bonus: Her co-star list is like a who’s who of Hollywood:
James Stewart, Alfred Hitchcock, Ray Milland, Gary Grant, Bing Crosby, Frank
Sinatra, William Holden, Gary Cooper, Micky Rooney, John Cassavantes, Alec Guinness,
Stewart Granger and Clint Eastwood. Her female costars weren’t chopped liver
either – Ava Gardner, Agnes Moorehead, Jane Fonda and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Nearly
100 million people watched Grace Kelley’s funeral.
Rent
an old movie. It could become a habit.
