For the Heroes:
Did
I write “Never Forget” last year on the eve of the anniversary
of the saddest, scariest day in modern American history. The day the world
wept. The day America stood still, for a second or two…until Flags arose on
street corners and highways and Americans stood tall vowing to always remember.
And people in one voice sang out, God Bless America. If I did say that last
year, then it’s good that I do it again. For I have noticed that so many people
don’t seem remember, or adjust the facts for personal ideologies. Young people
have never heard of the Beatles, Neil Young or Karen Carpenter, and their minds
are fleeting, consumed by the latest in social communications. Is 911 something
in the haze of what is happening today? Never again. We must never soften,
always realize that we are hated. We have an invisible enemy that never forgets
their hate. We must never forget what hate had wrought.
I’m
getting real tired of daily news blips about somebody kneeling
or sitting during the National Anthem.
I am also
becoming a little nervous after yesterday and NK’s newest Nuke test. World authorities
are not laughing anymore; not minimizing Kim boasts as irrelevant. The country
has improved missile strike capability from land and sea, and obviously nuclear
competence. China, Korea and Japan must be sitting up a little straighter wondering
how to appeal to this despot who would kill his own relatives and high ranking
officials in the twinkling of an eye. Rational people would sit back and say no
human would want to begin a war so violent, so mutually destructive. But, then we
are dealing with a known, yet, strangely, unknown personality. Would he wake up
one morning and think, it looks like a good day for me to press the button.
The
Question:
Who
are these people?
Sylvia Miles, Dee Dee Sharp, Tom Wopat, Constance
Marie, and Julia Sawalha

One
of the silliest thing about Obama is his strange
obsession about shutting down Guantanamo. It is though a great example of the illogic’s
of campaign promises.
The
New very cool looking stealth destroyer Zumwalt
is in town. I’ll be down looking at it later. This is actually close to me as
it was the subject of my first novel as published in The Tids maybe ten years
ago. It was about a handful of lovable characters, a computer programmer, hedge
fund investor and FBI agent, discovering a plot funded by US backers coerced by
Terrorist groups who were rewriting the code for the ships highly touted computerized
weaponry system. It opened in the Fleece department of LL Bean. I still ache
for a couple of characters I had to kill.
Iraq
is gearing up for the big Mosul offensive. The US has
sent in 400 more troops to assist in the effort. This is a key move in the battle
against ISIS and comes coincidently in the home stretch of the Hillary
campaign. Let’s hope she doesn’t wear a helmet to the first debate! Can you say
Dukakis.
I
have been told that the best weapon against bats is a
tennis racket. Just in case you are interested.
It’s
more than likely that most of the negative news about
Pepsi and Coke, or traditional foods is propagated by so-called health food and
drink manufacturers. Health food manufacturers and marketers are just as greedy
as traditional food processors; they just give bigger hugs.
Did
you see where the new Mercedes delivery vans are
coming with Drones! I don’t know about you, but I just can’t get my hands around
the idea of drones flying around the streets. I guess I’m not as visionary as millennials.
Some
Dems defend Obama as great because he kept his promises. Repubs
are against Obama because of his promises.
The
attacks on Matt Lauer after the hill questioning tells me
that the left was quite content with the rigged biased press. They seem to hate
getting at the truth.
Paul
Ryan was seen recently sitting on a park bench by the
Lincoln Memorial, head down, mumbling over and over – “Why me, Why me…”
In case you
missed it, Target
says it is making big changes to their food business which Wal-Mart and big supermarket
chains should fear. The food business is becoming very completive and very
crowded. Most of the new changes are directed at the millennials, who’s food
desires differ significantly from traditional buyers. Whole foods, for instance,
has developed an entirely new chain called 365 just for the younger generation.
I can easily see a big transformation over time, but no matter the trends I
will always seek out tasty orange sacks, brown, sugar free drinks and every possible
iteration of meat based gravy.
I person told me
yesterday that it’s ok to pay higher prices for organic foods because it
is harder to keep bugs off growing plants without chemicals. Sure.
Reading Between
the Lines Movie Reviews:
--When
I first heard of the Movie, Sully, based on the landing of the plane in the Hudson
river, I thought, I know the ending. But
it is more and Hanks is very good portraying a nationally hero who internally
finds himself questioned.
--When
the Bough Breaks is new film about an old tale. A young married couple having
trouble getting pregnant, hire a surrogate. Of course the surrogate falls for
the Husband. It has some of those “Fatal Attraction” overtones and the battle
is on to regain the home from the crazed intruder.
--The
Disappointments Room is another psychological thriller. This could be good as a
couple and their 5 year old son move from Brooklyn NY to a classic old southern
mansion. The woman discovers a secret room unleashing mysterious events that test
her sanity, eventually revealing an evil secret about the home’s past.
The Answer:
Sylvia
Miles, who was the First “Sally” (Rose Marie) on the Dick Van Dyke Show Pilot
was twice nominated for an Oscar for Midnight Cowboy and Farewell My Lovely.
Dee Dee was an R&B singer with four 1967 Billboard Top 100 hits – #3 Slow
Twistin’ singing with Chubby Checker, and by herself #2 for Mashed Potato Time, #5 for “Ride”, #9 for “Gravy”
(for the mashed my potato) and #10 for Do The Bird. Tom Wopat is best known for
his popular role as
Luke Duke on Dukes Of Hazard. Constance Marie had a pretty good career in several movie roles, but is probably best known for her role as Angie Lopez on The George Lopez Show. Julia Sawalha is a pretty accomplished British Actress who is best known as Saffron Monsoon in Absolutely fabulous. (But not by me). She is also remembered for her role of Lynda Day in Press Gang and also as Lydia Bennet in the 1995 Miniseries Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice. BTW, her father was a pretty good character actor appearing in several Bond movies.

It’s about time
I get
seriously back into Tids Novel #5, The Parking Lot.
Have a great
weekend,
