For Courage:
What
the government leaders and media often forget is that honest,
hardworking good people get angry too. Most daily toilers are too busy earning
a living or raising families to feel the early pushes from overzealous bureaucrats,
but when they do, watch out. The USA is everybody’s country, and those who day
after day provide the stability are often the most taken for granted. And people
don’t like being taken for granted. So don’t be surprised if applecarts are
upset this November.
Has
the weekend Merkle defeat meant that anti-Immigrant voting has
become a global trend? By the way, UK is recovering quite nicely after Brexit.
State
Election Department Bureaucrats are boasting of their
moves to electronic, digital voting machines. Which just happens to be great for
Party Chiefs with good hackers on their staffs.
Thank
God for Phyllis Shlafly. I was sorry to hear of her
passing, but like all good people she will pass into a better place.
Ok,
we are into the first full week of September and the money
pros are taking a serious look at the investment markets. First to notice is
that the Stocks/Bonds traditional relationship is out of whack – they are running
in tandem instead of offsetting each other. Second, Dividend stocks valuations
are so high that their upside market appeal has been reduced to nil. Third,
keep an eye on the US dollar because a lot depends on its global stability. Also,
we see Russia and the Saudis making a big oil deal which reading between the
lines could mean reduced production and higher prices. Keep an eagle high on reports
coming out of Wall Street. They mean much more now than they did in the Summer.
Can you say Lehman Brothers.
The
Question:
Who was Iva Toguri Aquino? Bonus: The first “Self Service” food market with a quirky name
opened in 1916. It is still around today. What is its name?

I
have believed for years that America would be better off if
companies weren’t forced to manufacture quarterly reports. I believe that the US
corporations have lost a foothold in many an industry over the years because of
this, and many a job has been lost in the paper shuffle. Good for biz kids, but
not so great for society at large. But executives have been able to buy two, three,
four houses which is good for the building trades. But…bad for scenic lush countryside’s
and exotic views of the ocean.
Nothing
like a good hurricane day when everything slows down, and
the TV still works.
I
loved seeing Rory McElroy getting back to his old form. His
win was exciting and impressive. Having him back on the top is good for golf.
I don’t quite
understand “Alter Casting”. But, I do understand that people jump upon
psycotrends, and this could be the next big one – especially if it becomes the
socially correct thing to do in NYC and LA. Actually this is a 1963 concept
that has been implemented for decades in advertising. Now it has been newly
applied, probably by enterprising psychologists, to relationships where, for
instance, one mate can push the other to become a predetermined image.
Basically it can be as simple as a husband saying, “all good wives bake
cookies,” the drive being that most wives want to be good wives. On the other hand,
the wife could say, “all good husbands take out the garbage.” Here’s a classic
example from an auto manufacturer: “All good mothers want their kids to be safe
and happy when being driven to soccer practice, so buy “X” van!” In other words
you prey on people’s egos and self-images to get them to do what you want. It
can be very subtle and a mate may be manipulated before they know what is
happening to their disappearing self.
There seems to
be an abundance of computer glitches popping up in airlines around the
world. It is almost looking like there is too much discombobulation just to be considered
accidental. If it is hacking, you have to wonder what else more serious could they
hack into.
I find it hard
to imagine
that if I had an extra million dollars I would put it into buying motor home.
But, people do, and I scratch my head.
The Philippine
Prez
has an order out to gun down drug dealers as you see them. Let’s hope all of
them don’t run here for safety.
I see where Hill
has anew plane
big enough for Reporters. How much do you want to bet that the scribes are all friendly
to her, and we will be seeing orchestrated news blips.
Some of the most
soothing, and melodic, music can be found in classical choral and
orchestral requiems. One of which I have just discovered in my box of rarely
played pieces is Berlioz Requiem Op 5.
The Answer:
Iva
was “Tokyo Rose” the US born Japanese propagandist during WWII. She was tied
and sentenced, and eventually pardoned by Gerald Ford. Bonus: One day in 1916 in a customer walked into a store called Piggly
Wiggly and the clerk said, just go to the shelves and help yourself, Y’all.
Thus was born today’s shopping markets.
I get real tired
of people making excuses for bad and irresponsible behavior and telling me
that I should think like that too. Phyllis Shlafly never backed down.
