Rarely on the surface.

Today's Tids Issue 5,238

Dream and Do It:

Let the negotiations begin in earnest. Russians gave Brittany 9 years so they would have leverage in the negotiates for her release and hopefully that of Paul Whelen. That's the way it works.

A great friend sent me this poster yesterday with the line: “Life is painting without an eraser.” I think it says a lot.

China is a big foe with carefully planned growth and economic objectives. Russia is Putin. Period. Which one makes you feel more comfortable.

It seems to me that the new baseball GM statisticians have not figured out how to incorporate “Passion for the Game” into the algorithms. Fans go to games to feel the emotions and watch their heroes, not to wonder where the guys on the field game from overnight.

An AARP Card only thickens my wallet. I have no idea at all when I would ever use it. So, I have a stack of them in my drawer.

The Question:

Where was the first traffic light in T the USA?

The Headlines:

Yesterday I tripped over a sign that said: “Caution: Wet Floor.” I have to stop dreaming

Maybe I should sue them for not having a sign warning there is a  Caution wet floor sign ahead. I could probably win.

When will Americans learn that other countries have their own rules, and despite that they could be completely foreign to almost any touring American but must be obeyed.

A lot of inflation despite all the cool analysts' charts comes from people just spending too much money without questioning the costs. It all started with one person saying, “I have to raise my pries because of inflation.

Competitive spending is a big contribution to higher prices. Weddings come to mind as a place where people overspend for something that could eb done beautifully for much less. Love is the key ingredient of a great wedding, not the uniqueness of the food and view.

There is more and more talk of a third party emerging in the USA. It is mainly because of the current dissatisfaction of possible lackluster candidates for both of the two main parties. People continue to look for an Unbiased Intelligent Leader. But the UIL’s are too smart to allow themselves to be exposed to the guttural sniping in today's divisive political world.

The strong jobs report is easing recession talk. The Dems will jump all over this to lower the prospects of Repubs taking over Congress. The Dems aren’t laying down and the Repubs had better wake up.

After spending $100 Million to make the HBO movie Batgirl, Warner Brothers will shelve it because nobody likes it. For a hundred mil you’d think someone could make something people would like. They are going to trash it write it off for tax purposes. With the soon to be passed so-called “anti-inflation bill” that raises taxes on wealthier Americans and Corporations, maybe more companies will invest in products sure to fail for tax write-off purposes.

The Trump candidate beat the Pence candidate in the Arizona Repub primary for Governor. But I still think Trump was deplorable in what did to his VP.

The Answer:

The first traffic signal in American was on the corner of Euclid and 105th Street in Cleveland Ohio. I always think that people who know nothing give Cleveland a bad rap. so once again the editors of The Tids come out for the underappreciated. the first traffic island was put into use in San Fran California, in 1907; left-hand drive became standard in American cars in 1908; the first center painted dividing line appeared in 1911, in Michigan; and the first “No Left Turn” sign would debut in Buffalo, NY, in 1916. The first signal was based on a design by James Hoge, who received U.S. patent 1,251,666 for his “Municipal Traffic Control System” The Motorist, published by the Cleveland Automobile Club in August 1914: “This system is, perhaps, destined to revolutionize the handling of traffic in congested city streets and should be seriously considered by traffic committees for general adoption.”

Every invention over the years that seemed to greatly contribute to, or even revolutionize a segment of society was hailed as genius of the times. It’s not about the whiz-bangary of the invention but of the inspiration, perseverance and courage of the person who saw something and made it work.

Have a Great Weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
