Rockin' and Waltzin':
Maybe it is just me but I hold that music is one of the better prescriptions for contentment and happiness, drawing out the best from the depth of human emotions. Those of being alive and feeling loved; vanishing into the pure serenity of a soft melody.
Speaking of emotions, the Dems will be using the Jan Sixth celebrations to draw out every bit of possible anger against Repubs. It is about the only thing left I the party’s bag of political tricks. I don’t believe there is rational person in America who believes that the assault on the capital was anything but an insane overreaction, that more than anything dramatized the extent of the divide in the country. There have been many insane overreactions buy the left across the country lately, but they haven’t been directly against US capitol city institutions. Just other institutions that are part of our nation’s fabric; our foundations of trust and unity.
The Question:

Song title of yore that would be Woked out of existence today: “A Whiter Shade of Pale”.
History Repeats itself, Department:
I just happened to be reading the July 20 1905 edition of the Standard Union Newspaper (Brooklyn NY) when I saw this headline; “Houseboats Roil Waters of Sheepshead Bay and Citizens”. It is the same headline that I am now seeing here today about Newport harbor houseboats. It really doesn’t mean that much except to say. that despite all of tee advances in medicine and technology and human psychological understanding, people still remain pretty much the same.
Another headline in that paper was, “John Strong Fractures Shoulder Falling Over Tin Can.” Yikes.
I must not have much to say today if I have to go back to 1905 to find news.
Music can be frenetic and destructive; It can infect the mind and the senses ad judgment.
Retired people who have had to create and grow their own pensions are penalized by their own government for looking too wealthy, especially when they sell an asset to raise cash. Yet people who work for the government with largest pensions that are regularly increased each year, with no concerns about losing it all, are far wealthier than a self-pensioner out there with the wolves. Its really a matter of who is keeping your bo ks.
I was on one big Vivaldi kick a decade or so ago. I have plenty of his music, so maybe I should get back into it so it doesn’t go to waste. But, more important, maybe I’ll discover something new. I have found that about music. Your ability to achieve a new kind of enlightenment by hearing something more acutely grows with time. I hope so. Vivaldi could be a little tedious after a while. Nice, but tedious.
Today is National Braille Day, as opposed to National Sign Language Day.
Have you noticed how politicians make a big deal of signing their species and press conferences for the deaf? I know, the blind ca hear, but can they see the charts? But what are they doing for those how need braille?
The Washington Football Team has announced that they will make their new name official on Feb 2. The good ole’ Skins have provided a list of mediocre names, at least from my point of view. Much like the Guardians to replace the storied Indians. How about the Washington Snafus? Or if they want to stay close eot the original, The Washington Red Tapes.
The Answer:
Tom Hanks is number one. Playing Forest Gump will get you there. Fox, Alan Rickman, Patrick Stewart and at #10, Duayne Josh. Prices Diana was number 11. The rest to #25 are #12 Liam Neeson, Audrey Hepburn, Robin Williams, Gary Sinise, Julie Andrews, Anthony Hopkins, Ian McKellem, Hugh Jackman, Denzel Washington, Sadra Bullock, Neil Armstrong, Chris M Hemsworth, Helen Mirren and at #25, Tom Selleck. Some other notables are Carol Burnett at #32, Alan Trebek at 49 and the great John Wayne way down at #50. Doctor Suess is # 61 and Ronald Reagan is only #64. The bottom five in this list of 150 are Lee Greenwood, Jon Voight, Ben Stiller, George Takei and at #150, Jon Stewart.
One of my all-time favored tunes was “Whiter Shade of Pale.” Below is a particularly pleasant version of the Proco Harem hit, this time played live at a festival in Denmark. WSoP was a very emotional piece of music in its time. I read some of the comments of those who watched this video, and this one may have said it best about the profound effects of the music: “I’m a 67-year-old man; 2:46 am. Can't sleep looking at my beautiful wife. She’s been battling breast cancer. I broke down, tears came flooding to my eyes. You see this is our song. 43 years with my soulmate.”
