Today's Tids Issue

Fundamentalism:
Too
much of today’s political infighting is not entirely about
differences in issues and ideologies but mainly about revenge for past revenges
mainly to assure power retention. If we could break the cycle of hateful revenge
response, we may get back to humane human relationships, with a little understanding
thrown in. Yes, even in politics.
Shakespeare
often said about his wife Anne, “She hath a way bout her.”
The
Tids political science department is announcing a new measurement
tool -- the Loonymeter. It was developed in response to those who clamor for a
means to attempt to understand who is on top the Dem presidential primary
campaigns. The big problem for candidates is to rise above the noise. The loony
meter helps isolate those who have reached crazed status as they dream up outré
ideas to stimulate flagging campaigns and rapid declines. This week Elizabeth Warren
leads the pack with a solid 88.5 lunacy rating. An increase in the Loonymeter
scale is directly corelated to declining ratings.
Panic
may even lead to more destruction than revenge.
One
of the newest great American inventions are Blue Bunny loaded sundaes.
The only negative thing about them is trying to figure which of these glorious temptations
to pick. From “Bunny Tracks” loaded with vanilla Ice Cream and caramel/chocolate
fudge swirls and Chocolaty Peanut Butter bunnies, to a peanut butter ice cream
loaded with pea-nutty fudge swirls and chocolate peanut butter cups. Tougher to
pick than a Dem candidate, but these rate higher on the sanity meter.

Up
in Washington state there is a law about to be passed that would
allow human composting. Dump old granddad in the garden or in the woods behind the
house and a let him return as a tree. In a hundred years the tree would die
like all trees do and, in the cleanup, he would become many chips off the old
block.
Easter
family hugs are great until you realize that a chocolate
caramel Easter egg in your breast pocket has melted, and your glasses are now
glued to the bottom. What a sweet predicament that is.
It
really is tough to take anything political seriously. I
don’t want to be governed by outrageousness, but by thoughtful non-clamorous sensibility.
Unfortunately, thoughtfulness doesn’t get votes.
As
much as I hate to admit it, newspapers don’t have much
life left in them. I have been reading digitally for years, and I hope it will continue
from local sources. I certainly don’t want to have to rely on national big hitters
for my news, especially the local stuff which is the most important most of the
time. National combines have tried to offer pap as a tinge of local good feelings,
but it really never works well.
I
waded through a lot of ordinary performances, to me, on The Voice
last night. In fact, it became boring. Is it me, or does all of today’s music
sound the same? While there were obviously many talented people on the stage last
night, the songs just melted together blunting their individuality. I thought
Karly Moreno’s song was nutty. I wish the trio, the Bundy’s, had a better song
choice, because I’d like to see them stay. I thought that Jej Vinson and LB
Crew were both good singers, but thought I thought songs so-so. Hope they both stay.
Also very good was Shawn Sounds. In addition to the Bundys my personal favorites
of the night were Rebecca Howell and Gyth Rigdon. Though, Howell has a battle on
her hands singing against Beth Griffith-Manley. Fans voting on last night had
the top five as Jej Vinson, Shawn Sounds, Gyth Rigdon, Beth Griffith-Manley and
LB Crew.
The
Anti-Columbus Day people are on the war path again. They try
to make a case that one man who just happened to bump into an island in the Caribbean
which eventually resulted in opening the west to the more advanced European/Asian
civilizations -- destroyed the world as we knew it. Anti-Columbus advocates
rank 91.2 % on the Loonymeter.
Restaurants
have become much too creative with their menus.
Maybe
they could change it to Mark Zuckerman day. Talk about changing
the way the world collaborated.
Pelosi’s
Letter says to me that she is all for impeachment,
but she wants it to evolve naturally and not as a response to hysteria.
The
Answer:
Frank Robinson is $10 followed by Sammy Sosa, Jim
Thome, Ken Griffey Jr., Albert Pujols, Willie Mays, Alex Rodriguez, Babe Ruth, Hank
Aaron and at 31 Bobby Bonds. Mighty Ted Williams, the last plater to bat 400,
is tied with Willie McCovey and Frank Thomas for #20, but may have been near the
top if he hadn’t volunteered to fight in WWII and the Korean situation where he
was a fighter pilot. The top ten in HR’s/at bat are Mark McGuire, Babe Ruth,
Barry Bonds, Jim Thome, Giancarlo Stanton, Khris Davis, Ralph Kiner, Harmon Killebrew,
Sammy Sosa and Ted Williams.
Well,
it’s
almost time for The Price Is Right. But more and more, I’m finding that eh
prices are out of sight for just about anything. See you all tomorrow, perhaps with
a little sunlight.
