It’s a Nitpickers World

Today's Tids Issue 5,090

Let it go:

I think the prospects of a war at any level with Russia would severely limit any movement towards world peace. Yes, just a little sarcasm to illustrate the lunacy of such a decision. Can you even imagine what the consequences of a war with Russia would be? Maybe emboldening sympathizers China and probably NK? And Venezuela, a launching place in the Western hemisphere? It’s a disturbing scenario.

All of a sudden, The Fed is walking a tightrope. A month or so ago it was controlling its release of info about realistic rate hikes, and Wall Street seemed to be reacting appropriately… and rationally. It is a volatile world we live in today. It almost makes the Pandemic appear insignificant.

It is only 20 days to Valentine’s Day! I thought it better to move on and focus on great big red happy hearts instead of financial and confrontational turmoil. Yes, my friends in Tidsville, love is always there neath the greyest of skies. We can count on that. So, I’m going out today to buy some doilies and red construction paper, and Lepage’s glue.

If more of ourselves and our children l viewed education as enlightening rather than learning drudgery, then I would expect that the world would be a place more at ease with itself.

Nitpicking is like hoarding junk in the back of your mind.

The Question:

What are the ten largest countries by area in the world?

The Headlines:

--Stock Markets Open In Sewer; Investors On Edge Over World Conflict Tension, Awaiting Fed Policy Meeting; Stocks Stay Buried At Late Morning.

--US Troops Put O “High Alert” As Russia Orders More Drills; Putin Has Everybody Guessing.

--NY SC Nixes Mask Mandate.

I think that everybody should take a course on simplified physics so that we have a better understanding of how things work, a more acute appreciation for the creativity of innovators. Too many people don’t see the intricacies inherent in daily routines.

Yesterday I wrote a little news item about China flying some jets near Taiwan. Whoops, that was a bit of an understatement. They actually launched an armada of 39 jets towards Taiwan. And, it wasn’t a celebration of their “Year of the Tiger” in honor of Claire Chennault and his Flying Tigers. It was, “Hello Taiwan, Remember Hong Kong.

The news is frightful this morning, but yesterday which was quite disheartening at the start found the stock market making a 1200-point turn-around in less of an hour. Often the depth of despair is but a small moment in time.

Too many people spend too much time worrying about little things that they alone notice.

A woman here in RI, Nicole Alexander-Scott just resigned from her position as Director Of RI Department of Health. She was te face of the Pandemic daily briefings. Her salary was $144K/yr. After resigning she was hired by the same state as a consultant at $46K per month to guide her old RI Health Department because it no longer had a director. Say what? Talk about inflation with no value added!

Just one more example of pandemic giveaways leading to senseless spending.

The cosmetic’s industry makes billions off of nitpickers. Faces are beautiful.

The big news in education today is that you no longer need to use a #2 pencil to take a SAT exam. God bless our US Department of Education,

Here’s how fragile the RI economy is -- Candidates for office are saying we have to eliminate the state ban on “Happy Hours” to kick start our economy. Have you seen "Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee" lately?

Without nitpickers we could have three-day work weeks.

UK PM Boris Johnson is now under investigation for Ten Downing Street parties that may have violated Covid rules. Let’s hope Boris doesn’t view go to war with Russia over the Ukraine as a means to divert attention and make him appear more important.

The Answer:

By a wide margin Russia is the largest in Total area at 17,098,242KM. Canada is next at 9,984,670 just nipping China at 9,706,961. China nudges ahead of Canada in total “Land” area. The US is pretty close at #3 position with 9,372,610, and we are also ahead of Canada in “Land” area. The rest are Brazil, Australia, India, Argentina, Kazakhstan, Algeria and DR Congo.

Committees is the nirvana for nitpickers.
