Progressive is regressive.

Today's Tids Issue 4.693

Menial tasks are refreshing:

There’s a nice chill in the air this morning, but it doesn’t feel like football season yet.

While the intolerants with the bull horns and closed minds seem to be making all of the progress in society, I believe we are still a nation dominated by caring human beings regardless of what party they belong to. But it is good to beware of what is slithering beneath us.

My only current large personal problem is potato chips. Cheetos are healthier.

Why is mask wearing divided along party lines? Why do people irrationally subject themselves to parties instead of thinking for themselves?

You may have read that big money managers are thinking that Tech stock ownership is a bit over crowded. Overcrowding leads to potential wild, swinging volatility. 42% of large money managers think they are overweighed in techs. The problem is that professional investors are having trouble finding other sectors of interests, so they are disregarding their own rules of balance, generally not a good trend. How far up is too far up for techs? I’m thinking that banking is underweighted. (Note, almost as over weighted as techs are bio companies. You know, corona and all.) But then, I’ve always been a pretty good theorist. Some would call it, Dreamer.

The Question:

Some characters with whom you may be quite familiars have real names you probably don’t know. But you can try – What are the real names of “Goofy”, “The Cookie Monster”, “E.T.”, “Sonic the Hedgehog”, “Alf”, “Jughead Jones” (Archie) and “The Wizard of Oz’?

The Headlines:

--Dow Opens Strong Following Moderna Vaccine Test Announcement Late Tuesday; Goldman Stock Runs Up After Strong Profit Showing.

--Moderna Says It’s First Test Of Their Covid-19 Vaccine Produced Promising Results.

--China Vows Retaliation After Trump Signs Hong Kong Sanctions Bill; Future For Trade Progress Diminishes.

--Trump Rescinds Rule Against International Student Online Learning After Colleges File Suit.

--Timmy Tuberville Stops Sessions Bid To Return to Senate; Trump Candidates Seem To Do Well In Texas And Alabama; Progressive Gains Indicate Division In Dem Party.

--NYC Black Leaders Call For Return Of NYPD Anti-Crime Unit.

--Nick Cannon Dropped By CBS After Making Anti-Semitic Remarks.

--US Navy Warship Challenges China In South China Sea.

--Iran Executes One Of Their Defense Military Staffers As Alleged CIA Spy.

As one example how things improve with age, the distasteful smell from boiled eggs permeate a home for hours, while the sweet aroma from a boiling a chicken promises deliciousness to come.

I see where The Hill came out yesterday or Monday warning the Dems to be aware that Trump, if he loses, maybe a sore loser who not leave the White House. This from a woman who knows, and is still making up new excuses on why she lost.

What would comedians do without politicians?

A sous-chef at a convent is second to nun.

Even though the USA has been reparating for slavery for years under the guise of innumerable Government programs, the cry for reparations is once again emerging as the BLM fever has spawned collateral demands. You have to wonder what the millions of immigrants from Italy and Ireland and Germany and Poland and everywhere else are thinking about this. As one wag says, “People who have never owned slaves would pay slavery reparations to people who have never been slaves.”

That’s like asking people who have never been to college to pay the debts of college students two took out huge loans to get their college degrees. Or minimum wage earners bailing out banks.

“Tommy Tuberville” for Senate. Sounds like a comic strip.

The Patriot League joined the Ivy in moving all Fall sports to the Spring. While the colleges and universities in those leagues that play sports mostly for student gratification and college pride. it’s a different story in the big leagues where it is all about mega millions. Major college football is a first and foremost a profit center, and Presidents of these academic institutions have gotten used to the football cash rolling in. They want to do the right thing, but money talks. So the possibility of subjecting kids to viral infections is one option definitely in play to keep the cash flow streaming. Playing for pride has become playing for survival. Decisions will have to be made in the next several weeks. And TV and radio sorts talkers can hardly wait to criticize.

If you think there are better places to live outside the US, consider that last week the President of the Philippines closed down the country’s largest TV network because they criticized him.

I’m enjoying Dr. Foster on Netflix and Perry Mason on HBO Go.

Thoughtful writers at the NY Times continue to leave as the intolerable left leaning youngsters shout their own comrades down for writing sensible balanced columns that disagree with their immovable views. The latest is Bari Weiss, a NY T Opinion Editor, who wrote as she left, “Intelligent curiosity is now a liability at the Times.” Another well known Times editor Andrew Sullivan, who also just stepped aside, supported Weiss opinion saying that a “woke” culture is crowding out dissenting opinion. Have you been to a Campus journalism school lately? Weiss also wrote, “Instead a new consensus has also emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job it is to enlighten everybody else.”

I tuned in the Trump press conference yesterday afternoon because I was interested to hear what was happening in China. I tuned out within minutes as it became an I, me presidential resume.

Oldies but Punnies, Department:

--Yesterday I accidently swallowed some food coloring. The doctor says I’m Ok, but I feel like I’ve dyed a little inside.

--Ok. so in the dessert, a large population of Nomads were led by a bold leader named Benny. He had a magnificent long and full beard which in their culture was essential for a leader. But the years had taken its toll and he began to feel uncomfortable with the monster face bush, and also a bit itchy. He wanted to shave it all off, so he called village council meeting. The wise man there said you can’t do it as a leader because if a leader does shave, legend says he will turn into earthenware. But being headstrong, Benny didn’t listen and shaved it all. As he nicked off the last whisker, a dust storm arose, and the council saw before them a man-sized clay vessel. Then they new, “A Benny shaved is a Benny urned.”

The Answer:

Goofy’s real name is said to be George Geef. TCM is Sidney, E.T. is Zrek, Sonic was born as Ogilvie Maurice Hedgehog, Alf was born Gordon Shumway on Planet Melmac, Jughead is Forsythe Pendleton Jones III and The Wizard is Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmanuel Ambrose Diggs! Yikes! Just in case you are interested, Jabba the Hutt’s full name is Jabba Desilijic Tiure.

Covid has been a boom for the National nightly news networks with David Muir of ABC leading Lester Holt of NBC. In fact, the Covid impetuous has been so good, that even Norah O’Donnell is moving up in the rating charts. Nightly news programs are out rating the primetime TV efforts. Of course, most primetime TV efforts have been cancelled. In case you are interested, for the second quarter 2020, ABC brought an average of 10,331,000 viewers while NBC hit 8,866,000 and CBS was at 6,275,000. So, you can expect to see front loaded repetitive Covid reports for months to come. I’m switching to the Food Network.

Other than putting a period at the end of this mess, I don’t know if I’ve accomplished anything yet today. Regrouting the bath tub seems like a possibility. I think it beats being woke.

Speaking of periods, it is the favorite punctuation of convicts. It is at the end of a sentence. I should have quit at grouting.
