Yesterday I was that.

Today's Tids Issue 4,959

Adapting is not dangerous:

“The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress.” – Charles Kettering

Sometimes when I work to produce perspiration,

It generates positive Tids inspiration

Perhaps followed by acclamation,

And head nodding affirmation…

Leading to your all-around gratification!

(Though too often, Typo aggravation.)

Regardless of how beautiful an acapella version of the Star Spangled Banner may be to some, there is nothing as heart thumping as the Choir and organ of London’s Saint Paul’s Cathedral performing “God Save the Queen.”

(This is an equal opportunity national anthem critique site.)

The Question:

Who was the first person to hold the rank of, “General of the Army of the United States”? Multiple choice for a kinder and gentler Tids Q: Andrew Jackson, Randolf Macon, U.S. Grant, John Pershing, Omar Bradley, Dwight Eisenhower.

The Headlines:

--New Covid Concerns Dampen Stock Enthusiasm; Apple, Microsoft, Facebook And Alphabet To Report Earnings This Week; Investors Await.

--Major Medical Groups Call For Employers To Mandate Vaccinations For All Health Workers; NYC Looks To Have All City Workers Vaccinated By September.

--Tunisia President Ousts Government: Country’s Democracy In Jeopardy.

--Jan 6 Capitol Invasion Hearings Begin Tomorrow.

--Sandstorm In Utah Causes 20 Car Pileup Killing 7; Many Critically Injured Sent To Hospitals.

--Fires Continue To Rage In West.

Have you noticed that when major tragedies occur the news media always quick to emphasize the death of 1 to 3 children, when there may be 20 to 30 dead adults.
Don’t our intrepid journalists think the he death of adults are newsworthy. Oh, wait,.. they are acknowledged adults when they are parents of children.

How come good old protestant hymns are so rousing while catholic hymns are so stoic?

Silliest new statement from politicians, Department: This from Nancy P: The Pelosi contended the committee’s work will be “non-partisan.” “We’re there to get the truth, not to get Trump,” the speaker added. Sure, Nancy is never partisan.

The more you weigh, the harder it is to kidnap you. Eat chocolate. Stay Safe.

The restaurant on the moon was good, but it had no atmosphere.

After my attempt to romanticize Canada Geese last Friday, A good reader and local pond expert tells me that there are no redeeming qualities for Canadian Geese. Watch where you are walking and swimming.

I thought that “Shoe” the comic strip was kind of funny this morning, In case you missed it – “Dear Editor, how can I locate m y missing relatives.” Editor: “Renta cottage at the beach for the summer.”

So far the Pelosi Jan 6th inquisition has been about Liz Chaney and Kevin McCarthy exchanging barbs. That’s really all political is about any more and one reason many people are just tuning out the tube.

Because of Covid and changing cultural patterns, some pretty well-known restaurants are probably doomed They are: Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesday, Sbarro, The Gorup of Outback, Carrabba’s and Bonefish Grill, Five Guys, Bar Louis and Krystal. If you have been watching closely, these companies have been closing down blocks of store on a regular basis. The downsizing in many cases is due to declining popularity of big malls plus changing food treads.

I guarantee that we will all get tired of the nightly newscasts repeating over and over the videos of the crashing of the capitol buildings the Nancy patrol uncovers the “Truth?”

My favorite political commentator is Boston’s Howie Carr, who I heard last night describe the president as an Old man surrounded by elitist, activist, leftists.

“Change has a bad reputation in our society. But it isn’t all bad – not by any means. In fact, change is necessary in life – to keep us moving, to keep us growing, to keep us interested. Imagine life without change. It will be static, boring, dull.” – Dr. Dennis O’Grady

I hear that the Olympics viewership is way down. The opening event reached only 16.7 Millison, the lowest in 33 years. Is that a other result cultural trend changes?

The smartest thing the City of Boston ever did was to reject the Olympics.

Where I live, it’s been the coolest July that I can remember. Maybe we are in the Non-Global Warming Pocket. No change.

The Answer:

The first General of the Army of the United States was Ulyssis S. Grant.

The NFL training is beginning. Maybe that will help the Tids get a little more enthusiastic.

People don’t resist change. They resist being changed.”  -Peter Senge

A guy trying to rob a disco: “Everybody, hands up in the air!” Everybody: “YEAAHHH!!!! Wooohhoooo!!!”
