Today's Tids Issue 4,955
Endless Opportunities:
Ok, it’s been a couple of years now since we have been forced to use paper bags in local Grocery stores. They are awful. I have 8 hookable fingers which means I can carry up to 8 bags into the house at once. There are several places off-Island where I can still shop and get plastic bags, and I always seem happier leaving there. I know there are millions upon hundreds of millions of people who have never thrown a plastic bag into the ocean. Personal responsibility is most always the answer to much of our human ills, but the government always resorts to banning something instead of upgrading people’s standards.
I was at a breakfast Friday with a bunch of good old guys who often reflect on tales of heroic feats upon athletic fields of yore. One of them rose to talk about a recent accomplishment of his. He helped inspire the organization of the NYC Ticker Tape Parade for the heroes of Covid from Nurses to Sanitation Workers and everybody in between. He said his theme song would be, “When the Saints Go Marching In”.
Some days I look back and realize that a few of these daily Tids I write are actually good. It’s too bad that so often one day words are seen and the following day new words are craved. Maybe after I finish the 5,000th Today’s Tids I could spend my time writing the book, “The Best of Tids”. I wonder if it would be a long or short book.
A reader suggests, “we should train Amazon delivery drivers to give the vaccine. The whole population would be immunized by Saturday, Thursday if you have Prime”
Another reader who may have cocktail or to tells me he has noticed that a lot of USA towns are named after their water towers.
How about that Colin Marakowa. how cool and talented is he?
The Question:
Who was the first ever Olympic gymnast to earn a perfect “10”? Bonus: 515 years ago the British parliament passed a law about the Papacy. What was it? Extra Bonus: A popular movie in 1961 was “By Love Possessed” starring Lana Turner, George Hamilton, Jason Robards and Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. with a theme song sung by Vic Damone. It was dubbed, “an Ivy League Peyton Place”. But it was really known for markings a USA first. What was that achievement?

How many times before have I said that Elgar’s Nimrod from his Enigma Variations is perhaps the most beautiful piece of romantic, passionate music ever written? It still is.
Isn’t interesting that a musical piece that so well expresses love and romance is named an “Enigma’, a conundrum, or as the king of Siam would say to Anna, “It’s a Puzzlement” Yes, love is quiet the mystery.
PJ O’Rourke: “You can’t get rid of poverty by giving people Money.”
I don’t like the rapidly moving trend that says we can get all the protein we need by eating insects. Some people gage their meal selection by protein, carbs and fats. I gage it by the smile on my face.
I know a woman who picks fresh vegetables every day and feeds them to her pigs who convert them into bacon.
Heinz company to the rescue, finally! Heinz Company of Pittsburgh Pa has gone to war against the misguided American tradition of 8-Pack Buns and 6-Pack Hotdogs. Let’s put illogic beheinz us. Can we wiener ourselves away from the foolish safety net of always having two extra buns.
I always laugh when looking into a Supermarket seafood counter and seeing a sign for “Imitation Crabmeat”. Which is not crabmeat in the slightest regard. So, why buy it?
I think people are much closer to each other in their hearts than they are in their opinions. The heart never lies.
Many people will listen to an entire piano concerto just to enjoy one 45 second passage of pure beauty.
People who for all their lives have eaten hot dogs and chicken nuggets are now against vaccines because they don’t know what’s in them,
I would never say Politicians aren’t smart, or at least well educated. I would say they are basically useless in getting to things done for everybody.
I looked up definitions for the word politics the other day. Here are a couple: “Factional scheming for power and status.” “Methodology and activities associated with running a government, an organization, or a movement.” The often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a society. I flunked cooperate life style because I just never understood politics.
Unfortunately, Repubs are learning from the Dems that to get elected you have to buy votes with a lot of money you don’t have.
I was thinking yesterday that horrors!... my obit may be full of typos.
The Answer:
Nadia Comaneci of Romania shocked the world when she earned the first “10” ever given in Olympic gymnastics. Bonus: Parliament passed a law that voided the authority of the Pope in England. That probably also shocked the world. Extra Bonus: It was the first movie eve shown In-Flight on TWA in First class.
But the good news is that it is a new day and we have another great opportunity to make somebody happy, accomplish something. Happy New Week, E-v-e-er-y-b-o-d-y!!
